I suspect they are their own species, since the designs and behaviour are very different, and they usually keep that stuff the same. Was it really necessary to remove their plasters? Watching Mario 64 was how I get into this series, and I thought that was what made them so iconic and comedic. Edit: Seeing the plaster re-appear here at 16:00 made me giddy with nostalgia, so I hope it becomes a mainstay soon! Edit 2: Nevermind, it's been erased from history again, but I geuss these Tiki things are cool. Maybe the plasters will re-surface in later years?
Super Mario Odyssey’s one is NOT a Whomp, it’s called a Stairface Ogre (or something like that), it was a completely new enemy (mabye it DOES look a bit like a Whomp though)

How are in some games Whomps tend to be bigger than Thwomps, especially when Thwomps are the same height as the player? The only game that I know that where Thwomps are bigger than Whomps is Super Mario 64 DS. Proof:Action Replay mod where you can play as a normal Whomp, and go up to a Thwomp on Whomp’s Fortress, you will see that Thwomps are slightly bigger than Whomps. But in New Super Mario Bros. 2, normal Whomps are the same size as normal Thwomps, same with their bigger counterparts.
Whomps are better in New Super Mario Bros. 2 because normal Whomps are now the same size as normal Thwomps which are now both the same height as Mario, and Big Whomps are the same size as Big Thwomps.(Unlike in the first New Super Mario Bros. where normal Whomps were about the size of Big Whomps while normal Thwomps are the same height as Mario). Also in New Super Mario Bros. 2, there are more Whomps than in the first game, and are able to move around more.
Thwomps and Whomps are different, btw, even though their names are almost similar. Thwomps has no limbs, and has spikes (or not) around them. They only charge in one direction (mostly downwards). They have no weakness and are indestructible, until Super Mario Maker changes that. Whomps has limbs and faceplants their face (or "body") onto enemies as an attack. Their weakness is their rear and Ground Pound usually defeats them.
I love that you not only included every whomp, but every whomp variant including the Stairface Ogre which are pretty much the Whomps of Super Mario Odyssey. I only got one note and one note ONLY. You forgot Mario Party 8 that game had Whomps too. That’s all. No BD (big deal).
I wish you can make a overwatch videos like all ultimate moves, all cinematic shorts and/or anything but if you don't want to or not interested it's fine😊
