She's the embodiment of the perfect the point guard. The WNBA should be ashamed of itself. Giving Ionescu player of the week, the week that Clark broke the all-time assist record and had better stats in every category (even turnovers) is one of many examples that are beyond the pale.

Statistically, Caitlin Clark is the best player in the WNBA. Using ESPN's 6 statistical catagories, she's the only one in the league that ranks in the top 20 in all six catagories. When you add her ranking in each category, then divide by 6 (for each stat catagory) , she's #1, Steward is #2, Wilson is #3. Angel Reese isn't in the top 30.

I've been watching a lot of her ankle breakers and those moves are just sick. What she does is this: She starts driving right, goes around the back driving then left and stops, and crosses through her legs with her left hand to her right hand. Once she has it in her right hand, she drives right toward the hoop for a lay-up with the defender laying on the ground.

Finally, her passes. The English she puts on the behind the back passes and on many of those dimes down low as well is amazing. You gotta watch closely to spot them but she is truly a gem.

I've been watching some of those You Tube shorts of CC passing for assists. I like the shorts because you can study them over and over to pick out all the smallest details. They just blow my mind. She's not even LOOKING at the player she's passing to, and the ball is placed RIGHT INTO THEIR HANDS. Oh sometimes they might have to reach for it, but still. The short that's titled Caitlin being guarded by Kelsey in the all star game is especially cool because CC makes an assist through a crowd of other players, and just before the short ends (after the score) one of her own players turns and just stares at CC with a "How the HELL did you do that?" look on her face. Totally flabbergasted. It's priceless. I understand that the don't look, or don't look-behind the back passes make it next to impossible to know when and to who she's passing to, but it's amazing that they're so spot on target. She might just as well have her EYES CLOSED

She's also putting spin on the them so they twist when they hit the floor. In that way she can pass to players that are not even open. It's incredible.
CC knows that, like an NFL quarterback, the defenders follow her eyes. The defenders, if she is gonna pull up and shoot,continue to basket or pass the ball. Most defenders were only having 1 or2 possible plays ,but if there's 1 to 3 possible things to defend against you best get to the film room if you're going against CC.
That was a great breakdown of results. I still don’t understand what the WNBA expects to get out of mistreatment of there golden goose?
This is a little off topic but I was watching pre season fever vs wings (I wanted to see Grace Berger) and Cheryl Swoops was one of the commentaries. In the 3rd quarter at the 9 min. mark she says, how fast pace the game is in the WNBA and how different it is than playing in the big 10. And how that's something Caitlin will have to get use to.
Clearly, Cheryl Swoops never watched a single Iowa game. Iowa plays a fast pace game, and Cheryl Swoops has obviously had a dislike of CC from the get go. Some people will always be trying to tear down others.

@tabularasa9554 I will always remember how great Swoopes was. I went to the 1993 Final Four after Iowa beat Tennessee in the Elite Eight. We lost to Ohio State in the Semifinal game (although I still contend that Ohio St. tackled our point guard in the final seconds).😂 Anyway, Sheryl Swoopes scored 47 points in the National Championship game. She was absolutely incredible in that game, and she continued to play well during most of her wnba career. That being said, her absolute refusal to show Caitlin the respect that she deserves does cause me to think less of Swoopes. I still hold out some slim hope that she will eventually realize how terribly wrong she has been (I won't hold my breath, though).

For the last 14 games, if Clark could just sink 2-3 more 3 pointers per game, keep up her current assist pace (around 12ish), and Fever sneak into the 5th or 6th slot…Cailtin will get some top 3 MVP votes.

You’d think logic, empirical evidence, and how fun she is to watch - would get people to chill on the hate, but that’s expecting too much of people.
Hopefully, she continues to have fun doing what she loves, continues to help the league through her skills, and continues to inspire all the kids and fans who love to watch her play.
I have a few thoughts. One is I wonder what their record would be if sides knew how to coach. I do admit Clark had some growing pains but that doesn’t take away from her improvements and where she is headed. Once Clark’s 3 point shooting is back she is going to be a monster. She just needs to work on her turnovers and keep practicing on her drives and assists. She’s getting to be so good at that.
she is probably the best ever already and she is only half way through her rookie year. Most of her growing pains is because teams entire game plans have been to stop Caitlin Clark. She has had to figure out how to navigate a game where the entire other team is literally trying to stop just her.
Synergy Stats: She was blitzed on ball 77 more times than any other TEAM in the league. That would account for some of her turnovers. I believe the other teams were doing that because Sides was running plays where Clark had no outlet pass. Her team is learning how to catch those passes. When they mishandle the pass, she gets the turnover awarded to her. She's playing a high speed high wire act. I get 10 assists that's 20 points for my team. I commit 6 turnovers and you convert on 3 that's 6 points for you.
That’s what I’ve been saying…she’s getting full court pressed and double teamed. Entire team defenses are focused on stopping HER. No other player in the league has to deal with that every night.
I just saw an incredible stat. CC has had 109 points and 66 assists in her last 5 games, nobody in history has ever achieved that. If you lower it to 90 and 50, it's only happened four times, three of those were Caitlin Clark.
I think Aja Wilson is amazing and is the best player in the league right now but I don’t understand how every single person talks about how she’s MVP already. With half the games left it’s crazy to anoint her now.

I don't like the "MVP" award title. I think it should be called the "Best Player" award.
To me, it's obvious that Wilson is the best player.

The difference between Clark and Aja's game is that, Aja is never double team, blitz so she can shoot easily and it help that she's taller.

I am glad you have brought up how the MVP award is supposed to work. I have mentioned this myself so many times. Its supposed to be the player that has helped the team they play on do much better. Now it seems it's just the highest scorer or best player on a stacked team. The MVP has lost its stature. This takes away from the athletes that work hard to make a young team better and be awarded for the effort.

Everyone needs to act like an adult. I'm in my 70's and remember playing team sports. We always had athletes that excelled more than others. Because we were young coaches would push us to do our best. They would work to bring out the best in all of us. There will always be exceptions to the rule where there will be some that are gifted, but that doesn't mean you don't work at getting better. I don't know CC to say she's a prodigy, but I know about her work ethic and her desire to win. All you have to do is to look at what she accomplished at Iowa. She worked hard at her game and thru encouragement and getting her teammates involved they accomplished what no one thought was possible (except for Iowa).

With this massive month break for CC, she will explode statistically, especially her shooting percentage and long-range 3 point daggers. When Caitlin Clark's legs are fresh, she is unstoppable. CC has an entire year with probably the most minutes of all WNBA players as a super fast break point guard. This is the ultimate reason her shooting percentage is significantly lower than her career average. Also, CC is brutally hit & and smothered more than any player in the league. She has a horrible coach who has negatively impacted CC & her teammates' overall potential. When you factor in all of this, it is phenomenal what she has done statistically & how she has elevated her teammates' performance level! CC is the new Superwoman of America. Unseen magic will be unveiled very soon by this phenomenon. We have already got glimpes of this throughout the season.

Technically, most *valuable* to the league, there is no one in any conversation next to CC. She stands alone. But MVP is based on stats, contribution to wins, and other things only related to actual play on the court . . . not impact off the court. A'ja is #1 in points, #1 in blocks, #2 in rebounds, and #3 in steals. CC is #1 in assists, but doesn't crack the top five in any of the other top four stat categories used to determine double doubles, triple doubles, etc. CC slam dunk ROY, A'ja Wilson slam dunk MVP . . . CC slam dunk greatest positive impact on the league, ever!
I keep wondering what the Fever's record would be like if they were coached by Cheryl Miller. Christie Sides seems very personable, but Fever not having a winning record for a while says a lot. Caitlyn respects all her peers and not getting MVP will just make her work harder to improve :).

I believe it was 66 in that game (four assists on three pointers) and she leads the league in combined points (scored+ assisted).

Yea, there is no way CC gets MVP any time soon. The reality it has very little to do with the game of basketball. Nothing in the world of women is simple. So the MVP candidate is so much more complicated than how well they play.
The great players inspire the rest of there team, and so they step up their game.

CC at this point is not the most valuable to her team that would be KM she scores above 20 almost every game. Without KM or AB fever not winning much. Fever can win games with or without CC.
