Adam was a great AFL player I had the pleasure of being able to see. More importantly he's an articulate and passionate leader in the indigenous community and I genuinely wish him nothing but success in the future.
He should be in hall of famembruh
Couldn't be happier for Goodes, the AFL failed him and essentially ruined the late part of his career.
And now they want to use him as promotion.
Exactly. They didn't even apologise until 2019. Disgraceful.
Every football loving person knows Adam Goodes was an out and out champion of the game, Adam has nothing more to prove to anyone. He doesn't need recognition in the HOF to prove how good he was as a player, his principles are more important.

Robbo is right about the current AFL bosses.
Spot on. As time goes on they will be seen as the morally deficient cowards they were. Time tells. It doesnt heal.
Look I love Adam goodes and he was an absolute gun and yes he has every right to tell the AFL to jump of a cliff as he was treated like a second class citizen but at the end of the day he as a man must find solace before it destroys him let's hope he is doing well lots of love and respect to Adam and his family.
Maybe he just doesn't want to. Not about any extreme emotion.
The AFL is like any other organisation: they'll say a lot of the right things but will choose what is most expedient behind the scenes. He doesn't feel like being a party to an advertisement for the game.
We all he's one of the greats: two Brownlows and two premierships. He doesn't need further accolades to validate his worth as a player. This was more important for their image than for his.
I booed Adam Goodes I was even there that night when the young girl made a racist comment. There were fans who were calling him much worse and way more racist. He was dominating that night and he pretty much won the game himself against the pies. I had no time for him till I watched the documentary and I learnt I was wrong. You want to talk about players who were racially abused on and off field, let’s talk Robert Muir & Nicky Winmar. Adam Goodes you where a sensational player but the way you handled yourself when getting booed, it wasn’t because you are an aboriginal it was because you where damn good, it also put you off but mostly the way carried on about it. Heaps of players over the years have been booed who are champions of the game including Pendlebury on ANZAC Day does that mean it was racism then NO.
When anyone is getting racially abused whether verbal or objects such as bananas that’s 100% not on but booing has been going on since before any of us alive today where born.

Nothings changed, look at the news about Hawthorn in the last few days, young Aboriginal players enduring the same bigotry and racism, appalling, in fact its shameful.
I’m a new AFL from the uk. Why didn’t he want any part of footy after retirement?
Unfortunately Ethan, Adam Goodes was horribly treated, with racial vindication’s for the last four years of his footy career for standing up for himself when a young girl called him an ape.
Many people treated terribly and journalists such as Andrew Bolt were vicious towards him. Many crowds started booing him, but I bet many people didn’t really have an excuse for it. I particularly remember when my own team WC fans were booing Goodes, an shameful day for our club.
If you can, I would recommend you watch the documentary The Final Quarter to get a more educated opinion on this.
He was a bloody big sook who had a cry when people didn't fall for his BS. Don't get me wrong, he was a fabulous player and I really enjoyed watching him play. Unfortunately, he let the racial debate creep into his psyche. Nicky Winmar copped plenty too, but he handled it with class and remains one of my favourite aboriginal players even today. Adam Goodes should've accepted the honour of being inducted into the hall of fame. It's a shame that a few rotten eggs have corrupted his legacy and his connection with the AFL. I think most people would agree that they loved watching him play and we want to celebrate it! Yes, there has been wrong doing to Adam by the AFL failing to act sooner on the racism toward him and others...But to decline this privilege is causing further division and it really doesn't help our community move forward. It's really important for our future generations to believe that we can live and function together. This clearly sends the opposite message. The media will never speak their true opinion on this matter either out of fear of repercussions on the status que now and will just respectfully accept his decision.
Gillian McLachlan has already taken steps to diversify the game by driving the AFLW into the spotlight and backing indigenous players like Eddie Betts who have also been racially abused. Hopefully he can move on and help the community rather then hinder it. Yes those scars might not heal completely but he is removing the possibility of something far greater then an individuals struggle...
Read Mathematics comment to see why he was booed. Nothing to do with racism.

good.
I'm sorry the game of football was good to Adam and he made a living off the public....
The majority of his career the public treated him well and with respect..... but in life you always get judged on the 1 or 2 bad things you do.....
In closing Adam Goodes was and is a superstar and it's sad he feels the way he does because if you did a survey 99% of people respect him but again nothing like the minorities destroying it for all.
Obviously goodes feels the few jeers far outweigh the years of cheers..I bet I'm not the only one who has little sympathy for him
Just say you're racist.
oh well....
Shame they bood him, every body feels emotional pain..it must b hard on him..nothing is worse than excruciating physical pain..
You can be a positive leader and do positive things or do what Adam goods does!
In my mind Adam Goodes tarnished his own reputation at the end of his career. I liked him for the first three quarters of his career but that changed due to a number of factors.
Adam Goodes on the football field did a lot of dogs acts that he never had to pay for. He never got rubbed out for games for the things he did on the football field. I don't like Joel Selwood for the same thing. I see Joel Selwood do dogs acts that the commentators gloss over as being "Tough" whereas if it was someone else doing half the things he does, they would be trying to get them suspended. So part of my not liking these two players is they got away with dogs acts that other players don't get away with. So on those grounds, it really isn't so much Adam Goodes' fault.
However other things Goodes has done on the football field don't sit well with me. I am in no way a Carlton Fan, but there was that game where Sydney are winning by around 70 points halfway through the game against Carlton. Sydney is playing a home game, so the ground is full of Sydney supporters. Adam Goodes celebrates a goal and decides to direct his war dance at the few Carlton supporters at the ground. If he wanted to do a war dance in good taste, why not direct it at his team mates, or at the other 99% of the crowd that are Sydney supporters at the game? Again he had the right to do what he did, but that also gives us the right to not like him for doing that. Any other player doing something similar to opposition fans would at the very least get fines for those actions.
Then there was the time where the young girl called him something she shouldn't have, and he reacted by pointing her out and going to the change rooms making a huge focus on the girl. This in itself seems horrible and many will call what he did noble. I am not so sure it was noble. What people forget to mention is the CONTEXT of that whole week that led to this game.
That week was the indigenous round. The theme around that week was memorising what a great impact Nicky Winmar's courageous act showed (we all know the iconic picture of Winmar pointing to his skin colour that started the movement). There was a lot of talk that week about the huge significance of Winmar's actions. Adam Goodes even posed in front of the cameras during the week, in the same pose Winmar had done all those years ago.
Then in that same week came the game where the young girl called Adam Goodes something she shouldn't have. Goodes then points her out and goes to the change rooms. Now the ramifications could have been great here. First it was a young girl. That young girl ended up getting harassed on social media from this. Imagine she suicided over this? Once recognizing it was not an adult that said this to Goodes, a better way to handle the matter would have been to just bring it up in the media after the game highlighting that we all still have a lot to learn and need education. This would have been if he was really trying to help the girl or society in general.
However I believe given the buildup to the week that Adam Goodes wanted his "Nicky Winmar" moment. He wanted a moment that future generations would look up to.
Like all of us, Adam Goodes is not a perfect person and makes mistakes. However actions such as these are ones that will not make the public like you. To make matters worse, people then call others racist because they don't like one player and this makes things much worse.
So it was things such as these which made me and I am sure a lot of people not like Adam Goodes. I don't feel that way about any other Aboriginal AFL player. My favourite player growing up was Maurice Rioli, and he was the only player I ever had a poster in my room of. I enjoy watching the past and present Aboriginal players of all teams, and like them all, and how they handle themselves on and off the field. So does that make me or any other football fan a racist for not liking Adam Goodes?
fair enough
you made some good comment, but there was some incredible stupidity in your post as well
Got to be one of the dumbest and most ignorant comments I've ever heard
He was a great players, but the boos werent racist. They were because of how he acted, not his skin colour.

The offer should never be made again to him.WE are offended.
Goodes was an absolute elite player, deserving winner of the Brownlow medal, all his other game achievements and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. However, to say it was "partly racial based" is just flat out media pish posh. Everyone must tow the liberal line and race must be a reason for every slight and misdeed. There were 77 Aboriginal players in the AFL at the time (possibly a few more non causation - i best not say black) and Goodes was the only one being booed consistently. If the crowds were so racist why was Goodes, a highly decorated 300+ game legend with 2 Brownlow medals the only one targeted?
I'd suggest people who think what happened was racist should look deep inside and see if they're not hiding something they wish to recompense.
Maybe 2020 should be the way the AFL takes the game forward... No crowds, no feeling, no emotion and of course no hurt feelings.

I'm not surprised he was booed, I never thought it was a racist booing, but just booing a champion opposition player who provoked supporters (especially when he did that dance - probably better suited to ceremony, not celebrating a goal at opposition supporters). Plenty of good players copped it regardless of colour. There were too many boos for them all to be racist, I'm just taking a positive view that not that many ppl have those kind of backward views.

Goodes wasnt booed out of the game. He was basically finished in 2014 as a player, but was one of our better players in the catastrophic 2014 grand final and got another year. That led to Tim Membrey leaving for more opportunities (much to the chagrin of some swans fans currently)
Secondly, I attended almost every VIC swans game for Adam's entire career, including watching him in the reserves in 98 (or 99) at Arden street and while he got booed later in his career so did a lot of our good players. Barry Hall would get booed every time he touched the ball. Franklin gets booed everytime he touches it. I am sure Ablett jnr would get booed. Dangerfield gets booed all the time.
