  • Yet another Chinese minority language version that I couldn't find anywhere on RUclips. Interestingly, this language is written with the Latin alphabet, though they do have an ancient Chinese-based script for their language called Sawndip that is used in unofficial contexts. The flag is the unofficial flag of the Zhuang People. The symbol is a that of Mo, the religion of the Zhuang People.

word by word translation of the first sentence
hwnj: to rise, to go up
    daeuj: to come
    gyoengq: a group of
    hoiq: slave
souh: to inflict, this word is a borrowing from Chinese 受
    nit: cold
deng: a marker of passive voice, like "be" in the "be done" structure
iek: to be hungry, to starve
    raeuz: we, us
By the way, I am a Han Chinese and I don't speak the Zhuang language. I look these words up in a Zhuang-Chinese-English trilingual dictionary. I find the Zhuang language a very interesting tongue indeed.

The Latin alphabet looks unwieldy on Zhuang. Why couldn't they adopt something like other Tai-Kadai languages? Or if you need the Latin alphabet, just use diacritics to mark tones. But even then it's still unwieldy. Just.. get a writing system tailored for it. But this is a problem with numerous non-European languages. I'm aware Sawndip exists but it is rarely used so..

    • @Norarit-Sae

From the music, as a Thai person, only some common words share the same roots.
      For example: blood (lwed - เลือด), minds (gyae - ใจ), old (gaeuz - เก่า), brothers (beixnuengx - พี่น้อง), eat (gwn - กิน), snake (ngwz - งู), children (lwglan - ลูกหลาน), our (raeuz - เรา)
Zhuang has borrowed many words from Chinese Han.
Thai / Lao has borrowed many words from Pali-Sanskrit from India, Old Khmer.
So, there are too much difference to understand.

@@GyacoYu I don't think originally Wenzhou Wu was a Sinitic language. It was mostly likely a proto-Tai-Kadai language. Chinese linguists specialized in Wu vernaculars have demonstrated numerous examples as to why should Wu Chinese vernaculars be a mixture between an Old Chinese dialect and a variety of proto-Tai-Kadai, one of which is the word for polemo in Wenzhou pronounced as /pʰɑʊ/. The word has no character to write down. Some people use characters for bladder or sack to write the word but that makes no sense. In Kam language that's used to be spoken in Zhejiang, polemo is called pa:u2; Wuming Zhuang: puk8; Longzhou Zhuang: puk8; Bo'ai Zhuang: puk8; Mak: puk8; Maonan: pok8. That's one of the most often cited examples. Similarly, Li Hui, a geneticist and anthropologist in Fudan university of Shanghai, used to compile a long list of Maqiao Wu Chinese words which he believes to be originated from Tai-Kadai languages loca.fudan.edu.cn/lh/Doc/D02.pdf
