    I took just a little too much relief off mine so I'll relax the truss rod just a touch. It's worth getting it right, this guitar is good enough to gig, plugged in. The lack of bass is no bad thing, especially if you are playing with a harpist. Thanks for the demo.

    Hey, Ron. Didn't know you had a RUclips channel - I'm an MA but flew quite a few dogger missions with you and have swapped some FB comments with you. I took up guitar in my fifties, and this year started playing for worship at a Bible study group with Ukrainian refugees. I picked up an Epiphone Hummingbird EC Studio Limited Edition quite similar to the one you're working on here. Mine is tobacco sunburst and has a cutaway below the neck and a Fishman Piezo pickup. The action was very nicely set up out of the box, not nearly as high as yours, and I was pleased to see it's made in Indonesia, not China. I really only started studying guitar seriously in the last year - my goal for this year is to transition from beginner to intermediate player. Progress is slow but it's fun and playing worship songs for the Ukrainian Bible study is rewarding, though it has taken a while for me to be able to play and sing in Russian simultaneously. Anyhow I enjoyed watching you set up the action on your Epi Hummingbird. All the best - will drop a comment on FB from time to time. May you and yours be safe, healthy, and blessed.

    The truss rod is not for lowering the action, but to adjust the neck relief!!!!!

      Adjusting neck relief can either raise or lower your action. You'd know that if you've ever adjusted one.

    Nice review Ron, thanks. What string manufacturer and gauge did you use? Also, what type of amp you using? The vibrato sounded awesome. Thanks

      Thanks Tim. The strings are Elixir Nanoweb 12-53 and the amp is a Line 6 Spider IV modeling amp with a foot pedal to change channels on the amp.

      Very cool! It’s easy enough to do, though I don’t claim to be a luthier, I figure if it’s my guitar I can mess with it 😂

      How far down did you have to sand it?

      @@ronward-strangemachine Hello Ron just a little bit not much I also sanded my Yamaha acoustic guitar bridge went to far on that one started buzzing on frets used a paper clip under bridge to get it back taller 🤟🤠🤟

    Why did you not replace with bone?????

    It’s a saddle, not a bridge. The bridge is the wooden piece the saddle fits into…

  • @thirdgearband
    @thirdgearband 10 месяцев назад +1

    It’s a plastic saddle that fits into the wooden bridge. These Chinese guitars will never compare to a U.S. Martin, Gibson, Taylor, and so forth as they have no bottom end. They also do not have any resale value if you decide to sell and upgrade. FYI

      At a small fraction of the price of those U.S. made guitars you would not expect them to sound as good. The Indonesian Epiphone IBG boxes might surprise you though.

    I wonder if you have warped the neck with you adjusting the truss rod . What you have done seems dangerous to me .

      Still plays very well, but I admit I am not a luthier

      Adjusting the truss rod a full turn won't warp the neck lol. You'd have to do something extreme to damage the neck.
