You may want to opt for more heat free methods of styling like dampening the hair and setting it on a flexi-rod. Direct heat can often strip certain fashion colors
I used to flat iron my hair at 450°. It’s really thick and curly but still it didn’t need that. My hair was frizzy and broken off. So please don’t use anything that hot.
I’ve been a tomboy my whole life and am starting to get in touch with my “feminine” side. I‘ve been learning how to doll myself up with makeup and hair, but curling/straightening hair has totally scared me the most. This video was so helpful, I’ll definitely be getting those gloves after this! Thank you!
Same. I have been natural for 15 years with NO heat at all. Back in high school I had a relaxer and went to salon each week. Am so scared of these heat tools, but want to start doing straight hair for winter. I need all the info I can get to prevent damage. Linwood is a good teacher thoughtful. I am gonna watch some Glam Twins vids too.
Finally. Finally! I learned to curl my hair *properly* with a wand exactly like yours. I've had it for five years and kept getting Shirley Temple curls. I wanted beach waves. I finally learned out to do it. You have such a clear, easy to understand teaching style. Ty!
The same here!!! I’m so glad I stumbled upon this video! I’ve had this same Babyliss curling wand for years and could never get my curls right, I was only getting those Shirley Temple ones!
This might sound a bit odd, but I'm very new to using a curling wand, and I'm having a lot of trouble sectioning my hair. So I curl one piece, and it get's lost in all the other uncurled pieces, and It ends up being a big mess. Any tips on how to just section my hair so that it is easier to manage? I tried just keeping one side tied back, doing a half up half down, just going in blind, but it always ends up messy and I loose my curls I've already done. Also, I have long hair (which isn't extremely thick). Sorry this is such a weird question, I know it might seem simple but I really am a mess!
I would say to put it in as many sections as necessary. For some clients I use 5-6 clips and I section small rows with a small duckbill clip as well. It helps keep everything organized so it’s not all tangled up.
My daughter watches tutorials all the time, and they drive me nuts. YOU ARE AWESOME! You're not over the top. You explain why you're doing what you're doing. I dig, man! Thank you!
Didn't know the tip about different types of hair vs heat, very good to know. My sister left her curling wand at my house, I was about to just jump into using it and turn that bitch allll the way up LOL. Glad I decided to RUclips and come across your video first lol.
Thank you for getting straight to the point! I learned everything I was looking for in a short amount of time. I'm going to a concert with a friend. It's going to be epic! Well, as epic as it can with two middle aged women! Thank you for your helpful advise🌻
You don’t even bake cookies at some of these temperatures 🤣 love it! Thank you so much for actually showing the difference between the curls! Now I know why they haven’t been coming out how I wanted!
i did my little sister's hair for homecoming tonight and this video saved the day for sure!! i was so proud of how they turned out, and she loved them. it took a few strands to get the hang of it, but once i did, they looked just like yours! thank you!!
Once again, I’ve learned a lot. Using the little stand portion to balance the curling wand while curling is an awesome tip. Thank you Linwood. Be blessed
Thank you! Yeah, doing that makes you less likely to burn the clients scalp. I’ve seen many students go wrong on that one! Lol My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
About to purchase my first wand I have no idea how to curl hair at all I'm willing to learn so I can do many different types of curls I'm tired of my same boring hairstyles so here I am
Amazing video GlamFam. I will be watching all your futures videos. However, I need help! At the link there are 2 sizes of wands. the small: 1" to ½" and the large: 1-¼" to ¾". What size of wand corresponds to this video?? thank you!!
my hair is really thick & just really long & evertime i try to curl my hair with a wand just like that one , it never came out to pretty curls until now .. thank you so much !❤️
So it's okay to spray hairspray on hair before curling? Never knew that! I thought it might damage the hair as it is a flammable substance. Might try this to see if it holds the curls longer. ♥️
I''ve had my "wand" for over a year and it's been sitting in my closet for over a year... Thank you so much for your video..I have very fine hair and by following your instructions I was able to get a beautiful wave☺️ Thank you, again💖
I went a Pivot Point school. We had those mannequins, they're great. My Vanessa came out of the box with so many naps I called her Sheneneh. Everyone called mine Sheneneh till the day I shaved her head. Her hair was so bad. Mine came out the box a mess and not even the teacher could explain it. Then I got my 2nd one and she was fine, no issues. I still have my ethnic one, she's never been cut, I plan on leaving her that way. My friend and I did do fun colors on her though. Sometimes Sally's runs a special where you can get the glove free with an iron. I got mine that way. Low and behold I burned myself with the glove on.
Oh wow! Did you burn the wrist where the glove stopped? I have a glove somewhere, but I don’t like working with it on, so I figure I’ll just deal with the burns and keep it moving! Lol I’m surprised they didn’t just replace your mannequin! That’s crazy!
Nope. I'm very accident prone. I have long natural nails. I didn't notice that my index finger nail had poked a hole in the tip and I burned my finger tip. That glove went straight to the trash. I'd just rather deal with the burns myself too. The only bonus to having that messed up mannequin was it taught me patience to work with knotted hair.
Hi, this video is 10 months old. I did see an updated video with some difficulties with RUclips. If you reamed your channel please let me know. Meanwhile, you and your family are in my prayers. I myself have been dealing with some difficulties also.
@@ChloeStarRail I'm not sure, one minute I saw a video of him explaining something going on but it was vague that's why I chose this video. I really don't know, the videos that I can see are all old videos. I don't know please don't take my opinion as true. That's why I am asking.

I would trust this guy to do whatever he wanted to my hair. Based on his presentation and professionalism you can tell hes a pro and turns whatever hes doing to gold.
Lol, when I seen you spray the working spray I had a flash back. It took me to the late 80s/early 90s. My friends would spray Aqua Net until it beaded on their hair and hit it with a blow dryer to form wings on the side of their head. I also remember the sizzle-frying sound when they curled their hair that was dripping wet with Aqua Net. Thankfully, you know what to hell your doing :)
LOL! Aquanet would hold your soul together! That is some of the hardest hairspray of all time! 😂😂 Aquanet, Rave, and Pump it up are all not to be played with! 🤣
Thank you for explaining the different hair types and heat settings. Also, how to wrap to get and beach wave VS a standard curl. Soooo helpful!! You are amazing.
NOW I understand why my beachy wave attempt looked like a Shirley Temple curl, LOL! Your tutorials are so helpful and well presented, I'd love to have you as a cosmetology teacher. Much Love from New Mexico USA!
Does those curling wands come with a glove? I have neurapathy as a result from chemo so my hands sometimes shake when I am doing hair. If not, could I buy the proper gloves at the haircare store?
I included a link to the gloves in the description box and the pinned comment. Unfortunately, most wands don’t come with the protective glove. Sometimes you can also find the exfoliating gloves at Ross and Burlington.
I learn so much more from you than I do any other female. A single one of your tutorials is more informative than all these other creators' tutorials combined.
Ok, I learned the temperatures 350 for thin, medium 380. how to make different curls. and 400 is way to hot. " got it ". I'm the beginner pupil. Thank you for the clip on your shirt.
Thank for this video . You explained the technique so well that I was able to understand. I get lost in my head that I end up making mistakes. Thank you again
So very glad you did not die, praise Jesus! I'm so glad you made this video cos I was about to request one in how to use a wand. Plus, your shirt is awesome and now my son wants one like it.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked the video! I included a link to the shirt in the description box and the pinned comment, I figured I’d get a lot of questions about it 😊
I'm so glad you didn't fall. 🤣. Love the shrit. This is so good that you have the break down on the temperatures, so many people think that they can use any heat tools at there max temps, I was one of them cause I was always told thay my hair held heat well, I have fine hair. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Such a pleasure dear! Girl if I had fallen this video would’ve been much more interesting! 😂 Thank you! Alison got me the shirt for my birthday! Yeah I see a lot of people using irons at the highest temp because they think it’s faster, meanwhile it’s burning their hair up!
Great tutorial! Quick question: can you use a styling mouse with the curling wand, or is it best to stick with the holding spray? I am looking for ways to repurpose what I already have instead of having to buy a product just for the few times that I use a curling wand 😄.
I got a Remington rod today. I found it at a thrift store for cheap lol and even though I have burned my fingers a few times it ACTUALLY curled my hair. Which is great because my hair don't want to ever hold them. Its like one side I'll get a few curls the rest just roll out. And I don't mess with it either. It comes out straight too. And I've used many different curling irons like with the clamp. So I'm happy that this rod actually does something.
omg I feel so dumb, I just got my 1st wand, had noooo idea what I was doing, turned out meh but not bad. THIS video is the key!! i can donit properly now! Thank you for sharing!
I'll tell you what I learned, Linwood. I learned that like me, you are also clumsy and accident prone. We must be twins too, LOL. That would make us triplets with Menaree! My hair is so fine, thin and fragile that I don't even bother with heat. Thanks for the tips tho, and glad you didn't die as well.
when I'm wrapping my hair to the iron, my hair just slides down, the iron can't hold my hair. I tried wrapping really tight too, but it just doesn't work. where am I doing wrong?
I know its only been like 4 years. But I was wondering since I'm scared of curling Irons is it ok to use a wand to get a Shirley Temple-ish curl? Because I might have to do that for a show that I might be in.
I have 2 questions. Do curling wands come with gloves most of the time ? And 1 more , if I keep messing up , how many times should I try to redo it before I burn all of my hair of and go bald ?
Is this wig you’re using a human hair or synthetic. I have trouble all the time trying to use a curling iron or curling rod and wind up having straight hair. I think you showed me how to finally figure it out. Would you suggest always using some type of a hairspray prior to curling?
Someone tell me why my 100.00 wand has no protecive tip, no heat setting, and no resting leg (i have to set it on my sink) i literally burned myself 4 times getting ready for church this morning)
My daughter asked for a curling rod for her birthday... I love your detailed instructions!!! She been in the Air Force for the last 6 years wearing her long, thick strawberry blond hair in a bun. She’s so excited about trying something new. T
Thank you so much for the video! I learned everything. How to hold, possible product to use, technique, & that I'm cut out for a flat iron - the best. My daughters had the wand sitting way back in the back of the closet & this was a spring clean find.
Here are the tools I used:
*Curling wand: amzn.to/2KxYZff
*Rusk hairspray: amzn.to/2Ky9sY0
*Mannequin (this is an alternative to the one I'm using, mine is more expensive and harder to find.) :amzn.to/2I8wG8L

I'm left handed and can curl my right side really good but the left not so much 😆😆
Common problem, a lot of times, the best thing for that is simply practice 😊
GlamFam thank you and I burned the left side of my face yesterday with the wand, had it 2 close but I put cocoa butter on it😊😊
Oh Lord honey! Be careful!
Same!
Same issue, except right hand,side.

You can utilize the mousse while blow drying the hair. That way it will help build hold in the hair. Just make sure you aren’t wand curling wet hair.

Linwood I love that shirt where did you find it? xxx
Thank you! Alison got it for me from Amazon, I included a link for it in the description box because I get compliments on it quite a bit 😊
Thank you I will take a look now xx
My pleasure dear!
That sounds great!
I got a Conair rod for $3.99 @ thrift store. it works beautiful
omg I feel so dumb, I just got my 1st wand, had noooo idea what I was doing, turned out meh but not bad. THIS video is the key!! i can donit properly now! Thank you for sharing!
You're looking so cool in Punjabi.👍
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
I have been waiting for a straight and to the point video on how to use these things thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks so much for watching!
I appreciate the information, I always ended up with Shirley temple curls I know what to do now!! Thank you!
I can see grey hairs on Vanessa! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol thank you boo! 😂 who knew this video would be so dangerous!? 🤣
Certainly not Nita!
😂😂
Best wand video on here thank you
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching!
when I'm wrapping my hair to the iron, my hair just slides down, the iron can't hold my hair.
And 1 more , if I keep messing up , how many times should I try to redo it before I burn all of my hair of and go bald ?
i just had a breakdown trying to curl my hair , gonna try this out and see if it works i’ll update in a bit 😋
how do i do the back of my head with shoulder length hair? im scared and i dont want to burn myself😭🙏
I really want to appreciate this powerful man on Facebook for bringing back my ex to me thank you much... *dr zuko the great*
Great tutorial. I don't see this working however for those of us with really long nails. Maybe the glove would help.
A glove would definitely help. 😊👍🏼
How can I use my wand without burning my fingers, I have short hair, Bob, my hair isn't long enough to stay on the iron like vanessas
Thank you so much for the video! I learned everything. How to hold, possible product to use, technique, & that I'm cut out for a flat iron - the best. My daughters had the wand sitting way back in the back of the closet & this was a spring clean find.
