Hi Beth!! I like this version, but you should hear the vocals of Alejandro in the original version of this song. I do love this version as well but I like the original solo version better.
Hi Beth. This is a collaboration between a Mexican "Ranchero*'" singer and a Spanish** Flamenco singer ("cantaor"). Both styles are very demanding in breath control as they typically have long phrases. However, Ranchero styles uses more "classical chest voice" which is not a stylistic choice in Flamenco. Conversely, Flamenco uses lots of melismas (runs) instead of the straight-long notes of Ranchero. Also, Flamenco Mode is unique with its links to Eastern music (e.g. Arabic) which you have heard in Diego's choice of notes for the runs, while Ranchero uses more typical Western modes. There are other differences as the presence of yodelling in Ranchero. As for Diego's nickname, I cannot find a source but he's musically the spiritual successor of José el Camarón de La Isla, with that nickname meaning "shrimp from The Island [of San Fernando in Cadiz]", so my guess was to give Diego a nickname related to José's, hence the common theme of seafood. (* I'm Spanish so I apologize to Mexicans if I misused the term Ranchero or didn't correctly explained the fine points of that style). (** Diego obtained Dominican nationality, but I used the term Spanish as Flamenco is a purely Spanish music style - no disrepect to Dominicans).
I could be wrong, of course, but El "Cigala" makes a reference to the male Cicada in Rumanian.... It seems that Spain is being repopulated with Rumanians singing Flamenco.
@@jesusllamasmedina5163 I'm sorry but no. "Cigala" is the Spanish word for "Crayfish". It's a nickname (like José Monje - el Camarón de la Isla - "camarón" meaning "shrimp"). The idea of "Spain being repopulated with Rumanians[sic]." is supported by 0% of historians.
Ok then, but a Cicada made more sense, considering the influence of gypsies in flamenco music, the use of Romani language by gypsies and, most of all, cicadas are a lot noisier. Of course, I don't know what I am talking about but I wouldn't trust Google translate that much. @@antonioloma2327
I don't speak Spanish! I did not have to. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful with a Flamenco influence!!!!!!! Thank you Beth for reacting to these type of songs. Hug from across the pond. (U.S.)
Una increíble mezcla de estilos tanto en las voces como instrumentales ,un huapango bien mexicano con sus bronces y el flamenco con guitarra y cajón peruano , saludos desde chile ❤️👏👏👏👏👍
You should do more Alejandro Fernández performance, “Granada” “canta corazón” he got a lot of great songs! This collaboration made him reduce a lot his voice

Hi Beth! Definitely you need to listen Alejandro Fernández singing "Granada" I think every singer has that epic song in their lives, and Granada is that one for Alejandro
Just saw this, but Alejandro is definitely one of the prides of Mexican Music. Definitely encourage you to listen to more of his songs. Alejandro, as well as the other famous singers, has his own nickname being El Potrillo
Hola hermosa Beth, es mucho mejor que analices "Alejandro Fernández en vivo Popurri Juan Gabriel"" O "Granada". Ojalá puedas ver alguno o los dos. Son muy buenos tus videos analizando artistas de todo el mundo. Besos cuidate !!!! Saludos desde México!!!
Dear Beth: This may come as a surprise to you, but actually it is a very sad song of a person that lost his life-long love forever... I know it is kind of weird... but mexicans tend to sing when they are sad. And this guys are enjoying their sadness soooo much!
The heavy metal head banger in me just went for a Tequila and not calling my ex (ni por el putas), and feeling guilty somehow. And whilst I am at the limit of tears, Beth Goes "so much joy" jajajajajajaja. Great singers.
Hello, Beth, nice reaction, i support the suggestion, Cien años, abel pintos y lito vitale, or El antigal abel pintos estadio único de la plata, both more than great, as always seeing your videos beth.
As always a lovely reaction. I love how your face lights up with the music. I recommend you listen to Adriana Lucia y Antonio Carmona singing Cedro This is a mix between Adriana Lucia from the Caribean Coast of Colombia with influence in porro and Carmona with the Spanish Flamenco
Omg Beth, you should totally do a video of Los Bukis (they’re like the Mexican Beatles) they literally reunited after a 25 year absence and have sold out stadiums (sofi and soldier field) these last couple of weeks. They sound better then ever in their live performance. Would love a video on them best.
Pls.react.to Granada.by Alejandro Fernandez. Composed by a mexican in honor of a place in Spain. The 3 tenors also sang it because its that sort of music almost operatic.
Hi Beth. Love your reactions and the variety of genres you review. Have you ever heard of Deanna Durbin? If so, what do you think of her tone and technique? As an amateur, I have always been amazed at her ability to sing opera, traditional ballads, and the Great American Songbook with equal facility.
Hi Beth. Completely unrelated to this video, just wanted to put in a request for a video that I haven't seen anyone do yet. Would love to see you react to Michael Starr (from Steel Panther), specifically the live version of the song "Eyes of a Panther" at Wacken 2016. I haven't seen any vocal coach reactions to Steel Panther and I think you'd have a lot of fun with it because he has quite a unique voice. Thanks🙂
Flamenco artistic names are actually nicknames, usually from a tender age. You wonder why he is called the langostine… well, Camarón de la Isla means “Shrimp of the Island”. They use everyday things, literally.
I'm mexican, and I don't like flamenco mixed with ranchero music. They don't go together. Hope you can react to Alejandro Fernández singing alone. Greetings from México, love your reactions!
Please, please react to Alejandro Fernandez “Granada”. I feel like this specific video doesn’t give him justice. He had to adjust his voice and he’s much more powerful
THIS IS A BEUTIFUL MIX OF VOICES AND ACCENTS MÉXICO AND SPAIN VERY FLAMENCO BUT I WANT THAT YOU REACT ALEJANDRO ALONE WITH THE SONG GRANADA IN SPAIN LIVE PLEASE I ENJOY YOUR REACTIONS VERY MUCH THAN YOU
Hello Beth! Can you please react to another song Alejandro sang on that same concert? I think you can appreciate more of his voice in here, thanks! I'm really enjoy your reactions I'm glad you are analyzing him Happy Christmas!! ruclips.net/video/SrOPyaVinJ8/видео.html

Hi Beth! I would love to see your reaction to the Native American rock band REDBONE if you haven’t done it already! 🤩
Come and Get Your Love.
Correct me I'm wrong but I believe Diego is called : "El Cigada" (The Cicada).bwcause of his singing falsetto.
I think it is Spanish for Little Prong( Shrimp). Guitarist nameing him at birth. His sound is Distinct. Hes a great Talent.
HERMOSA
