    I've got the 2.0 version and contrary to a comment about poor ratings on Amazon, I bought it because 80% of the reviewers rated it 5 stars. And of course, I liked the concept and it has not disappointed. The kill range is 3 feet typical but I've killed flies at 4 feet. I have a summer cabin in MN so I use it a lot.

    Awesome review. I just liked & subscribed 😄 bought one for my husband for father's day, he isn't home yet to try it but after this review I'm super excited to see it in action. We have some mean horseflies right now, I'm hoping this will take care of those as well!

    The latch on the salt container on mine came loose but by using a piece of coat hangar wire you can bend it into the shape of a "c" and put the ends into the holes near the salt container and it holds the lid shut snugly.

    I'm wondering if the sandblasting media (the really fine stuff made of either glass beads or even something harder like garnet) would work better than salt. Table salt is "milled" into a square shape when it is processed and has no real sharp edges. It is about "30 grit" in size. So, if you used a 30 or 40 grit sand blast compound which is designed specifically to have sharp edges, you'd think it would be more lethal.
    Sure, I know most folks dont want silicon carbide or Garnet dust in their homes, but the gun uses such a tiny amount that I dont think it would be noticeable.
    The salt grains actually penetrate the fly's body and kill it even though they are square block shaped and not sharp at all. Imagine how much more effective this would be with razor sharp 40 grit powder?

    One warning about the Bug-A-Salt, hunting flies is addicting. I recommend getting the latest 3.0 version, otherwise, you might get tired of switching off the safety with each shot.

    Two things (one funny, the other practical): 1) A laser physicist I know used to play with their high powered lasers by aiming one at the top of a little pile of sugar and vaporize flies that landed there; and 2) You can also bring down a fly with a squirt bottle containing water and a bit of dish soap. The soapy water gets past the fly's normally water repellant exoskeleton, and it sort of "drowns" them because the water gets into their "gills." I say "drown," but it doesn't really kill them - it just makes them go dormant for about 5 or 10 minutes. After a while, they "wake up" again. I've never done it myself (not quite that kind of guy), but I suppose in their period of dormancy, you could do like that guy back in the 70's(?) did, and glue some flies' feet to a light paper airplane and make it fly around the room for a few minutes. I usually just throw 'em outside so they can do their natural thing, which helps convert waste matter back to the food chain.

      Don Saito Off topic but worth it, I hope: Navy missile radars used to be tested and adjusted in port by aiming the beam at a particular tower at the end of the pier. If seagulls chanced to fly through the beam, it usually knocked them unconscious and they'd fall to the ground, wake up and ruffle their feathers. Downside: When the techs were done, the system was shut down. You might wait an hour and never see it happen.

    I saw the fly disappear , but missed them showing any dead fly bodies. Thank you for the honest review. I shot myself in the palm with my sons bug a salt at about 18 inches. It stung and left no marks and the sting was gone in a couple seconds. At 3 inches it shoots thru a sheet of paper. I folded over a plastic grocery bag and at point blank range the salt went clear thru. This gun can also be used on slugs and snails I hope. We have not flys to shoot this time of year.

    • @Heccct
      @Heccct 8 лет назад

      You can still use assault rifles for snails. May not be the most cost-efficient way to get rid of them, but you certainly will get rid of them, and maybe even more.. if you fire on concrete, not on soil.

Sand, sugar [for adding to coffee] pepper [short range shots in the eyes of an intruder] silica [shooting at beetles to dehydrate and kill them] snuff [blasting up the nose for a quick pick-me-up] sugar & cinnamon [making toast from 10 feet away] Gettin me one

  • @harshbarj
    @harshbarj 10 лет назад +1

    But did it kill them? Most reviews I have read says it mostly just stuns them, 2-3 minutes later they are back up. Small flies it does tend to kill, but anything larger and it's back up, walking, or flying same as before. Not really a scientific review. It would have been best to do the test in a closed environment, where you could examine the insects afterwards, and ensure they are actually dead.

    What do you clean it with......pepper spray? Lololo
    Probably makes the flies taste better, too.
    This will be a lot cleaner and less expensive than using my 12 gauge.
    The Obama administration has limited the amount of salt these things can carry to 2 teaspoons.
    And you have to be registered to carry with the Martha Stewart Cooking network.
    My wife uses this thing to season the meatloaf from across the room.
    If you shoot over someone's shoulder is it good luck?
    You can load it with paprika and freshen the house while your at it.

    I'd like to get one of these so I can pepper some flies with it, I mean salt the some flies with it. But do I need to have an a-salt weapon permit to own one???

    $40.00, I don't think so, but nice review and I appreciated it.

    Cool, I bet sales of bug spray, fly paper & other related products have fallen. I would get two bug-guns & open the windows & doors more.
