Can you explain the difference between a forward crossover and a run/progressive in ice dancing?

      Sure 🙂
Technically “forward crossover” isn’t an ice dance thing.
Progressive runs are very commonly seen in pattern dances and all transitions in Free Dances etc.
As the two name parts “progressive” and “run” suggest, the move is natural and flowing. The path of the feet/legs passing is somewhat reciprocal giving the look of running and giving a powerful skating stride.
In Ice Dance if something is meant to Cross-in-Front, you will see the abbreviation XF in the pattern description. That denotes a requirement for tightly crossed feet at the point of weight transfer.
To make it clear for judges/techs, skaters will quite often emphasise that the cross position is/was tight by pausing or holding the feet and legs “closed” or “crossed” just before or after the step.
      Hope that helps.
Also, there’s a manual that the ISU publishes with all the Ice Dance step descriptions in it. Check their website 🙂👍🏼

Ps, we added the descriptor of Cross-overs for non-specific discipline terminology. It’s a generic name of this move at beginner level

@@IceSkatingLondon A tutorial showing the difference between a forward crossover and a run would be so helpful. I'm not sure of the 'path' the feet take in a run as opposed to a crossover. Do the feet not actually crossover in a run?

@@fisherman023 I see it would be useful to make a “coach chat” video on that topic. Will add to our shoot schedule

Are the alternating cross foot balances the same as cross rolls? it looks as if she might be on outside edges here.

      Thanks for your question.
The cross foot balances (first drill on video) focus on the lead foot being a flat to inside edge. For this drill it is important that we are not allowing the lead foot to be a clear outside edge.
The same drill can be used (allowing the lead foot to take outside edge) to benefit crossroll weight transfer.
The detail of which edge the lead foot takes IS vital to differentiate between these two different skills.
      Hope that helps

Thanks so much for responding. That's made it clear for me.@@IceSkatingLondon
