  • Flying to Sydney for the Blackmore's Sydney Half Marathon 2019. Today's vlog shares my adventure travelling to Sydney and running the 21.1Km Half-Marathon. See what it's like running over the Sydney Harbour Bridge when it's closed to traffic, experience the race, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the amazing Sydney Running Festival.
    I'm really lucky to travel to and run in events like this, but I was just one of over 33,000 other athletes who I was so proud to share the streets with on Sunday morning. So if you ran in this year's Running Festival and are watching this video - CONGRATULATIONS! You did something amazing today.

    Stefan my wife and I did the Blackmore half marathon and ran over the harbour. It’s always a special run ,on that run 17 years ago,my wife was saying she was feeling tired so I held her hand and ran together and we got home we found out she was pregnant with our daughter. Great story Anika 💕🙏

    Am in Sydney at the moment and today twice drove across the Harbour Bridge and it is an amazing structure !! Must have been a great experience to actually run over on the road with thousands of others!! Looks like I will see you in Tokyo for the 2020 games after that performance....I will be there but NOT running a marathon !! Excellent stuff Stef!!

    A good pilot is a fit pilot, and that's your workout for the day. Amazing to think that this feat of engineering was built in the late 1920's, and by British firm Dorman Long & co. I bet that would make you feel proud Stef. Thanks mate.

      The story of building the bridge is fascinating as well. Sadly a few lives lost in the process, some of the photos of workers just standing on beams hundreds of feet above the water with no safety harnesses makes your stomach turn. Incredible feat of engineering. Thanks Spiro.

    Back in my youth , my 20's and 30s , I was a regular race walker and runner.
    My best Marathon was a 3:29, my best 10 miler was 65:56 .
    I still hike a lot in the mountains and keep fit,but at age 77 I'm grateful for whatever health I've retained.
    What you do is smart, good exercise , good fun but not so competitive that you are injured.
    My knees and feet are still good, but many of my comrades, who have survived ,are not very mobile.
    Moderation , proper diet, I'm Vegan , along with the luck of not being very sick or getting seriously injured have worked for me, so far.
    Anyway, congratulations on a great bridge run in one of the world's most amazing cities.
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector

      I remember running past that! Thanks for volunteering and helping make a brilliant day for everyone. And good luck with chasing your aviation dreams, if I can do it then anyone can. Hope you can spend some time hanging at the airport, chatting to people there, and if/when you’re old enough maybe look at weekend work with a flight school. Live and breathe aviation and with hard work and some sacrifices there’s nothing stopping you. Enjoy it, and thanks again, stef

    Hey I plan to run my first half this year, not sure whether it is flat especially climb the bridge. It seems very high, can I pls advise? Thnx

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  2 года назад +1

      Firstly, good luck in your first halfie, that's awesome. It is a bit of a hill from the start line to the top of the bridge so my advice is TAKE IT SLOWLY! Don't go with the crowd, you can easily burn out by the top of the bridge if you're not careful. The Sydney course is a little hilly so take your time. Focus on finishing, not a time, and most of all enjoy it. Have a great day and welcome to the club!

  • @shashenwijesena
    @shashenwijesena 5 лет назад

    Hi Stef
    Isn't the aircraft a 737 -800 and what's the difference to the max ?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  5 лет назад

      Yeah it was a 737-800. Main differences, the Max 8 has newer, larger engines and a different Centre of Gravity to the 737-800. It also has different software with MCAS which is what is believed to have caused the issues. So they’re similar, but the Max 8 is basically newer, more fuel efficient, but some work to be done before we see them fly again.

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  5 лет назад +2

      Yes it was a great route - over, under, and then around the streets of Sydney. I do use Strava but I don't have a public account I'm afraid, too many runs start and stop at my house and I prefer to keep that private. But I share results on Instagram/Twitter sometimes though.

    • @lukasdorling3380

      @@StefanDrury cool will have a look then 👌🏽 also if you didn't know this but you can log onto strava on your computer and block your home address. It means that when others see your run or ride the end of the run is about anywhere from I think 600ms plus boundary radius you can set around they address. Thats what I use 😊 epic videos by the way😎👌🏽

    So it is like the Bridge to Brisbane

  • @r08800
    @r08800 5 лет назад

    Didn't used to have to go to a different state to run over a bridge. In the 80's Melbourne had the Herald Sun super run that went over the Westgate.

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  5 лет назад

      I didn't know that. Wow, that would be quite the climb though, pretty decent gradient up to the top of the Westgate. Did you run that Robbo?

    • @r08800
      @r08800 5 лет назад

      Stefan Drury certainly did. A few times. I was a teenager back then and much fitter. The trick with the gradient was to look at the road, not up the hill. 17.5 k from the herald sun building to Flemington racecourse.
