Liechtenstein is one of my favourite places i have visited
Having collected stamps as a child I decided to pay a quick visit to Liechtenstein when on my first trip to Europe more than 40 years ago. Train from Zurich to Buchs, bus to Vaduz. Then a hike up past the Castle and into the countryside for lovely views back over the Rhine into Switzerland while eating a picnic lunch in the fields of wildflowers.
On the way up past the Castle I'd given a happy greeting to an elderly gentleman making his way down to the town and got a reserved but gracious acknowledgement. It was only when back in Vaduz and buying postcards etc that I realized why the old gentleman had seemed vaguely familiar. His face was on the stamps!!! 🙄😉😊
Sounds like a very precious memory. Liechtenstein and Switzerland are very beautiful now, i could imagine 40 years ago, must have been more beautiful with less tourists.
