I was a young teenager during the late 1990s in LA listening to evening talk radio on my Walkman and stumbled upon Phil Hedrie show on KFI AM640. His act, along with all of the real callers was amazing. I listened until he went off the air, around maybe 2005?
I've been a fan since 1990. Fascinated at his ability to concentrate and get 4 or more voices talking in one conversation. A genius and a national treasure!
Hendrie is talent squared .. worked w/Phil briefly 1970s @ wSHE FM Miami/Ft Laud/Keys/Palm beach he went on to make all the right moves & developed his huge mad skills in bigger gigs & bigger markets MacDaddy broadcaster 😮
I was on vacation in Florida the first time I heard Phil back around 2001 or so. I was driving with my girlfriend and said “Why are these callers yelling, don’t they realize it’s the host doing voices?”. I had always had an ear for pitch and tone in music and voices and had picked up on it right away and just assumed that was the show but when I heard real people calling in upset with a dribble of pee spilling out and they couldn’t tell, I got right into it.
Classic and one of the best live shows on air when he had live callers! I still remember the first bit when I got hooked. Steve Bosell found a piece of the shuttle disaster in his yard and put it up on Ebay!!! Amazing radio!
Phil has been in my life many years now. And, yes, he did pull me out of some funky times - even if he would most likely regret it. 😀 Oh, wait, no he wouldn't - I've been a backstage member on and off for YEARS. All the voices we have rolling around in our heads sometimes do escape (more for people like Phil and I). Unscripted, free, raw - scary? You bet your arse. Unexpected laughter at the insanity that spills out keeps me S A N E. ❤
KFI some of the best radio ever back then. Phil doing on location stuff was always a hoot. I remember Jim Seals Auto Farm or something, RC on location lmao
While attending an Independent Fundamental Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, CA...after serving five yearsin the Marines but forced to live in the dorms-you kept me sane...not pulling out of depression but preventing me from choking several students. Did not hear your first show on KFI. I did like listening to the fellow you replaced and thought of listening to him (thinking he went to an ABC affiliate) I was a security guard at a space and defense company but had the night off and decided to give you a listen for your second show on KKFI-and was instantly hooked. The skits I remember the most was when this kid who was dying decided to give his heart to satan because he gave his heart to Jesus and it did nothing for him...if he gave his hart to Satan, at least he would get laid. The second was the old black gramma who was going to beat the devil out of her damien infested grand child. This was in 1995 or 1996. I did see you on The Unit.
I've been a fan of his show for a long time. He's not very good at female voices (they all sound the same) but he's still super talented. I miss Pastor Renick of the Joyful Union Congregation
Real callers are what made the show! Phil was a genius interacting with them! I keep relistening to those best years!
Phil's a great bunch of guys. Comedy genius.
I miss radio show!

Enjoyed this very much!
I THINK PHIL HENDRIE IS GREAT BECAUSE HE DID SUCH A GOOD JOB FOR THE HANK HILL!
If Phil didn't leave radio in 2006 to chase acting he would be 2nd only to Howard Stern today.
Gay journalist and homeowners association my favorites.
Such an awesome guy. I loved the phone calls to the characters 😂
