- Puck Fair in Killorglin County Kerry is Ireland’s oldest and most traditional fair, although nobody can say exactly when it first started.
Thousands of visitors from all walks of life, from Ireland and abroad, attend the attractions associated with the three day event, but the main business of the fair is trading horses, cattle and sheep. The pubs are open from 6 am until 3 am but according to the locals
Sure most people at Puck don’t bother to sleep at all for the three days of the fair.
The crowning of the goat ‘King Puck’ is the highlight of the fair. The goat is hoisted above the town and displayed for the duration of the event.
Patrick Houlihan whose family has been responsible for catching King Puck for nearly a century describes the difficulties encountered with this task. He is keen to stress that there is no animal cruelty involved and the goat is released back into the wild to his traditional home of the Carrauntoohil Mountains when the fair is over.
I’d say to look down at the crowd and see the thousands, he’ll be the happiest animal or person around Killorglin for the three days.

My earliest memory of Puck was the summer of '69 as a 7yr old. Killorglin comes alive at every Puck & this is a great (but short) clip bringing back so many memories of my youth; thanks for posting... 👍👍👍
The pub opens at 6:00 am and closes at 3:00 am
The good oul days💚
Once your in it never closes.
They close for 3 hours, a chance to count the takings. Jammed wall to wall.🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺👍😃😄😅👏👏🥰🥰🥰🍺🍻
Like the Englishman in Lisdoonvarna, couldn't believe the pubs open round the clock. He saw and guard and asked him when are the pubs supposed to close.
Oh says the wily guard, 1st of October. Slainte.🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺keep her lit.
@@johnmc3862 didn't it used to be drinking 3 days and nights ? I read the fair was originally pre Christian times ?
Was their in 2016. Really enjoyed it. Great excitement. Great day.👍
Thank God it hasn't changed one bit. Still a mighty session
My Parents were from Cahirciveen,so my mom always used to be talking to us about "Puck Fair"
I see some animal rights issues here. I'll be talking to my local Green party rep.
@@joeybloggs2100 can't quite yell if you're being serious or not...🤔
TheGazza83 - So it's still a lively event with the goat a man in a sack? I'm amazed cancel culture /virtue signalling hasn't invaded your parts yet!
@@rickknight3823 hold my vegan burger. I'm on it.
Viper Higgins needs to 're narrate these old classic clips, be a crazy bita business
0:08 The bloke being chained up in a sack has been looking forward to the fair all year 😂

@@wuffalo Sure give him a pack a Tayto, some pink snacks, and a pint a Guinness, and he'd be doing fine, sure he'd be well entertained at that.
@@padraigcurran3236 pint off guineas not possible maybe a guiness drip and a promise off the rest once untied...

“Bjaysus get yer eyes off me ned”
You have to hand it to the gentleman, he picked the perfect shirt for showing off that belly he's been working on all year.
Porter belly
Some money gone into it.
Literally just pissed my pants, camera man years ahead of his time 🤣🤣🤣
I still have cigarette burns all over my jacket from standing in the packed pubs until 3 AM.
I had great times at Puck when i was a child.
You are doing God's work with these uploads. Thank you 🙏👍
God wouldn't treat an animal like that

I watched a video of the fair from a few years back where they were cooking up bbq'd kangaroo, how long has that been a tradition of the fair?
Hundreds of years lad 1600s
But like it says in the commentary on it goes back to 200BC 🤣
Kangaroo is not a tradition of luck fair as far as I know
@@MaryJones-br5we kangaroos were invented in Ireland
Will it go ahead 2021 ?
no
Only if the goat is vaxxed, masked and socially distanced
do they still do this today or is this a thing of the past?
Still on every August in Kilorglin.
Tom MacSweeneys voice is still recogniseable
Tunnel of goats anyone?
Alien abduction goat version
Was there a guy in that bag?
Yeah, I came to the comments hoping someone would shed some light on that.
Shame there's no markets like this one in other cities around the UK instead of shopping centers
I feel sorry for the poor goat but it looks like good crack Is it still held?
It is indeed! 10-12th August every year
Gotta love a good Fuck Pair, I mean Puck Fair.
Is this where they auctioned off their wives? If you've read the literature you know it's happened often.

Has any1 asked the animal is he happy
Can't imagine he is. I definitely wouldn't be supporting it.
Well the Goat is better off than Battery Pin Chickens that are common in the Poultry Industry. The Goat has fresh Air and loads of admirers 👍
Noel would you expect the goat to answer you back?
@@andrewdavy9921 its kerry he would
Torturing a goat and making the excuse that it is for fun, is barbaric.
0:08 WTF?
Don't like the goat idea personally
