Mulan is one of my favorite Disney films and scenes with the Huns are why: "How many men does it take to deliver a message?" "One." Mulan and the army singing happily- gets cut off with shots of a bloody battlefield and ashes of an innocent village. And this song... Music builds up as hundreds and thousands of Huns on horseback appear and charge
KaseyGuardian The Huns and the Mongols are very much alike because the Chinese were scared shitless because of them and both of them changed history in the West...
I will never forget when this movie came out in theaters and my parents took me to see it. This scene was so epic and loud. The feeling of watching Shan Yu and the Huns appear after the smoke clears and then they charge at full force, sounding like a football stadium, combined with this phenomenally composed score? Chills. You felt that…. One of the greatest moments in 2D Animation imho.
For me it;s the beginning up to 0:22. I remember watching Shan Yu shadow in the top of the mountain and slowly arising and taking form always scared the shit out of my when I was a kid.
Shang Yu, the only disney villain who does not sing and knows what he is doing. Mulan the only disney princess who is not princess and has gone to war to fight for and save the entire china. Perfect
@@CptRomulus You're right. In a hand, Shan Yu is a less good villain than the Horned King because he is less terrifying. But, in the other hand, I think he is more charismatic (and doesn't have a comic relief as his lieutenant). In Taram, we never see the army that fight the Horned King and we never see the men he kill. In Mulan, every Chinese people react to the invasion and we can see how all of them except the emperor is scared when facing the Huns. And, if you want to speak about Frollo, I don't consider him as a good villain. Sorry, I think he's so far better than the other character and the story that he become not so good. I don't know if you have read the original novel. If not, that isn't a problem ; an adaptation must be enjoyed by itself. But, reading the book helps to understand the psychology of Frollo : in the same time, he wants to stay vertuous and to rape Esmeralda. But that's too dark and too deep for a children film. As a result, Frollo isn't well developped, except during a single scene, his song (and that scene sounds much better in french, because Jean Piat). During the rest of the film, he's just a random cruel racist guy who commands the city guard. To make it simple : Frollo is a too deep character from a too deep story for children.
I do understand that Frollo in the Hugo novel was much deeper than Disney's Frollo, and was thus fut for more mature audiences (or should I say readers). I have also heard he is much more of a sympathetic anti-villain in the novel.
[The Huns technically caused one of the greatest empires to fall, The Roman Empire. But we all fear china because they defeated them with 5 people, little snake dragon, and a cricket according to the film...] lol
The Huns have never been in China, it was the Mongols who went there. Like Genghis Khan. The Huns come from Mongolia, but they are also a fusion of many people in russia, Ukraine. They are also Alamans and Mongols so bullshit nation :)
***** ... What? "but thousands of hungry got nothing to lose barbarians or gauls i believe" is not a sentence. Could you explain what you're trying to say?
***** The way you wrote it did not make legible sense, and while that was the final result, that ignores the centuries of mistakes and decisions that led to the fall. The sacking of Rome was not a singular event that just caused collapse.
Just when I imagine this mighty warhorde of huns galloping down this mountain... you feel the might in the music. By far my favourite scene in this movie.
Shan Yuu is a boss. As much as I hate his ruthlessness, he's just one of those bad guys that makes being evil seem like a lot of fun. Just look Shang's face when Shan Yuu comes out from behind the snowdrift, even when it's just him.
A good soundtrack; where you can visualize the scenes because the music is so epic and legendary, and fits the scene just that well.. This is an awesome soundtrack
The battlefield was strangely quiet. As the last wisps of smoke cleared from the mountain slope, a lone horseman appeared. A moment later he was joined by a massive line of soldiers stretching out along the horizone.
I was playing Pandora while I was playing "Skyrim" and this track started to play when a dragon, 2 sabre cats, 4 spiders, 2 bears, and three wolves started to attack me. I could not stop laughing. That's when I realized how much the universe wants me dead. XD
I can't listen to this without remembering when I first saw this movie in theatres...the roaring of the Huns as they come charging over the mountainside...I get chills every time.
Flutes and piccolo, oboes and english horn, clarinets and bassoons. Horns, trumpets, trombones and tuba. Violins, violas, cello and basses. Piano and Harp. Timpani. Percussion: snare drum, bass drum, crash cymbals, tam-tam(and or gong), marimba. There's a percussion that I don't know exactly what it is, it could possibly be a synthetizer percussion which is featured in these two sections: from 0:25 to 0:41 and then again from 1:00 to 1:11. Trombones are playing with mutes in some parts.

I would probably have had a feeling of euphoria!
Right? To experience something like that in person would be incredible!

Yes!
"YOU MISSED!!! HOW COULD YOU MISS, HE WAS THREE FEET IN FRONT OF YOU!!!"
Cue the mountain crumbling and causing an avalanche.
Mulan: "anyone else hear boss music?"
The Huns: "anyone else hear boss music?"
Mulan fired a cannon, which caused an avalanche!. From Joe. X
How could you miss? He was 3 feet in front of you!
gotta love eddie murphy

I could have aimed it at him but the mountain was a way easier target.

Supreme Dalek Well not really, the Mongols were.

The Huns and the Mongols are very much alike because the Chinese were scared shitless because of them and both of them changed history in the West...
Those are Mongols, different.
They also came from the Steppes
When I was a child, this scene was terrifying..
Then the writers did their job because the Huns scared the daylight out of the Chinese and Romans.
The beginning part of the music score sounds sinister/brutal/scary/courageous especially with the hun invasion
Henry Lechmere villain looks very brutal so

a once in a lifetime experience :)

Yes, when we Turks and Mongols went to war, we used to scream and wolf howl in battle to upset the psychology of our enemy.
This music perfectly captures the might of the Huns, just like the Mongols, they brought the world to its knees.
