      Get ready to pay for your education….I donated thousands before I won my first and I’m no where near the level of these guys, yet my friends say I’d catch fish in a mud puddle.
      Edit: I guess what I’m saying is be persistent and don’t get discouraged. Look at every tournament as a learning experience and keep that knowledge and then all of a sudden one day boom it clicks and you come out on top!! B-Lat is one of my hero’s because he was just a regular working man that stuck with it and made it. I would also say learn your electronics front to back. The name of the game is knowing how to map and figure out an unknown lake as fast as possible and if you know how to use your electronics correctly you can make that a whole lot easier. You still have to catch fish but being able to get the pattern cuts the work in half.

    Brian, are those line spoolers sold anywhere?

  • @academicmailbox7798

    Brian, Is the token 'fly fishing' angler (with breathable chest wader clothing and boots)? Simply rolling around on the back deck of the bass boat? There to demonstrate in the broader scheme of things? The pecking order and hierarchy. Where fly fishermen and fly fishing fits in? If that is it, then it's okay. We normally do roll like a bunch of amateurs. That is for sure. Some of us even struggle to tie our own shoe laces (my biggest problem is I normally forget my rod or reel, when I arrive at the river or lake). Because it's so rare. That I get to pack my tackle into my vehicle. And do fishing any longer. I tend to lose my edge altogether.

      Actually, I enjoyed when Matt Pangrac in the week. Had the interview with the engineer from the rod making company. Who went into the thing. Of how bass boat fishing rods. Went from being five to six feet in length. Not that long ago. To recently, extending up to seven and eight feet in length (and how the older bass boats did not have 'rod lockers' that were long enough to store eight foot rods either). The first longer bait casters. Had to be 'telescopic' so that the rod could be fitted in the six foot lockers.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 года назад

      In the conversation. They come to the point. That anything above eight feet in length. In a bass boat (with tournament officials, co-anglers and camera guys). Standing on the decks. Makes it too easy. To hook someone else in the boat. When one is casting, making hook sets and so forth. So eight feet, even on the modern twenty foot length boat. Is around the limit (it allows both anglers the luxury to be able to operate at either end of a bass boat). And not to worry. About interfering with each other. Our fly rods start at around eight feet normally. Would be considered 'short'. But I can understand the viewpoint. That conventional casting rods and tackle. Of sufficiently short length. As opposed to fly fishing tackle. Makes a lot of sense. For tournament fishing (where there is just the sheer number of tournaments that happen each year, and numbers of anglers, boats, officials etc). That are needed to keep it all going.

      The way the fly fishing anglers actually manage with boats. In saltwater tournaments in Florida. Is the fly fishing angler. Is never in charge of the boat (the boats for the competitions are always controlled by a 'captain'). Who operates everything on the boat side of it. And the fly fishing anglers just do the fishing part. So actually, competitive fly fishing tournaments. Which is a fairly serious business in saltwater. It's a legitimate competitive sport. Is actually a two-person team sport. As opposed to an individual sport. In the way that bass competitive fishing is. The fly fishing competitions are a little like golf. In the way the golfer has a caddy partner on the course. And it's sort of a team effort as well.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 года назад

      Here is the question though. I know that in high schools now. There is effectively a 'captain' of the boat. And the school attendees. The high schooler's. Who fish in teams of two anglers (their bag weight is considered as a single bag of fish fish). For the two high-schooler's. I wonder is there any former in competitive bass angling worth a try? Where there is a boat captain and a boat angler? I doubt it's ever been done. It would represent a different approach though. And it may enable guys such as fly fishing anglers. To compete alongside conventional tackle anglers. In the same events in bass fishing.

      It would be interesting. To invite some of those saltwater fly fishing anglers. To South Carolina for one of the tournament events. To fish with their captain on 'freshwater' fishing lakes. Using a similar captain and angler 'team' system. That they are familiar with using. In those cup tournaments down in Florida. Just an idea. It would add an extra dimension. To the South Carolina events.
