  • This video is separated into two parts. The first part (after the ridiculous intro) is how to change the oil on the Predator 3500 Inverter Generator. This is my 40 hour oil change after my first 2 changes during the "break in" period.
    The second part is time stamped below where I show you how to fix the surging (or chugging) idle that occurs after the generator has sat for a while.
    14:45 - Fix the inconsistent idling (chugging up and down.)

    I have a Predator 4550 open frame inverter generator with less than 20 hours on it. Was frustrated when it started to chug just as you described in the video. I used your fix today and it worked PERFECTLY! Thank you.

    Tilt the engine to the side when draining oil. You left several ounces of used oil in the engine.

    What causes the secondary jet to clog up is that the engine is running to rich, and you need to change the main jet, (the one in the float bowl ) to match your altitude, I live at about 5500 feet altitude so I am using a number 68 size jet. You will also notice that you get more hours per gallon. I hope this helps you out

    I removed the control panel and disconnected the kill wire from the on off dial. So when to turn it to off it continues to run and burn all the fuel in the carb.

    Any idea on what the metric sizing is for the eco mode idle screw? Mine snapped off inside of it and I'm wondering if I should just replace the entire carb or find another screw to use for it. I wonder why they made that screw out of plastic 😒

  • @blackriflemensorganization6139

    Thanks for the info! I just bought mine and I'm running a break in procedure at this moment. It's brand new... I notice it runs and started immediately. But it does have a surge of rpm about every 30 to 60 seconds, with what sounds like a bit of popping. Will an NGK plug help smooth it out? I am assuming that the idle port is not clogged from the factory? Also, would carb cleaner do the job without removing the screw and port? Thanks again!

    • @dontburnthehousedownvideos
      @dontburnthehousedownvideos  Год назад

      I'm not sure about the carb cleaner working as I've never really tried it. And I've ran into that surging also. Make sure you are running non oxygenated premium gas in it. I always add some Seafoam also.

    Oh how I wish there was a simple method to REMOVE that black plastic frame thing that is right in the way of all carburetor adjustments and work! Why did they build it that way? I'm tempted to cut it off top and bottom, and reinstall with some thin aluminum sheet and a couple of screws to patch it up top and bottom.
    The idle adjust screw: If you don't remember or can't set it exactly where it was.... just screw it back in a wee bit more than you think it was.... RUN the engine with no load. Listen to the rpm. Back it out slowly, and the rpm will decrease. When it stops decreasing, you're at the correct setting. Screw it back in just a wee bit to hear it start going back up to make sure you didn't go out too far. Try the Eco mode, and the idle there should be a wee bit lower than normal mode. You're done with the idle screw!

    Should have taken the black frame off too. OHV is Over Head Valve. With the black frame off, also remove bothe ends of the tube between the air filter and t he OHV.

    My manual for the preditor 3500 inverter generator says make first oil change after 30 hours ? Where are you seeing after the 1st hour ? Most people buy these for emergency such as right now it's 30 below with windchill and a whiteout and power outages everywhere , I've never heard of having to change your oil after 1 hour?

    • @dontburnthehousedownvideos
      @dontburnthehousedownvideos  Год назад

      I do that as a best practice any time I get a new small engine. One hour and ten hours. Both times with the predator it had a lot of metal shavings in the oil so I'm glad I did it.
