I understand your heartbreak, as we had a similar situation occur a few years ago and I'm still trying to get over it :( Sounds like she had a fun personality, and I'm happy you decided to paint this in her honor. I hope it brings you comfort knowing that you and Tamsin gave this little gal the happiest of days of her life by living with you. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Canterbury's Dean, Robert. He helped many people in his life, and I always enjoyed listening to him speak. I'm thrilled you had the opportunity to see him. I love what you said about painting things for people specific to what they enjoy, such as your friend painting the picture of your home. So very thoughtful. As always, I thank you for sharing your art talent with us, as well as your stories. I love listening to you paint and talk, as it is so relaxing. Are you getting ready to bake your beautiful white Christmas cake again this year? Hi Carolyn and thanks so much for your lovely message! No, this year we’re not having Christmas cake - I am going to make a hazelnut meringue gateau instead ! But we will have mince pies as usual! Sweet! Sorry to hear about your white chicken, I recall you did a little video about trying to find where she laid her eggs (she made you work for egg gathering!) not surprised that you felt a loss, each animal has its own personality. Thanks for sharing this!
I think the bond of love is just as strong and important to our feathered or furry children so of course we are sad when they are no longer with us. I hope one of your new chickens is a rooster. I miss hearing the roosters crowing in the background! Very cute painting! ❤
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts. We still have a rooster, and you might hear more of him after Christmas - when there was so much crowing it was because for a while we had two and they were competing for the loudest crow! Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year !
Love the stark simplicity ! Used to collect chicken decorative items as a young bride 60 years ago so this struck a nostalgic chord with me. Will watch again and try to recreate this. Love basket of white eggs against the dark blue. ❣️
Great tutorial. So sorry about your little white hen. Of course you were sad! And you are absolutely correct that they are much more feisty and braver than other hens. I’ve only had the odd white one in my various flocks over the years and they all had that similar feisty personality. I currently have one that I’ve had for years and she is so full of personality. We call her Miss Pity Pat. She insists that she be fed treats out of your hand and expresses her displeasure very loudly when I give treats from my hand to any of the other hens. That’s so very sad about Dean Robert. I’m in the U.S. but watched The Garden Congregation a fair bit during the pandemic. Really enjoyed them and the cats. Thanks for another great video. Hi and thanks very much for your lovely message! They are so funny these little girls - they have no tail feathers because they’ve been in a battery cage for awhile and I think they all peck at each other. These three were rescued from death row by our next-door neighbour who works in the chicken processing plant when I asked him if he could bring us three white chickens. They came in a box all squashed together. But when I let them out they were immediately perfectly happy and at home with our other seven great fat brown chickens. They fitted in right away. One of them seems to have developed a sore foot or leg, but I think she probably fell off of a perch. Hopefully she will recover. They all rest together on the same perch all 10 of them keeping one another warm. It’s really nice to see of course they’re a little bit wary of humans at the moment, but I’m sure they will soon be more friendly. I don’t know what to call them because at the moment they are all - except for when the one that limps is walking - identical!

I was just watching one of your videos and you were talking about all the the horrible videos that they put on your iPad thinking you might like them. Don't let it bother you I just skip over them. Don't waste your time worrying about them. There is so many good videos on RUclips. Subscribe to things you do like and there won't be enough room for them to put all those crazy videos on your computer. There is still a lot of good people in this world.
