The irony is fans and supporters saying oh this manager doesnt care, this manager doesnt care about the club. Now a manager has truly said how he feels, shows he really gives a damn and he gets crushed for it. I loved it, it is refreshing for a manager to basically tell those supporters who shout from the stands ya I get it dude lol it pisses me off as well. I think the modern era of athlete can control their narrative in a way they couldnt before so managers and clubs tip toe around and give them the white glove treatment even when they are shit.
This “issue”just made us the supporters to back Bruno Lage even more, this has gained a lot of support for him, I see in the Benfica group chats and fan pages the backing of Lage rising immemsely lately
100% with you man. And remember the leak phonetaps from 2020? He called Weigl a “mono” (that’s big and useless for the non-PT speakers) that he didn’t ask for. And yet he put left with no fuss, after the nosedive he wasn’t responsible for. He’s one of us, and if he’s not part of the solution he’ll know it. The problem is not him, it’s the people in the structure above him, making money out of these deals and that don’t have the best interest of Benfica at heart.
I think it was a bad look he was barely coherent, just a lot of swear words and no ideas. It sounded e like a typical rant in the bar after a few drinks.
Portuguese League: - Sporting players get beaten by thugs from the ultras; - FC Porto head of the ultras is arrested accused of corruption - The leader from Benfica ultras with some of his pals shows up at the players and coaches car parking in order to 'talk' with Bruno Lage, then record the conversation and put it online. And you guys say portuguese football isn't interesting 😂
Muito obrigado Adrien for doing this, I’ve been struggling my way through Portuguese language media trying to wrap my head around the saga for the past week
i am wildly glad that this happened. We are so dependent on player value and subsequent sales. Being outside of the top 5 leagues, I get that we need to sell players to make money. I kind of enjoy being a feeder club, and seeing our players go on to even bigger things in the Prem specifically. What's frustrating is that our league is a great foundation, and place for players to grow, and yet, we have these kids from the academy or South America that are flipped for profit immediately instead of giving them an extra season of development, where maybe they could be worth even more, or go on to do even better things if they're allowed some of that extra room to grow. And We'd probably be more consistent in the Champion's League if this was the mentality. Benfica reminds me a lot of Mourinho's Man U comments regarding football heritage, because we just let our heritage go at the glint of what might be gold. Joao Neves is doing well at PSG, but that swap for Sanches and 60 mil is wildly undervalued. He's a perfect example of the mentality problem at Benfica. I have a lot of belief in the Primeira Liga for its developmental potential and foundation in player development, and don't mind the sales of young players or old ones coming back. But the lack of thoughtfulness in that sort of practice, and allowing those sales without paying any mind to our own status as a club is a disgraceful thing to see year after year. I'm 100% behind Bruno Lage if he's similarly minded to any degree. We need to value our team and what they turn players into rather than valuing the players for profit in and of itself. Totally disagree that it will "never be a smooth ride." I really think it can be if there is a better foundation
I have to correct you here, there is no such thing as 5 top leagues, there are 4. French league is a joke compared to the main four, it's just put there for the political weight that France has. Portuguese primeira liga is easily better than French Ligue 1. Ligue 1 quality is as good as Eredivisie, and you can easily see that by the results french teams have in Europe.
I respect Rui Costa as a player very much, as he is a legend of Benfica and the game in general. However, as a president, he has been very questionable. Talking more about football and not much about other sports, since Rui Costa became the oficial president of the club, besides that first magical months of the Roger Schmidt era, I haven't seen much excitement from the players while playing in general nor have I seen them wanting to defend the badge with their life. Yes it can be very profitable, but watching the players that give it all for the club in the pitch leave so easily because of money is very frustrating. I wish that one day we can retrieve our legacy in Europe and honor those who worked so hard to make Benfica a Giant in the sport. Despite the situation, I will continue to go to the stadium to jump and sing for the team, as are thousands of other fans. Caminharei sempre contigo Benfica!
Daniela Ruah (Portuguese actress that was at NCIS) gave an interview, and one of the headlines was “my husband says - why are your screaming? - I’m not screaming, I’m Portuguese.” That’s just what we do, and I can see it in you in these videos! That’s just our way.
Came here to say this exactly even though Adrien is Portuguese he doesnt understand that bruno was screaming from passion not anger or bad mouthing any Portuguese person that understood Bruno knows what how and why
@x4vcr yamal wouldn’t even play on the Barcelona first team for like 4 more years after that happened. And Saka is on arsenal, of course they’re not gonna win anything. You must be a child or something.
I went to a benfica game with my gf after a benfica supporter let me buy his tickets and have to say it was one of the best stadium experience ever and I’ve been to a lot. Esp Bundesliga ones and the red light show in the beginning and the club anthem with everybody singing was one of the best moments in my life. If you have the chance go to a match you will never be disappointed ( at least from the atmosphere :) )
From what I remember, Cabral looked like he was going to be an incredible add on to the team when he first came on - I don't know if it's just that he doesn't train enough, but he started becoming wildly inconsistent a few weeks after.
I absolutely LOVE this level of passion from Bruno. He wants the best for this club for more than just the fact they pay his bills. He didn't give away anything that wasn't already said, but he spoke his mind and he spoke truth.
Saying that Bruno lage was bad at wolves is a bit of stretch, love from a fellow benfica fan and I loved the video don't get me wrong, always lovely such a great channel cover benfica
I honestly do not see this as such an issue as many do. What he said most people know, that sometimes you need to put player in so they do not depreciate . One thing I found curious is that Lage went to talk with the fans apparently without being surrounded by 10 security agents and the national boxing champ behind like.... one coach of another team did. PS i think he was talking about kokcu and cabral more than anyone else.
Being from a country where football fans are insane (my team's in particular), visiting the team at the training facilities to either boost their confidence or literally warn them to perform better, it is nice to see something different. A coach giving it to them, the way it is. The fans have no reason to be there in the first place. The fact that he accepted to speak to them, is commendable. I don't see how he is at fault here. He is telling them the truth. He is also hinting on the fact that certain decisions, are out of his control and that is what the fans should pay attention to. All and all, if he gets sacked, I don't think it will be because he cursed or screamed at the fans. It will be because he gave insights on how things work in the club and the management won't like that.
I actually think Lage has been pretty good, he isnt scared to make substitutions and even sideline important players if they are not performing (ex: scheldrup for akturkoglu), we are also forgetting that he didnt started the season nor had a choice in squad building, he might not be the best coach, but he adapts quickly and the game we lost against sporting he fixed the buildup from the back by putting kokcu as a DLP, honestly he has made good tactic decisions along the line, but sometimes it comes down to the players and their will to change the game. We have to support the team, impatience is what kills greatness and no one can question Lage dedication and spirit he brings, he lives for Benfica and sometimes that is the most important.
As a Benfiquista, I truly feel for Lage. The man is just tired of shouldering all the blame. Remember that when Vieira was still president, he sold Félix for that ludicrous amount of money and didn't even properly back Lage in the market. Sometimes people just tire of being scapegoats
I don’t know why but Fonseca and Conceicao are the same human being to me. You never see them do anything good and they both get the AC Milan job for some weird reason and get sacked after 6 months
@jeanlundi2141 „Never do anything good? Didn’t you know they actually got 2,4 points a game in Portugal and won the Primeira Liga 5 times in a row??!!“ 🤓👆👆 I’m here to tell you right now: We don’t care ahaha we don’t care
10:25 while i understand the point trying to be made this isn't football manager if you DON'T worry about values it'll hurt in the long run... At the absolute worst you'll end up bankrupting your club
Tomás Araújo, António Silva and sheldrup will be sold in the summer, Benfica always needs money. This happening also means we have no defence, so fun times are coming, plus the fact Sporting most likely will win the league, no champions league football next season. On top of all of this the people jn charge will still be the ones preparing the next season, so I think we will be having a dark season ahead of us. But I hope I'm very wrong
Hey, great vid. He's shouting, but that's not "bad". The bad part are the mix messages he's sending with the "conference" he gave the day after, confirming he's just a "yes man" for the board. He like Lage. He needs to stand his ground.
So there's a precedent when it comes to prestigious Portuguese presidents presently taking precedence by providing their perpetual presence, particularly pertaining to the press?
The market value quote is so dramatic. Basically saying most players play based on their market value or if Benfica want to sell them for instead of based on merit.
Love me some football drama and behind the scenes of a club. Would it be fair to say Bruno Lage is like Dutch Van Der Linde? XD anyway, hope you enjoy RDR2 Adrian!
I get it that some may not like this, but I find it refreshing for a manager to basically say what every other coach or manager wants to. Basically confirming the fans feelings and saying ya it pisses me off to when these guys are shite lol. The modern era of athlete is to often coddled and told how great they are, even when they stink. When a manager bucks that trend people automatically react negatively now and we shouldnt. Ruben supposedly went off on the United squad after a match and you know what I love it because they have been shit. Managers and coaches in all sports are often scapegoated for players performing poorly when in reality they can only control so much. At some point tactics go out the window and players should be accountable for their poor performances.
100% puppet coach! I like Lage he loves the club and truly wants to help out but he's blaintely doing the boards bidding, that thing with the market value was pushed into him for sure they have none to sell at the moment. Maybe Antonio gets better, maybe (hopefully not) Tomas Araujo, maybe its why Scheldrup was put into the squad out of nowhere in 3 years but things are looking no so great for a clube that desperately needs to sell each year.
to be fair, that audio only shows his hunger. is he good enough to coach benfica? maybe...? especially if we get rid of some of the highest paid players who add nothing to the team. cabral is gone, thankfully. kokçu isn't good enough to be there.
Leaking such a private conversation is disgraceful. And so is making a report. And so is making a video. I suppose if portuguese clubs do well, everyone is quiet on the english youtube channels, but something slips, its already news. Vultures, I tell you.
He's doing fine enough imo. We'd at least be even with sporting if we had actual strikers instead of arthur and pavlidis. Pavlidis at least makes up for his shitty domestic performances in the champions league but benfica has three strikers with a combined 11 goals in the league after 19 games. That's abysmal. Our strikers are getting outscored by midfielders which just doesn't usually happen in this club. For a quick comparison, Darwin and Gonçalo Ramos had 19 and 26 goals in their final complete seasons for the club. Darwin in 28 games, Ramos in 30. The 3 strikers benfica has combined, are still behind *just* gonçalo ramos
@mori5481 in my opinion you can't have a game like you had against Barcelona then go to Rio Maior to play Casa Pia who are decent this year in the league for their level, score a penalty and then fall asleep for 70 minutes. Don't get me wrong this is not Lage's squad, for me he's not the problem, the way the club is being managed is the problem. We have no consistency and that's been a problem for a while. Saudações Benfiquistas
@ I agree. I just think that a better striker would be the starting point (regarding the squad). It seems like the squad can't be bothered to show up for the league a lot of the times which obviously can't happen.
hey we dont know each other but i hope ur doing well and I wanna say that GOD still loves u and wants u to be with him all u must do is trust in Jesus (dying for our sins on the cross) and repent of ur sins. GOD loves u more than u can imagine.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
ngl hearing a coach acknowledge market value is kinda of refreshing
Its almost like usually we don't get to hear what coaches say behind closed doors.
Thank you!

@@mori5481 Remeber, "Gonçalo Ramos is very limited and won't be missed" was a very common sentence when he was sold.
How do you became a Benfica fan?
Believe his family is Portuguese and that's their team.
Watching Arsenal v City means you'll be missing the Milan derby. Bad choice.
