Really love your approach of taking “imitation” of cats, crows, etc. to illustrate how singers get certain sounds. “I’ll get you my pretty!” There’s a lot to play with in the voice. Singers that have unique color and textures in their approach captivate us. Love how you break it down in ways that allow you to use these techniques without killing the voice.
I first watched this video of yours years ago and I often think of it while listening to Thom Yorke vocals. Your knowledge of the wide spectrum of sound I'm the human voice and your skill in identifying the individual characteristics is incredible! AND you're an awesome teacher- conveying and demystifying the vocalizations of some of the most fascinating singers. Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge! ❤
The way that you really give your whole heart and really make yourself vulnerable in this videos is courageous as hell and SO helpful. You are a person who is really living your way into your potential. MUCH respect. I am learning a lot about singing but a lot about being your whole self as well. Great stuff.
Dude. This is such a galactic crush. Connecting real good with your metaphorical instruction. This particular one shows unreal incisiveness. The thematic "my pretty" trick is baller af. Thanks man!!!!!!!
This is the best video of vocal teatching i've ever seen in my life (and i've seen a lot), you made me discover an area of my voice that i thought i could not reach, not even in the next years of studying!!! i love radiohead and thom yorke too, so that was amazing!
Thank you so much! I mean it. I've loved Thom Yorke since the first time I listened to a Radiohead song and I could never understand what was so amazing about his style or why he was so unique. This is the first video that actually helps me understand his genious, uniqueness and skill. You are an amazing singer and teacher btw
Brilliant video! Great explanation particularly of Everything in Its Right Place. It never seemed like straight falsetto, but couldn’t figure out the mechanics of what he was doing. Thank you!
“voices in my head” starts to transition into Korn’s Jonathan Davis as you exaggerate it especially the bright tone. Your next example definitely has some Beck in it. I can hear (going back to Axl vs Bellamy) what you mean about how looking at one singer can help you understand another!
Thanks! And thanks to you for this channel, Chris :). Your analysis and observations are so insightful and your passion is infectious. My new favourite channel!
They are both amongst my favourite singers, and there is definitely something in their vocal approach that is similar sometimes. They're probably from the same coven hahahahaha.
I'm so grateful i found this ! Would love to see more Thom stuffs from you ! You're such an amazing person and a great teacher Thank you so much for sharing this awesome knowledge !!
That lesson suits. I‘m working on my version of high and dry and you‘re posting this video right now, which is great. All for free!!! Thank you very much for your time to teach us. 👍
Makes perfect sense. I wish I had a trained voice like this. for some people this comes more naturally than others. It's very frustrating though trying to get this when it's not coming out with a similar tonal clarity. this is something I've always wanted & never achieved on my own. I can keep pitch & hav always been able to do that but I can't get vibrato no mater how many times I've tryed... I put my daughter in vocal lessons & in one year she has this beautiful vibrato and an iconic voice. I believe people's vocal anatomy determines wether or not they will be a good vocalist. Sadly I'm beginning to accept that that could well be the case for me which us disheartening because I'm passionate about music...
Eres el mejor maestro de canto que he visto, de verdad me siento tan contenta de que alguien como tú existas. You're the best teacher that I've ever seen, I'm so happy someone like you exists!
Here you have my suggestions for the next clip: Stevie Wonder Kurt Cobain Robert Plant Ozzy Osbourne Jim Morrison Frank Sinatra Ray Charles Bruce Dickinson Rob Harford James Hetfield
Thank you so much for this. This was a great analysis of one of my all time favorite singers and you nailed it . It also did a great job of showcasing your vocals as well. In your full chest voice I got a Sinatra / Harry connick Jr / Bublé vibe and I thought it'd be a great video to analyse the crooners and that style of singing.
Any click in a random point of this video gives me the impression you got completely carried away and I love it!!! That's what happens to Thom in every live song:-).
amazing teaching, but also vocalist videos are now the funniest thing ive ever watched, ive been crying of laughter over "IM HOLDING BACK SO MUCH AIR" for the past 5 minutes
I really appreciate your work, you're awesome. Because of you I sing and scream better and better and better and my biggest dream seem to come true. Best teacher ever!
This was such a great video, because I love Thom's voice! You're the first vocal coach I've found that has helped me to unlock parts of my voice that I had no idea existed. The first that I watched of this series was when you analysed Jeff Buckley, and that made so many connections for me vocally that built more confidence in my sound. Your lessons have also been a tremendous help for voice acting, as I enjoy doing a large range of characters and sounds, and your videos contribute to that as well. You also have such a confident, yet laid back approach that allows you to do things like the wicked witch, or a crazy clown on camera without breaking. Have you ever done, or thought about doing voice acting?! Also, I would love to see you do a video on Glen Hansard! I've watched Once so many times, and the music from that movie was a big influence on my interest in singing. From The Frames, to The Swell Season, to his solo albums, that man is a legend! Glen is just as awesome live too! Thank you Chris for everything you do, you have some of the best content on RUclips! You're helping so many people find confidence in their voice so that they may feel a little closer to achieving their dreams! Keep up the great work; I'm excited to see what you roll out with next! :>)
What an incredible analysis. Your voice demonstrations of what could be if we do things slightly different really clarifies a lot. Great voice, great video. I'm subscribing now!
Great video! But now I can't stop repeating "I'll get you my pretty" :P Can you make a video about Doug Pinnick? I think he has a really interesting voice... Greetings from Argentina
Hey, Chris! Thank you very much for all the great content, I've learned so much. I found out about you before 3 months. I took seriously singing and i started training my voice, alone, just from youtube videos. You were the one that helped me let my voice free to hit the hight notes effortlessly. Im not saying that im perfect but i know what im doing, when im at home. Yesterday i had a gig, just me and my guitar and i played 2 hours. Before the gig i sang 3 hours at home and everything was fine. When i went for the sound check i started panicking because i couldnt hear myself clearly(I didnt have a stage monitor just the sound from the speakers). I started pushing harder to hit the high notes and got tired. Can you make a video on live singing? What to do before the performance and on stage. Again, thank you very much 😊
Amazing thank you! Loved how you ended the video with the crescendo in Creep! Would have loved to hear the opening line in Paranoid Android- that one is tricky.I can’t wait to apply this knowledge and your next video👍
Another great video. Your channel is teaching me so much about making noise and exploring my voice, it's great. Totally bonkers and great. Would love to see a video on Marcus King - whenever I try to sing him it just seems to hurt and climb up towards falsetto. He seems to sing low and high simultaneously. Maybe you can figure it out. Rita is Gone is a good example to start with.
Can you please make another video about Thom Yorke? But this time a quick analysing of the vocal lines on In Rainbowns album ? XD By the way thanks for the video! You have be helping me a lot improving my singing!♥️
I didnt even watch the whole video and instaclicked like. Thanks for all those free lessons for everyone of us who try not to sound like a dying whale.
Would love to see a video about hot to sing like Bert McCracken from The Used, specifically his really high screams like when he accompanied MCR in the live version of You Know What they Do to Guys Like Us in Prison?
Chris UNCHAINED MELODY has everything you are teaching vibrato mixed voice breaking up and down I WISHED YOU WOULD DO A TUTORIAL WITH THAT SONG PLEASE!!!🤓🤓🤓🤓
And I also have to thank you for providing one of my all time favorite auditory intrusive thoughts- when you really hone in on: "kihckeng screamen gucci liddle piihGGEIHY" I think it will stay with me till the day I die but at least it makes me laugh 😂😂(and I mean that in the best way possible!)
Seems like i found a new answer with this video. But still have a few another questions and can't realise what to do.. At some point, when i'm going from "chest" to "head" (or backwards) my voice doesn't breaks. It just disappears and i'm going to whisper 'till i'll make some kinda ugly head-voice sound. I guess it's not a rare trouble, maybe even you had something like this? Can you tell anything about it? p.s. Would like to see video like this about Jonathan Davis from Korn (or solo). He uses a lot of interesting tricks. Sadly i couldn't find any info about making "scat" outside jazz music (and there it's something different in comparsion with metal). The "Twist" is a bright example of it. Another song with interesting lines is the "Holding all this Lies". Also a new album "The Nothing" is great tho.
This needs a sequel of Thom Yorkes post 2000 voice
You talk too much
nasal voice
Yes yes yes POST 2000 Thom even post 2005. Please
In Rainbows ❤

Right on! Yes!! Here’s another video you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/PWILJG2wh5Q/видео.html
Nice, you are one of the greatest teachers in youtube. Really admire your channel!
Thom is one of the singers that really inspired me to sing - thank you so much for showing me the actual technique that I subtly didn't notice
I first watched this video of yours years ago and I often think of it while listening to Thom Yorke vocals. 2:45 this is my new ringtone!
Paul Mccartney and Lennon are a must! Please consider adding them to this series !
Simply put, if Thom Yorke is self though musician and vocalist, and perform on that level of mastery, he has to be a genius.
The way that you really give your whole heart and really make yourself vulnerable in this videos is courageous as hell and SO helpful. You are a person who is really living your way into your potential. MUCH respect. I am learning a lot about singing but a lot about being your whole self as well. Great stuff.

I would love another video with a gritty but smooth voice in songs like electioneering
"everRRRy thinnnng.................
I'LL GETCH YOU!

Thanks! And thanks to you for this channel, Chris :). Your analysis and observations are so insightful and your passion is infectious. My new favourite channel!
Chris Liepe can you please try a sing like or sing in the style of Steve Perry. It would be much appreciated
They are both amongst my favourite singers, and there is definitely something in their vocal approach that is similar sometimes. They're probably from the same coven hahahahaha.
Muse, Home Video and the Notwist have definitely seen this
Finally, my boy Thom!
Omg what a great video again 👏🏻
I’ve increased my range and confidence with just a couple videos of yours, thank you so much 🤍
THANK YOU AGAIN, CHRIS. Thank you so much for sharing all this. I never miss any of your videos, but this one is gonna help me a lot !
I'm so grateful i found this !
Would love to see more Thom stuffs from you !
You're such an amazing person and a great teacher
Thank you so much for sharing this awesome knowledge !!
You're very welcome!

Amaaaaaaaaazing video. Love Thom Yorke's voice. You've done pretty well! Thanks for this
Excelent video, Thom yorke is my favorite vocalist.
Suggestion: Paul Mccartney, and focusing in the way he approaches high notes

This is so funny: the sedated witch... Great stuff! Can you please do Josh Homme?
Thanks for this! I challenged myself to sing Impossible Knots and your advice helped me get it to a not-so-bad place!
nice!
This is amazing. Glad I found your vid. It's only Jan 15th and this might be the best channel I discover in 2022. Awesome!
Wow, thanks!
