The last major United States Army unit to call the airfield home was the 4th Aviation Brigade, part of the 8th Infantry Division. The 4th AVN BDE, 8th ID played a crucial role in the history of the Finthen Army Airfield. This brigade was responsible for providing vital aviation support to the division, enhancing its mobility and operational capabilities across Europe. Including deployment to Northern Iraq in 1991 in support of Provide Comfort.

I was stationed here from 1973-1974. I lived in the barracks across from the hangar (11:00) and I worked in the steepled building at the end of the street on the right hand side (12:30). I would drive a supply truck up to the back of building (13:07) to unload supplies picked up at the distribution centers. There was a motorpool to service our trucks that has since been torn down where this new building stands (13:33). These three story buildings (18:41) were quarters for the married officers and non commisioned officers whose families had accompanied them to Europe.

Thanks for the history. I could only remember what a half dozen or so buildings were in the late 80’s.
