Today, it is time to let that hope go.

    There is absolutely no reason for Astrobots to not VR and it feels like a slap in the face to PSVR2 owners that it's not in VR. I have zero interest in a flat screen Astrobot. I have been optimistic about Sony's support since launch, but I'm finally joining those that have lost faith in Sony supporting this themselves outside of paying devs like Capcom to make their games VR. And even that seems like it's going to be very far and few. With that said, Behemoth and Aliens look awesome so far

      The thing is, I would be happy if Sony paid other studios for their AAA games in VR. But they seem to think that Resident Evil Village and 4 is enough until PS6. Really shi* by Sony.

    • @patricklove7055
      @patricklove7055 5 месяцев назад

      The reason is down to money. Development costs for games have gone through the roof in recent years to the point the industry could actually collapse. The average development time for games went from 2 years last gen to 5 years this gen. Cost to make games has become so high that anything not wildly successful can sink a studio. Which is why so many studios are going for live service games as they can bring in money for years instead of a burst of income when a game launches. Sony looked at the data of how many people are actually playing their VR headset and decided a 2% increase in sales wasn’t worth the months of extra development time Astrobot would need to be a VR game. Before anyone asks I am basing the number off of the player statistics of the recent RE4 remake as only 1.5 % of people who own the game have played it in VR. The gaming industry is just too fragile right now not to make as much money as possible and VR simply isn’t a money maker.

    • @Oblivion486
      @Oblivion486 5 месяцев назад

      @patricklove7055 I'm definitely fully aware the decision was based on money. I'm just saying that this proves to myself that Sony isn't going to support this headset themselves. So I'm personally no longer going to be optimistic about them

    AstroBot is the final nail in the coffin, first Insomniac now Asobi, all VR-enthusiast studios have been forced away from developing VR, not even allowed to do minor game modes. We can 100% forget about Alyx and future 1st party support, I bet even the Call of the Mountain studio is doing live service now, so much for that Hybrid initiative when their VR mascot champion couldn't even get any VR support. Whatever plans you heard all those years ago about hybrids was clearly discarded not long after you heard them.
    After letting camoflaj get aquired and letting Firewall's studio shut down, plus all of this, it's time we finally accept defeat and support/spotlight those who actually care for VR.

      Sony can subsidize the losses quite easily like they're trying to do now with live service games covering for their single player ones, I'm sure PSVR1 games weren't exactly making great profits either. These devs were forced cause given the freedom they would've at least chosen secondary VR modes/hybrids.

      Console VR can work with wireless/streaming and different/cheaper headset models for different customers. Meta's PC streaming works flawlessly, that eliminates the wires, and having a cheaper model lowers the barrier to entry. • @Alex_Logan22
      @Alex_Logan22 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@SB-ln6kb
      Most of Meta’s losses are in Metaverse developments not gaming, which are long term investments intended to lose money for a decade or more to establish Web 3.0, we cannot gauge their gaming success off of overall profits. Gaming investments are pretty reserved compared to Xbox spending nearly 80 billion for a failed GamePass, which is probably more than all of Meta’s investments combined let alone just gaming.
      The investments Sony puts towards lesser things like accessibility in their games shows they have no excuse for the bare minimum hybrids, something as basic as the Unreal mod is all people really need to help sell plenty of units. PC is a cost-prohibitive platform for console gamers to get into, the adapter won’t help as much.

      @@SB-ln6kb You are right...but still yet....i could not imagine they would develop an Astrobot game for years only for PS5. This has nothing to do how well or bad PSVR2 launched last year....they simply never considered it. Seemed to be unlikley and brutal just as you say. When it comes to PS5 Support you have mentioned one important thing.
      The PSSR Superresolution feature is the main thing boosting the performance, because the hardware itself is not that much stronger against the PS5 compared to what PS4 PRO vs PS4 has been.
      It is all over the Foveated Eyetracking Rendering problem again. PSSR needs to be compatible with the game engines, it needs support from Sony to be implemented..it needs an additional coder doing the job. All those things that lead to the situation many Devs never touched Foveated Eyetracking Rendering for PSVR2 in the first place.
      And now in combination with PSSR there is an additonal step to do. It becomes less likely in my eyes to see it or even both features (Dyn FOV + PSSR) at the same time. Pure Raw Power would have been much easier to access.
      So considering that indie Devs (which most VR-Developers are more or less) dont have the $$$ to do that, i do not see it becoming a much better VR-Plattform compared to the PS5 itself.
      And about GT7 - well that is Sony choice :) And from now on i trust more any low budget Indie-Dev to do the job, but not Sony. Im done with them and very angry.

Studios close left and right and projects get cancelled, and I seriously doubt that Astrobot sells VR2 at its current price point, and its also too expensive to just serve as a bundled incentive for the hardware. VR2 has a rough time convincing people to buy it, much more than its predecessor and Sony cant spend many millions keeping it alive. Hen and egg, I reckon, but its not 2016 anymore where VR was really moving up.

  • @Freeter2k
    @Freeter2k 5 месяцев назад

    I'll present a possible alternate scenario: the game isn't marketed as a hybrid to maximize flat adopter sales, but is actually compatible with the VR2. Main campaign is identical to flat with one bonus: the hidden level chameleons return and can only be found through VR, which will unlock eight exclusive VR-centric levels (one per world) with gameplay similar to Rescue Mission.
    It's unlikely to happen, but it's probably the biggest bone they could throw our way. Regardless, the negative precedent set by today's event has pretty much sealed VR2's fate, which is a shame because the two offerings were light years better than the godawful derivative corporate mandated slop that was Concord.
    Here's hoping Aliens lives up to the hype, and if it does, Bryan better stick it hard to Sony in his review. Please don't let this be another Stride Fates disaster.
