That breaks my heart, we cooked stew, bread and soup on that range and dried our shoes on the bottom oven. Socks drying on the top. We chopoed wood to fuel it, pine cones as fire lighters.
So wasteful it just screams why if it needed repairs or parts they are still available. Some one could have just stored it for those who would want ii t and love it. I so agree with you heartbreaking 24:48
Oh my! What a treasure Trove! I would so collect any small pieces of pottery and glass you find then make “ stepping stones” using cement then inlaying on top and levelling the multitude of pieces on top!
It's not because of you guys. Y T are the reason. They unsubscribe people for no reason AND also want people to pay to watch during a world wide recession. But we faithfulls will sustain ye. The nature shots with the music was exquisite. Just what I needed 😊xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤
I've seen every episode, some more than once. So, I've definitely seen that before. Loved the Travel Vlog, and hearing you talk about how it feels to be away and return back to your island paradise in the previous episode, as well. Thank you, as always.
At least a display box. Treasure hunting is big on you tube. You could do a little archaeology dig “treasure hunt” on your episodes and show a little craft made out oh it. Whoo hoo!
Did you hear the report that the alter stone at Stonehenge did not come from Wales, as they originally thought, but from northeastern Scotland? Scientists have decided that the builders of Stonehenge had a much larger cooperative community to make Stonehenge possible. If it seemed impossible to get that huge stone all the way from Wales to the Salisbury Plain, imagine how much more of a production it would be to get it from North Eastern Scotland! It boggles the mind!
Well, some of us have been with you from the beginning and intend to stay. No idea why viewers would drop off. To each his own I suppose, but High in the Rockies loves your productions.
Evening I just thought I’d let you know how much I love watching your show and to tell you that UTUBE is deleting me I have to subscribe again every time I watch your videos I had to resubscribe again tonight they are seemingly doing it to loads of channels on here I think you can have a word with UTUBE 😊😊
Just love watching you both and of course the sheep and cats 🐈 😻 😅 it cheers me up as have a lovely large family but live away soo don't get to see them but we all catch-up on video calls 😀 keep up the good work and please wear a mask when sanding 😢 ❤❤ XX
My husband and I enjoy your videos so much! We have to check every single time to make sure we are still subscribed. The last several episodes we were unsubscribed each time. We have made a habit of checking all our subscriptions because so many are unsubscribed off and on. So to all your viewers please check to make sure The Scottish Isle is not unsubscribed!
Hello Katie and Scott, interesting video today. Kind of us scavenger hunt in a sense. You just never know what you're going to find. Good luck Katie with refinishing that door. Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I can see you though that it's going to come out quite nice when done. Looking forward to your next video.
For sanding old paint and varnish off doors try a belt sander and use a rubber cleaning pad occasionally on the belt to help clean off the built up residue and helping the sanding belts last longer. Then use the orbital sander with finer grit paper to finish it off.
Years ago I bought brand new, a similar but basic style of fibreglass canoe. It had tape along the side seams all the way around, from new. The tape was purely decorative to cover up the seam purely for neatness, as the canoe was made of a top half and a bottom half moulding in two pieces.
I wish I’d seen this earlier. Oven cleaner is miraculous to remove unknown finishes. Spray it on, wait, then use your tool to remove it. Then a light spray to neutralize, and a scrappy pad…and Bob’s your uncle..
Thanks for taking us out to the midden again. Although they're eyesores, they're also places that tell us how our ancestors lived. Scott, there are people who make jewelry out of the tiny broken bits of pottery you found there. If you save them, you could pass them on to be repurposed, and maybe even make a little profit. Have a lovely week!
I've been here from the beginning and enjoyed every episode 😊 I had to smile at the broken pottery as there is a channel where a Mother and daughter search for similar to make jewelry and would love what you showed and also seen crafters spending ages trying to achieve the chippy worn paint look on your door that you are sanding off ! 😊❤
I'm sorry you have lost subscribers. I happen to love your channel! I love your simple, laid back way of life. I strive to live like you. Thank you for continuing to share your lives with us.
As usual I have enjoyed your vlog. You show the beauty, you give facts and history, and you also show the realistic side of how difficult your work is there. You are true pioneers.
I frequently check that I’m still subscribed. RUclips has unsubscribed me many times. I definitely remember that beautiful old stove! It’s nice to see it survived the year! Finding some ambergris would be so cool! I will look for it from now on! Your new camera captures the incredible beauty of your isle! It’s breathtaking!!!
Hi! You haven't lost me! Helen from Scotland. I have been from the vert start too. I love the colour of the flower and the close up of the water going back on forward over the wet stone. I could feel your arms drain of power just watching your hard work Kate. ❤
I'm with you both.. the rock builds in themselves make me spellbound.. Thank you for more exploring.. A Fan ❤❤ PS love the way Kitty and Shawna are attached little house pets 😅
Thank-you for the videos, I enjoy each one. Minute 17 shows Katie struggling with a small sander and an old door, I think carbide scrapers do a good job. You need lots of elbow grease but they are effective.
I haven’t been here from the beginning but i am so glad I’ve subscribed! The peacefulness and the beauty of nature is a soothing balm to the soul. I love seeing the sheep and the cat. I’m sure I’m not the only viewer who watches and would love to visit for a bit. I’d pet the cat, the sheep, and I’d do a lot of knitting. Maybe help out by doing woodworking and restoration.
Love your channel and your adventures! I saw seep eating seaweed on another channel by Hamish Auskerry on the island of Auskerry, Orkney. They are North Ronaldsay sheep and seaweed is a large part of their diet. Thought you might find that fun. All the best and keep up the great work!
I'm so relieved to see you wearing a mask when the work you are doing produces dust. In addition, I am concerned about the possibility of the paint containg lead. I live you two, and I'm concerned for you. Can you do the sanding outside?❤
Absolutely loved this - if only the land could talk what tales it would tell. I remember when you showed rhe remains of the range in an early episode. Love learning the history of your island. Been with you from the start. THANKYOU, 🐏🐑🐑🐈⬛🐈⬛
I am happy to see that you got the dense foam boarding for under the flagstones. With a thin layer of setcrete on top to place your flagstones will make make a world of difference in keeping the floor from radiating cold and moisture into the room. Are you going to place some sand or chip stone underneath for leveling? It's to bad you do not have enough space to place a few loops of pex pipe for radiant heat , that would be the "cats meow" for your cottage. I noted you where using an orbital sander to work on your door, it takes quite a while to do it that way and a lot of arm work which can be quite tiring. . If you are able to , obtain a small belt sander 3 x 24 inch or roughly 8 x 60 cm would do the job very quickly by using a 60 grit belt . This size is big enough to handle the job efficiently but not large enough to drag you around and you can control fairly easily. You do not have to put any pressure down just guide the sander around ( be careful not to linger in any spot too long as it will carve a groove) but it will cut your time considerably, smooth down any large nicks or deep scratches nicely. It is also a very handy tool to have if you want to clean up old boards that you may want for the odd project or redoing table tops. You can then finish off with the orbital sander for a very nice surface finish. I also see that you can do a bit of mudlarking out your front door , neat.... thank you for views of your island and showing us your projects, and ....no ......your videos are not repetitive, they are interesting scenes of day to day living in a serene environment and comments on life that many people like myself enjoy.
We'll put lime-crete down to lay the flags on top on, lime-crete is also very insulative in itself, so we should have dry toasty feet, especially when the stones are warmed up with the heat of the fire and can do their job to trap and radiate heat. We did consider underfloor heating connected to a woodburning stove, but because the rooms are so small, the stove itself will warm up the room like you wouldn't believe, so there's not much point bothering with underfloor. We'll get some very good stoves and lots of loft insulation. Sorted! Thank you for your advice and for watching. Kx

The 2-person kayak would potentially make a cute wildflower garden 💐 🌹 🌸 🏵 🌼
All the broken pottery is crying out to be used in a mosaic project! :)
I had the same thought. A tabletop perhaps, with clear acrylic pour on top.

Try wire wool and paint stripper prior to sanding . We have renovated using this technique when the paint is stubborn .
So interesting.❤ Ive got a wee homestead in the Scottish Highlands. Following along

Ref the canoe find, a fibre glass kit could repair it to good as new
That duct tape is for protection from shafing from the paddle, it is common used.
I would restore that kayak and sell it.
Agreed - it's a fiberglass kayak so if repairs were needed they're simple to do too

Thank you for sharing
Wee.Katie just take the door outside and paint on paint stripper come back to it an hour or so and scrape it off. Xx
You can't beat a good wall love from Yorkshire ❤
On our islands they ran boundary walls like that out into the water to keep the different bunches of grazing sheep from mixing up with each other.
Good point! Kx
Your conversation about Ambergris had me laughing my head off. Best comedy I've ever seen from you two. 😂👏👏👏👏
How beautiful. Such a lovely time of the year.
Id take the kayak, cut the seats out, paint it, and make a flower planter 😊🎉
OMG, opening sequence I thought I was watching an episode of Last of the Summer Wine 😂😂😂 love you guys!!
Distant shot with up close mic sound ...brilliant!
Use the broken pottery to make jewelry. A bit of broken pottery in a necklace from The Scottish Isle. I’d buy one.
Love the pottery pieces. You two are great. Wish I was there to mudlark your beach.
