THANK YOU!! Finally someone who understands that painting a tote Black is the silliest thing you can do !! It doesnt reflect sunlight its absorbs it !!
Your video inspired me. I used Loctite spray can of heat and water resistant glue like 3M weatherstrip to hold plain old aluminum foil which blocks 100 percent of sunlight.
Cost is a big reason why. Its takes a quart to cover it and then the acetone. Youll soend $20 to coat one tank. If you have 16 like me thats a significant cost. I have tanks exposed to the SE Arizona sun that still have good black plastic 3 years on. But im redoing my tank with a better idea: Synthetic roof felt. You can wrap it for less than a dollar and then coat it with elastomeric paint that costs $75 for 5 gallons. It cuts out the light apmost as good as black plastic but can stay nice and pliable for years.
Flaking off after two years is not very desirable. I painted mine some year and a half ago with Aqua Blue because that was the left over paint. I did apply a good coat of undercoat before I spayed painted it with exterior paint. I see no visible flaking off. But I have to be careful not to scratch the paint as paint doesn't adhere to IBC plastic very well at all.
I looked at your other videos on your Channel to see if I could find a video on this topic and so far I haven't seen one. How do you keep the tote of water from freezing during the winter? I want to be able to hook something up so I have water in my currently dry cabin.
Really appreciate the clear and concise explanation sir, thank you. Would you say the metal wrapped tanks would be the better choice, assuming price is acceptable? (I can get them for 50 bucks more)

But the algae requires light to function..not heat! So it can absorb all the light it likes but none is getting through.
but he thinks, painting is better option. :)

yes BUT what was in it? I have never seen a food grade IBC tote "Metal Wrapped".
how much paint does it take per container? I dont want to buy a gallon and let the rest sit for nothing
a quart does about 1.5 coats on one tote.
Would it be easier to take it out the crate for painting
I have done it both ways. Pulling them out takes longer (for me) and paint scraps off when putting back in the cage. Thanks for watching
Do you paint the bottom?
Yes when light comes up from the ground. 🤣😂🤣
I don't but I push the brush under the tank a little. Paint any where the sun can get.
Oil based?
