Scaffolding is a teaching method and educational concept that involves providing support to students as they learn new concepts. The support is gradually removed as students become more proficient, allowing them to become independent learners. This concept is similar to physical scaffolding used in construction, which helps support structures until they can stand on their own. The term "scaffolding" was first introduced by Jerome Bruner, a psychologist, in the 1960s. The concept is closely tied to the theory of the zone of proximal development, which was developed by the psychologist Lev Vygotsky.
