Fond memories of the old port and the 4 years I worked as a crew member on the Chartres, Gotland, Versailles, Champs Elysees and Prince Laurent... thank you
A lot of these photo's bring back many memories of the late 80's and early 90's , when I was driving for P&O Ferrymasters on French routes. We shipped a lot out of Newhaven. The 2 main ships were the Parisienne and the Londoner. Stenna , the shipping line then, used to give us points on our boarding pass and you could collect Stenna jackets and other merchandise. Happy days.
This is great. Reminds me of summer holidays in the 1960s and 70s. I remember the Villandry and Valençay, plus the Falaise, that was replaced with the seemingly enormous Senlac. I always loved looking around Dieppe before the trip home. Happy days.
Truely wonderful picture of days that seem better than they probably we're. Hopefully normal European travel is possible next year. I have not Bern on a Gerry for years
The first ferry shown was called the SENLAC. It looks exactly the same as a Sealink ferry that used to operate the Holyhead- Dun Laoghaire Irish route during the 80s. The ship on that run was the St. Columba. My family and I travelled on her every year over a period of around 15 years. Is it the same ship? Another one on the Fishguard - Rosslare run in 1980 was the Stena Normandica. This was an absolutely massive ferry/ship! Where are the Columba and the Normandica now?
Wow reconise some of the early ones, The Senlac,Valancey, her sister ship the Valandray the Captain le goff carred lorry and a few photo of the meeching tug
Fascinating selection of photographs, thanks for sharing.

Valençay's sister Villandry operated with Senlac, Chartres came later on.
