Teej was always a very interesting festival. growing up as a Newar, no one in our community really celebrated Teej but nowadays suddenly everyone wants to go to "darr" parties. I find how Nepali women have interpreted Teej very interesting. it's like a big "fuck you" to Brahminical patriarchy. it's funny because suddenly when all these women are dancing and having fun, "holy" festival ko apaman bhayo re. challenging Brahmin practices should be the norm. if these festivals don't liberate you, liberate yourself. 😉. 🇳🇵

It's a completely different issue and very layered. That guy just had to bear the anger that the Newars had piled up due to other people. Newars are generally protective about their culture which stems from how insecure they feel about their culture being threatened in Kathmandu. I've said this before, Apoorva probably thought he would get a pass cause he grew up around Newars but that will never happen. It's a very complex subject. I personally believe that he wasn't respectful either. There are many people like him (that we Newars meet every other day) who love our culture but don't like us. Long way to go
