  • Learning to fish the Coronado Islands of Mexico - I got into some white seabass and plenty of calico bass. A beautiful day fishing the islands casting swimbaits and surface irons.

    Funny how many people questioning size, with clearly the implication that they are more responsible and would do it better. How about enjoy the content and leave your opinions at the door? Really like the videos, good see good content coming from close to home, hope to see you out on the water.

    Awesome fishing video. What size boat is that? I just bought a Boston Whaler 17 and am hoping to get out there this summer....I will however pick my days carefully. Thx

      This is a 17’ Outrage. The outrage has a V hull so getting out to the islands is not too bad for us. I see skiffs out there all the time. As long as it’s reliable you’ll be fine.

      @@honeyhole Thank you for feedback. I have 22 gallon tank with a Yamaha 70 HP 4 stroke (also 4 HP kicker motor for emergency). How much fuel do you think it'll take to get out there. "'ll take an extra 10 gallons of fuel. Again thank you. I know the answer varies upon boat and size of engine.

      @@alanmckenzie3228 I have never used over 19 gallons at the island. That’s launching from mission bay and with a 115hp. You should be fine but I would get a better idea on your gas burn before you fully send it.

      @@honeyhole Thank you. When I fish all day at La Jolla Cove, I barely burn between 4-5 gallons of fuel.

    Gaffs the fish......its a keeper!

  • @ultimatejay
    @ultimatejay 4 года назад +6

    Nice vid, one recommendation- if the fish looks close to size limit like the first seabass then you might want to net it and measure it instead of gaffing it because if it’s short then you just killed a undersized fish.

      The rod is a 7' Aerial 12-20lb, Reel is a Penn Battle 2 size 4000 spooled with 30lb power pro and a 20 lb fluro leader. 1.5 oz swimbait jighead and 5" paddle tail.

    Thanks for sharing. Who needs bait? haha
    I like that swimbait, what brand is that?

    • @honeyhole
      @honeyhole  4 года назад +1

      We sure haven't, all our decent fish have been coming on artificial baits. I'll have to check on which brand of swimbait that yellow/white paddle tail is but i have been having a lot of luck with 5"-7" paddle tails in light colors.

      @@honeyhole I meant the long one white/green/orange. Mimics a squid a little bit. I have not seen one like that, at least where I shop. And you said you're retrieving it low and slow, bumping the bottom, or middle of water column? Thanks again!

    • @honeyhole
      @honeyhole  4 года назад +1

      @@100-AcreWoods Oh yeah i like that bait too, i got it at Seaforth. I usually start out slow if there is no apparent bite, like boiling fish or birds working. ill throw it a few times at the top of the water column and then work my way down the column by varying the time i let the jig sit before retrieving it. When in doubt I just bump it off the bottom like you said and work my way up from there.
