Morrowind..........back when Bethesda games had really deep lore that immersed you in the universe, otherworldly landscapes that took your breath away, and music that soothed the soul while exploring or relaxing at a tavern. OG writing team's gone now, Starfield POI were literally copied/pasted across star systems down to the locations of enemy/weapon spawns and corpses, and Jeremy Soule got PNGed by Bethesda. Really worried about the future of Elder Scrolls 6.
Yeah. I know that my view and enjoyment of videogames has changed since I first played Morrowind back at its release, and I loved Oblivion and Skyrim... but I have very low expectations of Starfield given Bethesda's latest releases. It seems like it will really be a challenge to enjoy it if they dumb it down even more than Skyrim.
Nothing, absolutely nothing beats Morrowind soundtrack. How is it even possible that people were this skilled back then and all of it is just lost by now?
Ah, yes, we've been expecting you. Now, you'll have to be recorded before you're officially released. There are a few ways we can do this, and the choice is yours. *answer his questions (generates class) *give him the info (pick from class list) *fill out the forms (creates custom class)
I was introduced to the Elder Scrolls by pure happenstance. I was cleaning out my closet, and came across a CD that came with my video card. I was about to toss it, but noticed, "hey, on the cover there's what looks like a dark elf wearing some funky orange armor. Might be worth installing...". As great as Skyrim is, Morrowind is my first love. The weird but well-developed geo-political situation and mytho-religious history of the Dunmer, the giant mushrooms and flying jellyfish; this is a fantasy you can immerse yourself in like few others. Completing quests and finding exotic locations and artifacts felt like accomplishments in Morrowind. I hope to see a Morrowind-style hard-core mode in the next Elder Scrolls that dispenses with quest targets.
My Xbox One S just stopped working yesterday after 8 years of playing. I started playing Morrowind on Original Xbox. I was almost level 50 on Skyrim. I can't believe I made so many characters since 11/11/11 and all of them were lost due to memory corruption or me accidentally resetting my Xbox way too much I love Elder Scrolls:]
My first character was a Dunmer because they had red eyes and dark skin like Drow. He had combat magic and two handed weapon mastery. It didn't occur to me that you needed your hands free to cast magic, so his major level gaining skills were mutually exclusive

I started on BGS games with Oblivion. That too has my eternal love, but this... Despite going back in time to what some might call an outdated, clunky game, nothing has ever instilled in me such a feeling of magic and wonder as Morrowind. I always find myself going back, time and time again. "Ah, yes... We've been expecting you."
The transition between morrowind and oblivion is when most of the quality of life stuff happened but also the removed certain elements from the later games such as the levitate spell effect.
For me it was because Morrowind got the world building perfectly right. It was familiar fantasy in some ways yet had so many interesting locations and history the more you explored. Giant mushrooms, warring houses and tribes, Silt Striders, religion, prophecy, intriguing factions, vampires, a volcano ... take your pick. Smashing Dagoth Ur into lava with my orc's giant warhammer before destroying the Heart of Lorkhan to prevent the Numidium from being used ... those were epic, epic times.
Mine also. Despite the crappy graphics and frustrating combat, this game is a masterpiece. One of the last games of it's kind that don't hold your hand, the game makes you work to find NPC's and locations which at times can feel like a quest within a quest. No other game makes you feel like a rodent at the beginning and a living God by the end of it quite like this one. Even now, many years and multiple play throughs later, I'm still finding amazing loot I had never stumbled across before. (I've always avoided videos showing where to find the best stuff)
Old Bethesda IS the new Bethesda - Hell, they're STILL using the same fucking engine. What you miss is Michael Kirkbride, the writer for Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. The man is a genius.
@@NostraDavid2 2 out of 3 isnt bad. Oblivion though is where the mediocrity crept in. Bethesda writing and world building lost its flair in favour of "cool" mass market game design. I might be wrong but I hear Kirkbride had a different vision for Oblivion but gave up when Todd came in after having seen Lord of the Rings and wanted big changes.
actually, meshes and objects as in original game, while water, textures and lighting were improved by the overhaul mods :) I'm Morrowind's fan since these 20 years ago, when the game was released

Shit's been patched for years now and it's *still* got a host of glitches, exploits, and generally questionable, inscrutable design choices. Like... that's half the charm of the goddamn game, even!
