    I agree. Fantastic game. I enjoyed the original and this edition just blows it out of the water. One of my favourites from last year. Good review, Tom.

    My favorite game of 2019. I highly suggest adding chronicle 6 (better landmarks with extra abilities) into the game asap, I never play without it. The rest are great, I also love playing with the mountain, haggis, and whisky barrels.

    This game is back on Kickstarter, and I almost let it slip passed me...until I saw this video. Now it is a definite back! I like all the various mechanisms they incorporated into the game without making it overly complex.

    No denying this is an excellent game. It’s just obvious.

    I only played once at bggcon but I found that losing points based on how much bigger your grid was than the smallest player to be a real bummer. The player with the smallest had been collecting the 'people' tiles the whole game - so he got all the benefits from the side board, scored loads of points for having the most people tiles, but then had a tiny kingdom because people tiles don't go into it; they go off to the side. Maybe the effect of this is minimized once everyone is experienced with the rules but it was a rocky first impression.

    • @bullfrogggy4401
      @bullfrogggy4401 5 лет назад +1

      yeah got about 8 games so far and I also feel that people tiles are stronger than regular tiles. However the beauty in this game is that the core mechanic of this game balances itself. All the players have to decide how much a tile is worth based on how much tiles is it worth "overjumping" to such a tile.

    Would love a head to head between the original and this one. I’ve heard they’re actually quite different, with some people preferring the original (components, aside).

    • @Mark-jagger
      @Mark-jagger 5 лет назад +4

      They’re not completely different. The side clan board is new and a nice added twist to the game but the core game is reasonably similar. I had the original for years, before trading it, and enjoyed it quite a lot. However, I love the new edition, even just for the base game without chronicles.

    • @moritzalexander1354
      @moritzalexander1354 5 лет назад +1

      the side board and personalty are no in the old game, therefore it plays faster, and it's less complicated, quicker to learn and play.
      Also the old version goes up to 5 players, the new one only up to 4.
      Old one also has a street (not only river, street goes vertical), but no overbuild tiles.
      So overall the old version needs less time, less space, less rules while having similar deepness (compared to base game in new Version)

      @@moritzalexander1354 I just discovered Glen More, but up here in Canada, Amazon.ca is the only source for the original and it goes for between $240 and $420 CA. This version is $73 CA. I do like the roads though. I'll make the original and use the components of this one.

      Without a doubt for me. I owned the original but this one is an incredible upgrade in every way. Highly recommended

      There is new stuff in this version, but for me, the deal breaker was having to store a box that was literally 4x larger than the original, so I sold my copy and kept the original.

      I love the original and I’m content with. Surprisingly, I like the compact box size too, as it’s easy to bring in a suitcase or backpack when traveling

    Best game of 2019 for me. Surprised to see a few people sold or refused to buy based on the box size! Really?! It comes with muuuuuch better art/components and has 8 mini-expansions, and you’re complaining about the box size?!?! Some folks are hard to please.

    Oh no... here comes the FOMO anxiety from not backing this on KS... Were there a lot of KS exclusive stuff for this or could one go for the retail version? Gah... come on, get a second printing with all the KS shenanigans out for another swing! 😝

    • @steffenruehl2201
      @steffenruehl2201 5 лет назад +2

      There's nothing from KS that you are not able to get at retail, if retailer stock it.

  • @MurrRockstroh
    @MurrRockstroh 5 лет назад +3

    "Maybe the box is a little too big" is a bit of an understatement. You can fit 4 of the original copies of the game inside the new one. When I received it, that was an automatic pass for me (I sold it). I'll stick with the original version and it's compact size over this unnecessarily over produced behemoth.

    • @c.w.2000
      @c.w.2000 5 лет назад

      Murr Rockstroh Well, that's an issue with Kickstarter games. People want something special; I'm quite sure a straight reprint wouldn't have funded. Compared to Eagle-Gryphon games, though, it's not too bad, and it's half the price. For those who don't have the original, it looks pretty good, and if I really didn't have room, I would ditch the box and the boxes for the chronicles.

    • @joelbergvonlinde1389
      @joelbergvonlinde1389 5 лет назад +6

      You would prefer a box that wasn’t big enough to hold all the stuff? 😛.
      I have both (had the first ed since 2010). The old one is good, the new one is superior

    • @fingolfinfinwe
      @fingolfinfinwe 4 года назад +1

      Lol, it's not THAT big. Fits nicely in a Kallax cube with plenty of room to spare (2x TTR size + boxes can fit with it). Sure it could be smaller, but I'd rather have the great components and all the chronicles included. This complaint is overblown.

  • @wonderlight3000
    @wonderlight3000 5 лет назад

    They somehow really messed up the clan markers. Such a huge difference to all the other overproduced components.

  • @JosephFlemming
    @JosephFlemming 5 лет назад +1

    This looks cool but I'm glad I found the original small box version. The clan board does not look that interesting, and the new version removed the roads from tiles. Also scoring the meeples is different as well.

      After playing GM2 I never want to even try GM. The side board adds very little rules overhead and playing without it would make it too light IMO.

    • @MurrRockstroh
      @MurrRockstroh 5 лет назад

      You might also prefer the size of the first, it's 25% of the size of this new one.

      The first one is by no means a bad game, just because there is a newer shiny version with more stuff out. Personally i love Giant Boxes, they put me into the mood like "that's the thing that we are going to best today", haha. So, i don't think it's a "must upgrade" situation.
