It's rare that I see a demake mod list that's so convincing with so little. The polygon counts are still too high and the controls don't have that Saturn clunk, but this reminded me of the 3d sonic I was certain we were going to get in the Saturn days. Ty for this, I think it healed something for my inner child
I've honestly never felt so taken away. The imperfections - static white noise, slight pitch alterations of stage music and ring noise, and annoying repetitiveness of Sonic saying "Here we go!" with each box break doesn't sound like an oversight of today, but I can feel and I could see it being an "accepted" flaw because this would've been the first time Sonic had a voice... so it really does feel like this came out in 1998 in a separate entity of the universe than ours. Thanks for making this.
I always had this weird feeling like I wish we coulda seen a game like this just before Sonic Adventure.... JUST ONE. And I would have been satisfied. Maybe with different levels so it's not repetitive. But this does bring to like what a game, at all, like that could look like. Especially the stages that are drastically changed.
funnier yet, in this timeline the classic design would simply have slicker renders and artworks maybe just like we were shown when Uekawa tried to modernize the character
WDYM " weaker videos admittedly" !?!?! THIS LOOKS AMAZING!! it was pretty cool that you compilated all the mods and edited the whole thing, thats a lot of work too, thanks for sharing this with us
Well, when I originally uploaded this my channel was very small and I didn’t expect people to see it! I could nitpick some things like the aspect ratio not being 4:3 and the buzzing sound being too loud, but ultimately I am glad people are enjoying it! Thank you for the nice comment :)
rather unfortunately analog horror has conditioned me to hear static white noise and slightly non-standard video game content and therefore assume that it's gonna cut to black, show sonic's face and say something with the SA font like "we had some good times together, didn't we Harry?" just to be clear, it is really cool though! edit: I just heard Back in Time from Sonic R for daytime speed highway, and that fits really well for the overall subject matter xd
Tails being a fast travel system is not only really cool, but also a really nice quality of life that happens in this timeline... Makes me wonder what the other's would've had, like would Gamma just use his own rotor's to fast travel?
I cannot begin to describe how fantastically old school this looks and feels. You did a wondrous job at recreating a Sonic game that feels like it'd come out around the days of Mario 64 innovation! 😊👍
I don't think that's a bug, I always took that to be an attempt to convey that the tails were moving so fast that the in game camera wasn't able to capture a stable image but instead of doing it by creating a smear frame version of the Tails' tails (which would also need to work from multiple viewing angles) their solution was to have more of them added to his back that used the same animation but offset by a bit. I figured it was done that way due to the inexperience the team had with 3D animation, because nothing else gets smear frames, not even Sonic's feet. I'm pretty sure that the whole game was animated by making key frames and tweening between them, with a lot of stock animations being re-used multiple times, so I imagine that they didn't have a lot of time to experiment with it. They were also going for realism (at least as realistic as you could manage on your first attempt at a fully 3D game with an obligation to be the most important launch title for an entirely new console with full voice acting and 7 story campaigns with unique levels and gameplay for each) so using animation techniques associated cartoons might have felt antithetical to that goal. Sad thing is that if they'd just done what Rayman 2 did and have the helicopter effect be an animated sprite on a flat plane it would have looked far better and not been so odd.
Super cool! I will admit I like the bounce in Sonic’s step in the Real SA. But this was super rad. Loved the music references. Everything from OVA to Sonic R
@@thewindthatblowsYes this is just simplified Sonic and Tails models running in an unaltered Sonic Adventure environment. Saturn could push maybe half this many polygons running pedal to the metal as in the Shenmue demo and then still the textures wouldn’t be filtered snd as high-res.
It's crazy to think the sonic franchise could of came to an end if it wasn't for the creation of sonic adventure, this mod just makes me realise how different things could of been if sonic's design was never modernised

Sorry it bothers you so much! I never intended for this video to blow up the way it has, and it was an extremely amateur attempt at the time. I found a better balance for the buzzing sound in later videos, where you can actually barely hear it. I’ve acknowledged this issue multiple times with others in this comment section, so I understand!

This universe's version of the Sega Saturn was built different with graphics like this in assumably 1995, and the same can be said for universe's version of Tails. He doesn't even need the Tornado, he is the tornado!
Was any of the music/ sound effects used in the mods original/ fan remakes or did it all come from previous sonic projects, like the day section of speed highway having music from Sonic R (radical highway was it?) I'm curious because the music feels like it could come from things like Sonic 3D Blast (pretty sure the level clear jingle is from 3D Blast) but other than those instances I'm not too sure about specifics.
Mostly all from previous Sonic projects. I used tracks from the following: Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn), Sonic Jam, Sonic R, and the Station Square music is from Daytona USA! However, I’m unsure of some of the music present in the Sonic Adventure Saturn mod and couldn’t find a list of tracks used for it (For example, the Speed Highway segment where you’re running down the building or the Mystic Ruins theme)
Sonic R had an amazing 3D Sonic just suitable for low polygon count. I don't know how I feel about hearing Sonic's voice. I wonder how it would sound, pitched higher.

This isnt a demake. Its just using classic sonic designs. Basically the sonic equivalent of render96.

It's still using the Sonic Adventure engine. Just a mod.

Somewhere out there, this is a 5 or 6 year old's first exposure to the sonic series and say they remember seeing this as a kid 8 or 9 years from now.
The fact the mod or (whatever it is) still left the visual bug where tails has 9 tails is hilarious.
