      Hello Dr Jo, I’d like to ask you a question, please.
      I had a total right hip replacement 2 years ago and only now have I realised I wish to work on my glutes.
      Could you advise which exercise I could do safely without hurting my new hip, please?
      I have discovered you today, and have liked and subscribed.
      Greetings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🏼

    This is so helpful! When I'm doing my glutes, I only feel my right glute and never feel my left, should I do this before doing my normal workout and then do my routine after, is there anything else i can do to activate the glute? I've tried doing more reps on that side but I only feel it in my leg rather than my glute!

    I’ve had 21 surgeries in the past 7 years, most of them on my legs, ankles and knees. As you can imagine, that’s a LOT of bed rest. My glutes cave in now because I’ve lost all muscle mass in them. I can’t even hardly bend over to pick something off the floor, without struggling in my glutes to lift my body back up! This video is so helpful and I’m adding this to my every day routine to get my muscle mass back up.

    I just want to say thank you for these videos. I've had 3 pretty radical knee surgeries to repair my patella and tendon and have had to modify my exercise routines to account for nerve issues and sore spots. Your videos have really helped a lot do this. Some just to remind me how to keep good form on exercises I learned in therapy and others to help change them up. I'm probably about 95% of where I was so I'm pretty happy with that. Thank you again.

    Hey Dr Jo, thank you so much for the video. I wanted to know if you can tell which muscle is getting activated? I have piriformis syndrome and I’d been doing clamshell with resistance band and later squat walks for a while. My doctor told me they don’t activate the flutes but tighten the piriformis more. Which is very confusing for me. Could you clarify please?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  5 лет назад +4

      You're welcome. Clamshells do work the gluteus medius and maximus. And strengthening doesn't tighten muscles more, it will actually help relax them once you are consistent with them, so I'm not really sure what the doctor meant. I do have a few videos specifically for piriformis syndrome since this one is for something different.

    Trying to figure out if this is what’s wrong with me or not? Anyone else that have a history with this have their gluteus medius freak out at the end of the day after stretching out and laying down for a while? What I mean by that is: I can be up and moving around all day long, but if I lay down for 20-30 minutes, when I get back up, my gluteus medius and muscles going around into my hips start hurting like a level 13 out of 10 pain level, and the only way to make it stop hurting is to lay back down and use a electronic muscle massage tool and it still takes nearly 5 minutes to get it back to where the pain is manageable?!?!🤷‍♂️

    i’ve dealt with body image issues and bullying all my life, i just turned 20. I’ve always been super skinny and not much meat on my bones. I’ve been trying to put on muscle since April. I lift and my leg days are great! Until I start to see changes in my legs and not in my glutes. After leg day my legs are sore but my glutes are rarely sore. It is so disappointing and feels pointless to me. I feel like I’ve waisted my time doing butt workouts just to have been working nothing but my legs the whole time. From research i’ve found out i have dead butt syndrome and possibly some nerve damage. Now im just trying to stay positive and find a solution for me and my glutes.

    I know that this is old, but I was wondering if this would be safe for me with a tight pelvic floor. I have and adenomyosis and endometriosis. I also have a lot of scar tissue from 3 c- sections so I have a hard time even using the restroom both ways. My butt used to be very big and I was active until I started bloating days on end an became very uncomfortable. So I would like to start working out but not make my stomach issues worse. So I was wondering if this would affect my pelvic floor! I am only 35 and it is hard to see my body diminishing and being so miserable mentally and physically.

      You can do a little more if you want to, but I think it's fine to do equal amounts on both sides.

    As everyone else has said, these are amazing at actually isolating the glutes. I was doing similar exercises without the focus on proper positioning and not targeting my glutes at all. Thankyou a million times💚

    I love your videos. How might building strength in this area affect a person's stride?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks. If you have a short stride due to not being able to propel your leg forward far enough, strengthening should help with that. Good luck.
