- Off the success of the 42mm Air Foil, Hemel has now released a 40mm version, the Air Wing. Featuring a mechanical chronograph movement, the Seagull ST-19, this column wheel design has all the satisfying winding and click that comes with a true hand winding mechanical movement.
Available in 3 colors, black, olive and of course a popular LUME dial.

Ha. That olive's is easily my favorite of the bunch. Cool watch.
Thanks! Good to know

I just bought one of these a few days ago and admittedly still in the honeymoon phase, but this is such a great watch. 40mm is the perfect size for me, it's running about +5 which is great, 12h bezel is exactly what belongs on a 30m chronograph, even the included strap is extremely comfortable after a short break-in period, 100m water resistance is great peace of mind.. I can actually use this watch, not baby it like most chronos. I can't say enough about Hemel or the Air Wing.
Great, enjoy!
How is it now
These are good watches. I purchased the 42mm Lume dial Air Foil about 2 months ago. Love that watch!
Yes they are!
Very nice! The black is my fav. Thanks for sharing them Marc and have a great day! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you for watching.
I love that full lume dial! It looks perfect with that band.
Yeah that’s what you call a winning horse. My Christmas wishlist keeps growing.
Beautiful watches Marc, I’m do for another visit to your shop, these as most of your watches are tempting.
Glad you like them!
That’s a spiffy watch. Well done, Hemel.
Sure is!
I'm gonna say it, and say it out loud: I really like that olive dial. I like it more than the black dial!
No worries, say it!
Love them all but I think the black dial wins. Beautiful watches and the price for a mechanical chrono is impressive
Thanks David.
The touch of red on the minute sub sets the dial off. All colors are handsome. I do like the OD green. He should have made only one special Robin egg blue dial just for you...lol
For sure!
This watch is really tempting me. Only thing is i bought the Airfoil a while ago, but love the smaller size of the Air Wing...
These are some nice looking watches at an outstanding price for an automatic chronograph. My wish list just got longer.
Good choice!
so glad they went with 40! Ordering now!
Great!
Beautiful movement and very attractive watch
Thanks!
Looks good
I recognized that movement immediately 🥰
For sure
Brilliant to show how the chrono engages -- really cool! 👍
Glad you liked it!
beautiful watch and a gorgeous looking movement. I have a watch that uses the same movement but I find the winding to be very stiff. My watch has a small crown. This Hemel has a larger crown so I think that will help.
Can't beat the price for a mechanical chrono. Just wish it had a date window! Nice watch.
Thank you
That’s a really good looking watch. I’ve had great success using Scotch tape to remove the blue protective film from crowns.
Thanks for the tip.
Wish I had 500 to buy that beautiful greenish one!
:)
That lume version is beautiful !!
Cool movement!
Olive is the hands down winner 🙌
Thanks!
This guy reminds me of my really cool uncle
Nice design
Thanks a lot
I actually like the green!!!
Beautiful looking watch. Good price too.
It really is!
Mr Marck Frankel when do you think to have a partner in Europe? For sure I bet you could have some market out here in the overseas just a suggestion from a proud owner of a Islander Islander-09 plus some bracelets very satisfied customer from Europe! Know it’s almost impossible buy your watch’s , hardware etc. ! All the best from a proud owner of an Isl-09 💯 🔝
We ship worldwide.
Excellent Video!
Nice exhibition case back to see this movement. And at that price point? Mechanical Chronograph? Great offering!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
I love to see the size for a mechanical chrono with a 12h rotating bezel. (Need more of that at this price point!) Looks like it has great case finishing, and I love Hemel's design language.
The "Bi-Compax" text on the dial really ruins it for me though. Duh. It's like if I wore a shirt that said, "Biped." It's too ironic/obvious to put on something serious.
Sorry!
@@islandwatch All good, sir! It's not one of yours, you just sell them. With those specs, it's going to keep a lot of people very happy! I hope you sell-out in an hour.
I've really got no room to talk either. The ST19-based watch I *did* buy is the inexpensive Merkur FOD racing chrono, which has 12 hash marks on the 30 minute dial.... So the hand only lines up every 10 minutes! Way worse faux pas than a bit of "Captain Obvious" text on the dial.
Great looking watch,I would love to see it on a SS strap over those leather straps
Nice video again!!!
Greetings from Greece.
Thank you very much!
Great Looking watches. I have to say the black is the one for me. Is there any chance these will be included in a Black Friday sale?? Man I’m still loving that Islander with that beautiful blue waffle dial. Both are very tempting.
Well....been looking at my final, end all, Chrono purchase for a few months now...that journey seems to be at an end with this watch.
Great to hear.
Very nice looking watch. Can anyone address the reliability of the Seagull movements?
Hmm, black or lume dial. I can't decide. Beautiful watches!
Lume for me.
Oh no, Marc, 0:39 👀😂
Nice watch!
Thanks!
This one really reminds me of breguet type xx as well
But most hemels do actually
I thought the same
for sure its a nice watch....but what should be the reason to buy it?.....the retro style is done by all brands now and the movement i prefer in authentic seagull......be good
Would you ever be tempted to use the ST19 for an Islander chrono or are they too problematic?
I probably wouldn't at this point.
The olive one would be my choice.
Hello Marc, does it come with a bracelet? and if not do you think one of yours will fit?
Great video 👍👍💪❤️🔥
Mantap
Are these watches already causing problems?
I have my doubts not only with this watch, but with others that are already using the same motor with an automatic chronograph (Original from seagul). I think that the engine's life is limited to a short number of hours, you can produce cheaply with materials of dubious quality and eliminating quality standards. In just a few years the wear of the gears will render the watch useless. But hey, those are just my guesses. Great video, as usual!
Marvin is a great guy and if I were more of chrono guy, he would be getting way too much of my money, because he makes some really nice watches. That is a very reasonable price too.
Marvin is awesome
@@islandwatch I am in the "League of Watch Microbrands" which is a FB group that Marvin is very active in. The Air League Special, was picked there very similar to the one you are doing right now here on YT.
Hi Marc,
I just watched this video and was eager to see if the minute counter on the three flips over one second before the center second counter hits the twelve like on my limited edition Seagull 1962 version b. And it did! Why is that and can a watchmaker do anything to fix it? Because this drives me nuts!
Thanks for your advice in advance.
Frank S.
Thanks Marc...your thoughts this one vs the 40mm 1963?
Functionally equivalent, so I'd buy on style at that point.
Wasn't the ISL-67 one of the watches you had on the Watch Conundrum?
Yup!
Love my full lume 42 version but I actually really like that olive one! Quick question tho: does anyone know of a beads or rice style bracelet that would fit the 42mm version???
Strapsco sells one with a straight end. I have it on my Glycine Airman DC-4 and I love it.
You'd need a straight end
Pretty new to watches. I've been considering a chronograph, but had pretty much determined I wouldn't be able to afford a mechanical movement.....then you do THIS to me. Just take my wallet....
Thank you!
Noticed the bezel alignment might be off on two of the watches and the chrono secondes doesn't reset to zero. Beautiful watches otherwise. I would like to buy one but living in Canada makes it cost prohibitive... Great vid...
Probably Parallax as the watch reset perfect for me.
@@islandwatch. I'm a photographer. It wasn't parallax. Offset the same from multiple angles...
asn't
my hemel did not come with a box :-(
Never had an st19 does the 30min counter continue to run after hitting the 30min marker? Make the 14 hour bezel really useful then.
It will continue to run until the power reserve runs out. The bezel has 30 minute markers between the hours so you know which part of the hour you're on when timing longer than 60 minutes. It's such a simple but well thought out detail.
Keeps going!
Is the exhibition case back sapphire?
Yes, I believe it is.
Any retro panda versions coming in this range?
None that I know of.
is there a battery or how do you charge it?
It‘s hand wound. You have to turn the crown to „charge“ it. power reserve is about 42 hours so essentially you should give it a couple of twists every day in order to keep it running.
Is there a steel bracelet that correctly fits this watch?
No, just straight end.
Marc do you always wear two watches or just when you do vids?
95% of the time.
@@islandwatch so do you have two different times going then, or you’re just that much of a watch nut :)
I was told never bet against a horse named Always Wins.
Good tip
Olive is best
Noted!
Got the first like. I feel special.!
You are!
@@islandwatch Thanks Mark, so are you. Glad to be a long term repeat customer.
It looks like the case is all polished. That is a shame.
👍
Thanks for watching.
Can you make your content inclusive and accessible by formatting the auto captioning into closed captioning? it is sadly very hard to watch relying only on the auto captioning (Im Profoundly Deaf)
Trying to decide if spending 500 dollars for a watch with a Chinese movement is justifiable.
It's not, its 499 :)
They're pretty good movements, I bought a watch 9 years ago with the same movement and it still runs pretty well and has never been serviced. They're based on the Venus 175 and are made with tooling from the Venus factory. But, you can get a watch with the same movement for under $200. Is it worth $300 for a different case and dial? I'm not sure. For the same $500 price you could get a Lorier Gemini, which looks better to my eyes and comes on a really nice bracelet. This Hemel looks good too but I'm not a big fan of faux aged lume.
@@ilovejazz3s I agree the movements are usually pretty good. This is my 3rd watch with the ST19. My Hemel actually came in today. I bought the Lorier Gemini last May and it's a great watch as well. I'm definitely in the honey moon faze right now with the Hemel but I think I like it better than the Lorier. Upside of the Lorier is it comes with a nice bracelet that has a 16mm taper for most it which makes it very comfortable. Why I'm digging the Hemel more right now is it has a Sapphire crystal and not pexiglass like the Lorier. The Hemel also has an exhibition case back when the Lorier has a plain sterile case back. I prefer being able to see this movement on the back on my watch. I measured the case diameter of the Lorier with my calipers at 38mm and the Hemel at 40mm. For my 7 1/4 inch wrist I'm digging the size of the Hemel but that's my personal preference. Both watches are great and the finishing and quality of both watches are on par with each other.
edit: The leather strap on the Hemel is not great. I recommend replacing it with a higher quality leather strap to have it match the rest of the watch.
First :)
Congrats.
@@islandwatch Thank you 2 or 3 in a row if only I had as much luck on the lottery.
The day I buy a Chinese made mechanical, or any other watch...... our current world will be non existent and out of it's orbit on the way to be engulfed by the sun.....
okay!
