If reactions required you to spend a ‘single’ that might limit their use, including counter, and also add another dimension to decisions around spending wild dice.
I do like the idea of using singles for doing 'something' in game but im not so sure about reactions; There are some warbands that need to use their reactions as part of their actual playstyle so maybe it should just be a counter thing.
Great stuff! I think the counter mechanics is a great idea, I do think it needs a little tweaking though. And yes, also think single box Bespoke is harder to compete with any AoS generally speaking. Love your idea and I think this too - is to make the single box better.
Single box bespoke 100% but as I said, one boxes are more like warcry starter sets for constructed play. That being said however, from my polling more then half of players actually only play one box warbands
As always, thank you. What do you guys in England and at Warhammer Worlds feel about proxies in general and say alternative miniatures aka 3d prints and such?
Thanks for the responses. I'm a fan of the counter restriction idea, but will admit I'm coming from the perspective of wildercorp and ydrilan, so low toughness. Related to the allies, the upcoming battle traits seems to be a decent approach, but feels a bit too weak. 1 shot removing minimum range doesn't feel like it does much, but purely a feeling, don't play enough to give a valid informed opinion.
It's true that some battle traits are stronger then others, though wildercorps can put some very strong lists on the board anyway so it's not so bad for them imo (cries in Askurgan Trueblades)
I like the idea of allies, but it makes balancing the game way harder. I'd rather have good balance between the warbands than the current meta of finding the two strongest models and then add a random warband with good chaff to that. The battle trait system was a good start, but we need more nerfs to allies.
I feel counter is not favourable for high volume with low strength and that's 66% miss rate. Defender using counter against high strength attack it's not as effective. I feel the reaction for the unmade is far more balance as it plays along side the low toughness they have available to that warband
Wildercorp box is terrible. We need the Double Crossbow Trailblazers and the Leatherhide guys suck. Scouts are not very good either, a better composition for the box would have been 3 Trailblazers, 1 Leatherhide and 1 scout
You get enough Crossbows in the box to convert 3x Trailblazer Crossbows so between that, axe scouts, dogs and dog lord you actually get a decent list imo
Not sure I like capping the Counter damage like that. 6 missed attacks doing to the same damage as 1 missed attack doesn’t feel right. Why not just limit the amount of times it can be used by making it cost a Double to use (or even a Triple).
@@OffMetaMusings I agree that dice are at a premium already, but isn’t that the point? The player needs to be engaged and making tough choices but currently Counter isn’t a ‘choice’ at all. It’s common sense. A finite dangerous ability is far more engaging than a damage cap. You would need to decide if and when to use it, and could try and force your opponents to use their dice where they don’t want to.

No discussion of version numbers? I am shocked. And appalled.
There's always space in the future :)

Making you remove dice to use it probably just means that it's never used tbh; dice are tight during a turn as is imo.

counter just needs a cost, as do most of the reactions if not all. a free damaging ability completely warps the economy of the dice pool.
