  • The Osage News held a watch party for members of the Osage Nation on January 7 as Native American actress Lily Gladstone won a Golden Globe for "Killers of the Flower Moon." Watch their amazing reaction!
'Killers of the Flower Moon' is a film directed by Martin Scorsese based on the book of the same name by David Grann. It details the true and tragic story of the Osage Murders, which were a series of crimes targeting members of the Osage Nation - namely murders to inherit oil wealth - in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Lily Gladstone plays Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman whose own family members were murdered for these oil headrights and who was married to Ernest Burkhart, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.
After Gladstone was announced, she received a standing ovation from the crowd, many of them A-listers in Hollywood. As she stepped onto the stage and accepted her award, Gladstone first spoke in her Blackfeet language.
The excitement of this win went across the globe, and social media was on fire.

I have always been proud of my Osage heritage, but I never imagined my tribe's history would be shared with me as a 68 year old woman. My mom was taken away by my non-Indian grandmother, who conditioned her daughter to deny her heritage. My birth brought about my mother reconnecting with her Osage father. My dad had asked my mother if she was Indian when he met her. She denied it, and he didn't ask again until I was born. She denied it again, and her uncle spoke up and shared that my mom was born on the Osage Reservation. He shared that my grandfather was still in Ponca City. Grand Father referred to me as HIS little Indian.

I have always appreciated your work and your wife's work on the lack of investigation on missing Indian women who are later found to be murdered. Glad to see you on the internet.

Vincent - I am an enormous fan and appreciator of your work and advocacy. I enjoyed hearing you on Monday's (re-run) of NPR's 1A show where you discussed this film. I will be making great effort to share this entire video with my many urban and rez Indigenous youth in Duluth, MN tomorrow! I especially appreciated seeing the speech reaction with the sound on from the home community.

@@VinceSchilling her gifts are more valuable than the award. They took 20 years to give Nolan the oscar. So many great movies later. Divine's timing is truly at work in such cases.❤🌠

Thank you Sir, you hit the target bullseye again relaying on your channel this moment which is nothing less than an Historical moment, a major page among the first ones, turned for everybody to see that Amerindian Nations are here, alive and kicking, but also alive and being major Artists in a Art discipline which has for decades so much underestimated, underrated and so often ignored them... Not anymore.👍👍👍👍
