Episode 986 The project keeps going. A trip to the library found a new Horowitz and Hill Book The Art of Electronics: The X Chapters Be a Patron: / imsaiguy
I'm nerd, not a geek...I don't a have a double-e...but I've found this book a very useful addition to my library. It's also as dangerous as the internet. You can get trapped in a time warp as you start reading it, just like chasing down that list of "Ten Strange Facts about IMSAI Guy. Number three will shock you."
I grew up on AoE, so I might have to look for that, though I suppose I should grab a 3rd edition first. My poor second edition doesn't even have a cover anymore.
Love that book. I've been a fan since the late 1980s. I'm a mechanical engineer who used this as a text in a class called "Experimental Physics." University of Minnesota. All non-EE engineers should take that class. Professor Zimmerman taught it.
Used the textbook for a EE course years back, I think my brain still hurts from that class. Horowitz makes you think about electronics from a unique angle, not the linear step by step design, but more a holistic intuitive approach. At least thats what I got from it. I still have the original book!
I bought one last year. I would not call it textbook-ee has a lot of fun facts. I was interested in instrumentation amplifier stuff that as left out of the main book. I think they could have included this book with the big book it is that many additional pages.

The Grob book and Horowitz and Hill led this self-taught tech to a 20 plus year career with TRW, HP, IBM, and SONY.
Those books take you down too many rabbit holes..

IMO "The X Chapters" are even better than the original book 👍
Same for me !

The book is to heavy for bed time reading. If you doze off, it landing on your chest will wake you up. Lol!
Thanks I had a good laugh with the book review. Sadly reading also puts me to sleep. Normally I read after a nap.
Had a quick look at the book and for it on Amazon for 56$, guess I know what's heading this way now. Thanks for the tip!
