I hope you enjoyed this adventure! It means so much to me that you spent the time watching it. If you enjoyed this, please consider subscribing. I strive to bring relatively unknown, odd, unique, and special places to you each week from the American Southwest!
---------------
👍How to be a respectful visitor to these places👍
Native American groups still live in this area and beyond today. These places are still special and hold significance.
1️⃣Don't climb on walls or structures. Don't lean on or climb over them. Many places don't even need to be visited up close. View these places from a distance or with binoculars.
2️⃣Do not touch the rock art. Don't touch or create new rock art to preserve ancient stories.
3️⃣ Leave All Artifacts. Leave artifacts and structures undisturbed to maintain their historical significance. It is illegal and wrong to take artifacts. If you want something to take home, support local tribes by buying their handicrafts and jewelry.
4️⃣ Manage Waste Responsibly. Use waste bags; don't leave human or pet waste behind. Don't 'go' near cultural sites.
5️⃣ Camp With Care. Don't camp near historical sites. No fires near these areas, and ensure all waste is packed out. Don't make fires in caves or alcoves. Camp in designated spots only. When you leave, make sure to make the site cleaner and better than when you found it. Pick up extra trash you may see.
6️⃣ Control Your Pets. Don't let pets roam freely near archaeological areas to prevent destruction. Pets are not allowed in or near sites.
7️⃣ Preserve Fragile Areas. Don't disturb fossils and please protect delicate soil and plant life.
8️⃣ Follow Rules. Don't engage in illegal actions such as building cairns, or using climbing gear to access archaeological sites.
9️⃣ Obey Drone Rules and Laws. Numerous locations in the American Southwest and beyond, such as the Navajo Reservation, Wilderness Study Areas, and various restricted spaces, enforce strict drone usage prohibitions. It is crucial to not only honor the legacy of the people who once inhabited these areas but also show respect for the present-day residents and adhere to their local laws, customs and regulations.
---------------
Disclaimer: I'm not claiming to be the first to 'discover' these sites. I simply explore intriguing spots I find on Google Earth, with my drone, or through hiking, and share the adventure!
I do not claim to be an expert on anthropology, geology, or archaeology. I don't have a degree or formal training in archaeology. I am just a hiker who loves to explore and see new things especially the ancient history in the American Southwest. This is what my channel is about. I hope you stick around and explore with me!
I do not give out locations to the places in my videos. I take seriously the responsibility to protect and respect these ancient places. If you do find/visit one of these locations, please visit respectfully. I try my best to hide noticeable landmarks, mountains, and canyons in my videos.

Many of us are unable due to age, infirmity or life commitments to take these wonderful adventures, but you take us with you ! We are happy that you are happy to have us with you, thank you
*@**16:56** almost looks like it could be the stacked stone door of an intact granary vs the base of a platform.*
Exactly. I couldn't do this due to physical and mental health reasons. Not to mention I'm all the way over in Europe.
I kind of live vicariously through these videos and am enjoying them immensely.
I love doing this, but I love sharing this too! Thanks for being part of my channel!
I’m glad you are ok after your fall.
It looked to me like he already learned how to fall! 🙂
Whew!🙏
Sometimes, to get a better look at the rock art, you can sprinkle it with clean water. Good luck on your curious travels
See you next trip!
Find someone who has been through Airborne training to teach you how to do ❤P.L.F. My husband was in 82nd Airborne during Vietnam and taught me and all our children to fall correctly and it has saved us from many possible broken bones. The Parachute Landing Fall teaches you to roll with the fall instead of trying to stop
Thanks for all you do!
That large pictograph was amazing. Worth the hike. 😊
Very cool petroglyphs and carved steps that you discovered Jeff! Thank you for taking me along with you on this Trek through our incredible Southwestern deserts! Hope you’re not too sore from your fall… stay safe out there!
Another excellent adventure Jeff!! Thanksfor taking us along. I'm very glad you're tumble was minor , please stay safe ❤
We wait for days looking for a video from you!!! It's worth it!! Thank you. May God Bless you and keep you safe.
Right above the wooden pole, just left of the deer prints seem to be an upside down figure. Maybe you were not the first who fell down in this neighborhood. Stay save!
Wow, I didn't even notice that! Thank you for pointing that out!
The Ancients were amazing people! Thanks for the trip! Loved it ❤
You are doing what I would do ifI still could! Don’t ever stop until you just can’t do it anymore! It sure doesn’t come back! Great adventures!!
It sure has a special ancient feel to it Jeff.. those pieces of pottery were so pretty too..and the petroglyphs! Thank you for sharing : )
So many cool finds! You remain my favorite explorer, always so genuine in your excitement and pleasure. I really enjoyed this one.
That piece of pottery with the offset squares blew me away that would have been cool to see the whole thing thanks for taking us along once again😊
First, I’m very glad your fall turned out to be a worse scare than injury! I’ve a few thoughts on the site. The carved steps look like there might have been a set for ascending and another for descending. The ones with the deep carvings on the uphill side would make it easier to plant your heel first as you descended. Or, the different sets with the small and longer intervals between steps could be for adults and children. I thought the pile of rocks provided a way for kids to access the steps. At some of the larger pueblos, it’s clear Pueblo builders thought about children, and elders, and made accommodations for them. They built half-height walls along steep drop offs and plaza areas to prevent falls, and fenced small enclosures to contain creepers and crawlers.
Thank you for sharing your adventures. I'm 66 and took skiing lessons as a kid. The ski instructor taught me how to fall. I recently fell off a ladder onto concrete, and my body having been trained knew what to do. I sustained only a small scratch. I recommend skiing lessons and practice in falling. Respect.
The animals tracks probably indicated it’s a hunting trail showing the animals you will encounter , as hunting is done by tracking foot prints
That does sound very likely. They used to hunt salt licks and water holes a lot as well
That makes sense. I'm sure they could find lots of animals below the cliffs!
I'm another viewer who can no longer make such a hike. Hard floors at work for 39 years,, and my knees are painful. I loved watching this video.
Came across your channel this week. Really enjoy your content. Appreciate the respect you show for the environments you explore. As a fellow explorer…respect
I appreciate that, thank you!
Did anyone else see the falling man petroglyph near the animal track petroglyphs? The camera crosses over it multiple times
So all of you see it as an ancient warning sign "! Beware!! Slippery when wet or dry, don't fall! " 😅
It's certainly spectacular country you take us to. Thank you!
I'm surely not the only shut in oldster who is very glad for your posts...🕊️🙏!!! Be Blessed and stay safe 🙏!!!
At least one other comment mentioned the possibility of finding rock art on the hidden side of fallen rock. It looked to me that quite a bit of the hill/cliff face has fallen in more recent times.
The human figure drawing also had noticeable genitalia.
Yes, hanging low, must have been an old guy! lol
It has been my great pleasure to watch this channel grow from fewer than 1,000 to today - the production value is off the charts now - but our hero never changes - bold, brave curious - a really good guy - thanks man, for the great vids
Wow, thank you, Greg! Thank you for sticking with me from the beginning!
For the algorithm. You are great! Thank you so much. Can't wait for more😊
I click 👍 on comments and randomly comment on someone's comment, for the algorithm!!! Have a great weekend!!!
Thank you!! I'll take any help I can get!
That was another awesome trek! Thanks!❤❤❤
Thank you!
Saturday adventure with Jeff 🙏💜🤗 God bless you!
:29, rock above potshard is a heart.
Love your stuff, jeff.
Also, love that it makes you so happy to share it with us.
Thanks.
Edit, also at 2:00.
Thanks again, Jeff! Another great one!
Thanks Al!!
Thank you, Jeff. Your enthusiasm and sense of adventure brings our history to life. I am grateful to you for sharing with all of us.
Thank you, John!
Can't believe you climbed up to those steps and didn't go up them. 😳 What a great find!
Not a place to make mistakes ... it could be a very fast way down and no one around -
Yah, I was hoping he might, and then thought he might not because he wouldn’t want to damage any of the rock art so close by. Then I saw the overhead shot of the location from the drone and was glad he didn’t try to climb it!
If I was with someone else, I probably would have done things differently
@@TheTrekPlanner Just being out there alone and being careful is risky, really appreciate the time you put in and the respect you exhibit.
Thank you for another interesting and beautiful trek!❤
It always warms my heart to see how respectful you are to nature and to history. We can/should all learn from this.
That piece of yellowish pottery has a beautiful pattern, would love to see a complete pot
Hey, careful that last step is a doooooooozey! Glad your ok. Nice trek!
Thanks for taking us with you on these adventures…You Da Man Jeff!!! Thanks!!! You save my knees!!!
Thank you I love your videos. God keep you safe.
Thank you Jeff. So happy you are not badly injured. ❤
I appreciate that, thank you!
That makes several of us!!
Hey Jeff,
If you choose to return to this area, fly your drone above the steps, then to the large rock formation just to the north.
There is one of the most amazing petroglyph panels in this entire area.
All the best. Thanks for the vids!
Cool!! I will do that! Thanks for sharing
And I want to see it
Jeff, that small fall shows how quickly you could get seriously hurt! I wish you could always take someone with you. We sort of all want you to stay in good shape so the videos can keep coming! Stay safe!
There may well have been more petroglyphs on faces that have now broken and collapsed. Interesting site.
Your channel has really evolved since the beginning. You have more confidence in your hiking abilities. Your videos, editing and narration have really grown. Congrats my friend!
It's still a one man show, but I really appreciate that!! Thank you!
Have you ever been to a site where you were convinced that you were the first person to visit it in modern times? This site did not seem to show any signs of having been visited since the ancients left hundreds of years ago (at least that I noticed). It would be fascinating if that were the case.
I've come across places where I felt I was the first person there in hundreds of years. Picking up a piece of pottery, or an arrowhead or axe head or even jewelry, and realizing I'm the first person to touch it since the person who owned or made it, is like jumping timelines or something. It's a magical feeling.
Totally random guess here: Related settlements on either side of the mountain, the carved steps mark the trade route across the most direct path between them. If that's the case, the platform may have been a resting place, maybe someplace to spend the night along the trail if it was more than an overnight trip between the two villages.
Be interested to see your visit to Hopi Land - did stay at Third Mesa many moons ago - amazing night sky, and best fry bread, and the kids doing their dances like their elders. Loved that Spirit connection... It's the kind of culture which is so missing from our modern Western lives... Glad you didn't fall much further, all that loose rock looks quite treacherous.
We loved it and want to go back. The people were incredibly kind!
My keys?
I only ask because I've looked everywhere else.
I did find your keys, Don! Really such a random place to get them lost though
😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🥰
@@TheTrekPlannerWow!
Yes, learning how to fall is vital.
The most important aspect of learning how to fall is, how to miss the ground.... lol
Throwing yourself at the ground and missing is called flying!
@@daxdadog ha ha. Slartibartfast
@@daxdadog haha I'll work on my flying 😂😂
@@jaytaggert9883 I'll see your Slartibartfast, and raise you one Zaphod Beeblebrox! ;-)
Thanx for taking us on your adventures. I love the SouthWest.
My Uncle lived in Apache Junction before he passed. Love it there.
Unfortunately I'm too broke to travel there now and too old & decrepit to hike areas like that anymore.
Look forward to your next Trek.
😎👍👍
Great video, hope you are ok!!! Thank you!
Really cool trek! Thanks for taking us along!
Right next to that very first shard you picked up was a perfect heart-shaped rock fragment. It pays to keep your eyes open…thanks for sharing your adventures!
Great video yet again of you exploring our beautiful world. My heart jumped a little when you fell there, but I'm happy you're ok and still with us. Good thing that you're always prepared. Have you ever thought of spending the night near a site like this? Thanks for another great trek!!!
Glad to see that you made it out okay after that fall.
Thank you for taking us along another amazing trek!
Thank you for your concern for my safety. And thank you for watching!
Thank you Jeff. Too bad you didn’t find any larger ruins. But what you saw from way below was correct. Good eye. Thank you for taking us along on this adventure. Blessings. 💕🙏🏻
@6:57 mins. "Judo" is the best way how to learn to fall. They called it "falling school".I did it. Cheers from Germany.
Great find. As someone who can no longer hike, I take comfort in your videos.
Also glad you're okay after that fall!
Like your countdown graphics❤
I wish I knew something about the geology here. The rocks on the lower slopes have sharp edges and look freshly fractured, while the top of the mountain was eroded, with rounded edges. Thank you for this and all your videos. So well done.
The structure you found could be a spot for safe overnight stop. I mean they were traveling....
There seem to be two different layers of art at that panel with differing patinas.
It would be fun to go Trekking with you brother Jeff
Thank you so much for providing an alternative to the new normal sensational content...always enjoy your explorations. Thank you...
Be careful, young man. We love you and your adventures. I suggest you carry BleedStop in your IFAK. I've seen it save lives.
It’s a hide… they’re even saying what animals pass there
5:49 that shard! 😍😍 Glad that fall wasn’t worse! And that you always carry a first aid kit. Even though there aren’t any ruins, a very cool find! Thanks for taking us. ❤
Do you carry a personal locator beacon when you hike? I hope so. I hope you recuperate quickly from the fall! Beautiful area, I enjoy your drone footage, thanks Jeff!
I do. It's always strapped to my belt now!
Glad you are safe! You do such a great job with these videos, Thanks!
The small platform feels to me like an often used camp spot. Like a cabin in the wood for hunters. A base camp for a 3 days of hunting or resource X gathering kinda thing.
9:48 I think I see more than what you highlighted. it is so cool
Loose rock is always treacherous. Very cool pictographs and foot path up the rock.
This is an awesome find! Thank you for sharing 😊
Another really interesting and cool video. Are you going to invite us all to your 300K subscriber party? I'll bring a bag of chips.
These ancients were engineering their life. From carving footholds and petroglyphs for information they saw a problem and made it work. Incredible ‼️
Good morning from SA. What a lovely surprise/blessing to find you to my phone. Now to relax before I start the day. Always good to be out in nature alongside with you, trekking. 😂 Thank you!
The videos are looking great, keep up the good work! Thanks for bringing us along for the journey.
Nice footage glad you are ok Interesting adventure look forward to more. Your adventures always interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Yes Jeff, please be careful! I want to keep enjoying your videos❤
Thabk you! Another great adventure. Thank God you are ok. ❤️🙏
You deserve a PhD in ancient southwestern civilization mapping.
Safe travels! Thankful the fall wasn't any worse. God be with you.
You mentioned Annie, your wife. 👏🏻
I caught that too and wondered if I had missed the info before somehow!
Your WIFE? What? Never mentioned a wife and kids before.
Yes! I hope she can come with me more! Her schedule isn't as flexible as mine, but we are hoping to do a really big trip soon !
I’m so glad you’re ok, this area you found is absolutely amazing, those steps to the structure. Wow. ❤❤❤
I am so glad you are alright. That was a very tough climb! Thank you for always sharing your adventures with us!
The pot-shard at 6:00 is stunning.
12:18 the hole in the chest looks to be his heart, and yes it looks like a he. 😂
Even though they didn’t get accented in color…
The animal track petroglyphs are maybe an ancient chalk board, they carve them once and come back to teach the children what different tracks look like.
Thanks for taking us along on another very interesting adventure!
So thankful that you are OK.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with those of us that are unable to do so. Please, take good care of yourself. That fall must have been scary, and it could have been worse. Be careful!
Thanks for another fine adventure.
God bless you for sharing & always enjoyable.
Learning how to fall is lesson 1 of skateboarding!
Brilliant Landscape - please be Careful ! Fantastic Rock Art - carved Steps and a Ruin near by - wow ! What a Great Video - thank You and many Cheers from Australia !
What about the upside down man figure where you mentioned the deer tracks? To the left at 8:35
I was looking to see if anyone else commented on that. Maybe a warning of fall risk?
Thank you for putting the Time Stamp in... makes it so much easier for us to find it.
I looked for a comment about the falling human under his hand. Saw animal tracks though.
I allways wonder what is on the other side of the slabs of rock that have fallen off. Probably quite a bit of art in some of them. Be fun to jack them up a little and film under them to see.
Beautiful stuff man. Thx.
Love your adventurist spirit.
A trail to the farmland possibly?
Incredible find again! At 8:45 (stopped the video) does anyone else see an upright humanoid figure in the middle, its left foot quite faded, but visible right toes, a long trapezoid body, thin arms, some motivs on the body, close where the heart is (again)?
And Jeff: please take care out there! 🙏
Fascinating and so intriguing! Be safe on the cliffs.
Another trek to a sweet spot!
