Future seniors applying, don't stress yourself too much, college admissions are holistic, which might work in ur favor. I got a 1200 SAT, applied RD without realizing that SAT was required (I only realized after I applied), I decided to just be honest and submit my SAT and on March 25th morning... I got in!!! Cute bees raining down my acceptance letter which was soooo cute :') I'm glad Georgia Tech saw past my low SAT score!
I just came across your gt videos and I applied EA with a1040 SAT score definitely knowing I would be denied, but then in December of 2021 I got deferred, which was a surprise because I expected to be denied. Then March 5, 2022, came along and I was so anxious so at 12:05 PM I went and opened up my decision and BAM I GOT IN! The yellow jackets began raining down the screen, just like my tears. I was so happy and I'm proud to say that I've committed and FASET is now like 16 days away and I'm anxious but very excited, I also will be starting this summer so I'll be there most of my summer but I'll be commuting, then staying in the dorms in the Fall but IM BEYOND HYPED for not just starting this summer but moving in, in August! So for anyone considering whether you should apply, YES APPLY! even if you think you'd never get in because your SAT score is too low :) GO JACKETS! edit: by the way, I chose GT over UGA

Hiiii! I just got in GT, major in Bio! I really wanna try pre med, and I just wanna know is the bio major good in GT( seems like EVERYONE's in CS and Engineering ), and if it is a good place for premed.
Emily Zhang hey congrats on your acceptance!!☺️ yep a ton of people are engineers but there are a lot of premeds with science majors here! i personally think the bio major is great especially for premed since it essentially has all the pre recs for med school built-in. there's also a lot of medically related ec's all around campus/super helpful premed advisers so you won't run dry of resources!
What about majoring in Neuro at GT? Does that major have prereqs for Medschool? BTW This video was absolutely helpful please do more vids like these!! :)

thank you so much!! i just thought bio would be a better fit for me since i enjoyed the subject in high school and wasn’t really a fan of chem 😅 also there is a pre-health concentration at tech! if you add this to your degree, you will be given access to the pre-health canvas portal that which contains a ton of helpful links and advice for pre-health students! hope this helps!
I am an NY resident and I am thinking of applying to GT as a transfer. I want to major in IE but I have an associate degree in Business Administration. Not sure whether I have a shot since my associate major is in business.
erm do you think i have a chance of getting into gt? i’ve taken 5 aps so far (taking 4-5 my senior year next year) currently have a 3.7 gpa uw and 4.0 (i think???) w. im an in state white female aiming for a 1400 on the sat. i wanna major in computer science (i have some ecs related i did, technology student association (won some awards at a competition, i did this club my freshman and sophomore year where i was an officer sophomore year, also planning to do it my senior year but i didn’t do it junior year), and i also was a state level nominee for ghp in computer science by my cs teacher). i also have 100+ volunteer hours at my local church and i’m doing nhs, also did band but only my freshman year lol. finally i’m planning on getting letters of rec from the cs and engineering teachers at my school
Could you explain the different GPA types. My schools weighted is out of 6, but here you said for you it was out of 5. Also my school does 4 for and A, 3 for a B, and so forth for unweighted. What GPA is it that Tech, and other schools, use for applications? I’m just confused on what the different GPAs are and can’t find a comprehensive answer
wow i've never heard of weighted GPAs out of 6? that's interesting. from my experience, colleges generally take out of the 4 scale and if available, they take your weighted GPA out of 5. i think you have the option to choose whatever GPA scale you had at your school, but not sure about out of 6. you should probably email or call them to make sure!
I have been doing pilot training for about 5 years now almost about to get my private pilot's license. I want to go to the aerospace engineering program at GT. I have 3.9 gpa, and 1340 SAT right now. Taking the SAT again this august but not taking the reading section, shooting for 800 math. Im doing dual enrollment with georgia state this year. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in when I apply this october?
you have a great shot in terms of GPA and the length of pilot training you’ve done really shows that you’re passionate about it! do you have any extracurricular activities that reflect your pilot training experience? also be sure to highlight what you’re excited for that GT has to offer in your application
So what do you think about the 5-year BS/MS program (BSBIO/MSBINF) for bioinformatics? Is it a worthy option for those looking for a career in bioinformatics?
This is soo crazy, I was just messaging in the GT group chat for people who were accepted today and then I see this! Thank you so much for your tips, I’m sure a lot of people were equally grateful for your commentary.
World History With Dan i actually don't know anything about bioinformatics or its career track. i recommend you searching through the georgia tech website i'm sure they will have plenty of info there! bioinformatics.gatech.edu
Hannah Shin I heard from a past alumni from Stanford (went for his undergrad) and GT (masters in computer science) that the computer science courses are essentially comparable in regards to both rigor and value. He essentially said that GT is Stanford in all but name. Although it might be a bit different for undergrad bc GT does rank better for its masters degrees than it does for it’s undergrad. In either case, it shows that getting a masters in bioinformatics holds high prospects.
World History With Dan i really appreciate it! so glad i can help. i totally agree with you that a masters degree here holds high prospects. GT is no doubt a highly regarded school and i want to say congrats to everyone who made it in😊
Could I be an average student and get in? or is it absolutely necessary for me to take AP classes and have a high GPA? I’m scared because I’m currently studying outside of the US in high school and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get in. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I can’t get in.
He will actually submit his application in the fall of his senior year, but it’s never too early to start brainstorming essay topics and form a resume!
No. But it would help alot if you had a decent GPA. Id say anything above a 3.7 is passable. Of course yours exams and extracurriculars will play a more weighted roll if your GPA is lower
up to you what you do and don’t want to include. i got a 2 on my AP world history exam my freshman year that i didn’t enter. my personal policy was to include all scores of 3 or higher :)
I want to go to Georgia Tech but my grades aren’t that great compared to my classmates. In both my freshman and junior year I struggled with depression and deaths in my family and it really sapped my motivation to do schoolwork. I’m going to take the SAT and ACT multiple times to get the best scores I can but I’m worried that my GPA will get me rejected. I also am going to take a gap year and live with family in Georgia to establish residency. Do you think I have any chance of getting in?
I'd say to have a good chance you'd need to score in the 33+ for the ACT. You're GPA is very important so I would suggest trying hard to get it as high as possible. You'll also have to have some type of extra-curricular. You don't need like 8 or 9, but at least 1 that you have been doing for a good amount of time. On the good side, applying as a resident will probably help your chances of getting in. I'll be applying from out of state, so it will reduce my chances, but I am going to go for it and hope for the best.
