On the drive back to Yangshuo from somewhere, guide Mark mentioned that Hakka people lived in this area and I asked, "Are there any tulou?" To which he replied, "Yes." "Okay, then, let's drive and see what it looks like." Steve and I saw many tulou in Fujian county two years ago (videos uploaded on my channel) that we became tulou'd out but this tulou was different from those because it was built on one level.
A tulou is a traditional communal residence in Fujian province of Southern China constructed in a multi-level, circular design surrounding a central shrine. They were designed for protection, think "fortress" and are gorgeous.
This one-level tulou was not so gorgeous but still the only one-level tulou we've ever seen.

I don't know if you ever had a chance to watch any of the older videos, but those were REALLY amazing tulous. Take a look at just one, if you feel like it. Thanks for sticking with me and watching the many videos. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Pretty amazing, sheila. I have seen these in China, but they were non-functional, only relics. I did not know that people still lived in these things. It is cool that you actually got to go inside one in which people were living!

Thanks, Sheila. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving also. I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, and it was so cold. We Californians are not used to such cold! Take care.
