Superb video as always Will, having watched this I really underestimated how much work goes into preparing one of these hides. Many thanks for taking the time to record and share this ~Peace~
I learned a lot from this, thanks. Will that one chip of flint work the whole hide or do you have to make or touch up this one, maybe it will still be fine for another hide? This work takes a lot of time, an item scarce in today's world. I think with all our gadgets to make our work easier we would have more time for such things as this. Not the case.
downeast primitive skills Excellent video. I've done one brain leather deer hide. One. Just to see if I could do it. A lot of work, but neat to know how to do it. Your method is different than the one I used, but it yields the same thing. Thanks for taking the time to film your process.
I use modern tools for times sake. is this hair on? I also add water to the brains. I let the skin dry after fleshing. then scrape the hair off. I then soak it in solution of one brain and a gallon and a half of water. then I soak for about one hour then fix holes and stretch for an hour or so. then soak it again for another hour or so on less it is a buck then
When he says brain, he means the actual animals brain? So he scrapes off the fat and then adds the brain. What does it do to the skin? Does it dry then? I wonder if mixed with too much water is the same tho.

That was awesome man! Can't wait to try this in the fall. I'll have to check out your other videos now.
When do you reckon the smoking and softening of pelts video will be aired?
What do you do with that hide then?
Hey Will, do you ever use modern tools or do you keep it all primitive ?
Jesse James it depends how much time he’s got
Nice work!
Where do you get your flint from? I have a lot of trouble obtaining flint here in Britain.
norfolk
Steampunk Smilodon Ah, makes sense. There is a lot of flint up there. We get none of it down here in Cornwall
RegaRayRocks look in rivers and around chalk
Steampunk Smilodon We don't get many chalk rivers around here. Not that I know of, anyway
no i meant around chalk on land, any river will have flint chunks in it
