An odd list to be sure. Missing: Homer, Plato, Henry James, Ibsen, Joseph Conrad, D. H. Lawrence, Thomas Hardy, H. G. Wells, Flaubert, Nabokov, Melville, Edith Wharton, Voltaire, Swift, Hawthorne, etc. Shakespeare number 5? Universally regarded as the greatest author in the English language, or any language for that matter.
Every list it will be questionable, furthermore, it is impossible to compare theater, prose and poetry The only thing I can say is that in my country we consider Homer, Virgil, Dante, Shakespeare, Goethe as the unreachable top of the top. Miguel de Cervantes, Moliere, Manzoni, Tolstoy and Dostoevskij slightly below. The rest is for really to questionable.
@@bimbum819 Tolstoy and Dostoevsky are for sure ahead of him. Dante and Hugo are debatable. Only Middle/High school students would think Shakespeare is the best author of all time, there are probably 5-10 better than him. In terms of the most influential and famous authors tho, he is for sure #1.
@@sadradezdar7114what a stupid opinion, shakespeare is best if talking about writing, sure you can find tolstoy and dostoevsky novels to be more insightful but when it comes to purely writing, no one is beating shakespeare.
@@AgnusDei695Tolstoys prose has literally been described as a “river of life”, Nabokov citing it as “to the same swing as people walking outside” and even noble winners like Hemmingway and Camus point to war and peace as the greatest story ever. Shakespseare can’t compare
I don't think you should compare novelists, poets and playwrights. Also, I think ancient and modern writers are hard to compare. I think a better list would be 100 modern fiction writers.
John O'Hara Raymond Chandler Mickey Spillane Ayn Rand P. G. Wodehouse Henrik Ibsen John Dos Passos Nathaniel Hawthorn Henry Wadsworth Longfellow William Makepeace Thackeray Henry James Edith Wharton Sinclair Lewis Upton Sinclair Ford Maddox Ford Robert Graves Tennessee Williams ...... I like all of these more than some of the ones you picked.
Interesting, the only thing I dont like is that you used wrong flag for Hermann Hesse (He was Swiss-German) and looking at Franz Kafka it would be more appropiate to use the Austrian and the Czech flag next to each other, since he lived almost all of his life in Austria-Hungary, and wrote in german eventough he was from Prague. A Person definitly missing here is Schiller, a german Philosopher and author who lived at the same time as Goethe.
Maulana Jalaluddin Muhammad Balkhi is known as Rumi from ancient Balkh of Great Khorasan and the current country of Afghanistan. Please research first and then post.🙏
This list is stupid. I mean… Who the hell put Exupery and Remark near each other? One is mostly famous because of one childish book(but I must admit very good one) and one of the most famous author of the lost decade? And yeah Hugo is greater than Shakespeare…. No comments.
Where is Machado De Assis? there are some patriots in the comments, defending writers from their countries or peoples. I defend Brazilian writers, and you?
Well he made the list according to what he/she knows. Dostoievsky is definitely one of the best ever. But the list don't mention the likes of Mihai Eminescu,, Nichita Stănescu, Lucian Blaga, Kim Dong-ju, Li Bai, Du Fu, Giacomo Leopardi....

Shakespseare can’t compare
Ivo Andrić? Poet and short story writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961.
I’ve read Aesop, Shakespeare, Stendhal, Melville, Twain, Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Hemingway, Huxley, Tolkien, Orwell, Borges and Camus.
Milton is missing from this list.
A bizarre list obviously based on nothing remotely tangible, but fun anyway.

As an Italian, how can Leopardi not be there😱😱
Should have more modern authors -especially postmodernists such as Philip Roth and Donald Barthelme
"Where is author X?!?!?!?"
Guys it's a subjective, meaningless list. Relax
Where is Dr. Suess
Machado de Assis
When it is about literature, philosophy nobody comes near to Mr Tolstoy
You mean Toergenjev💯
Dostoievski is above Tolstoy.

You mentioned "MARIO VARGAS LLOSA" two times. At number 94 and 79. Correct it.

That Schiller is not mentioned is crazy.
It is missing from the list - Mihai Eminescu, Giacomo Leopardi, Nichita Stănescu, Lucian Blaga, Kim Dong-ju, Li Bai, Du Fu...
Calvino at 8 ...how d he even get on the list
Crazy how JK Rowling didn't even make the list when she's got the best selling book franchise of all time.
I switched off at salman rushdie... lol
You forgot to add MAX STRAVAGAR he's the William Shakespeare of our times!
Got to take out some of the American and British writers out then the list will be correct
This is taken from imdb's list
I like Remarque but him over Brecht?
Stephen king and Gorge R R Martin is missing
Now if we want to be technical, just put all of the authors of the books of the Bible
Petar II Petrovic Njegos? Ivo Andric?
Not a single Dutch writer?! And what about Chzech Hrabal?
DOSTO THE GOAT
And the winner is... Mario Vargas Llosa! 🏆
5 Turk in list
4🇹🇷
1🇰🇬
fine with Dostoevsky and Dante at the top of this list
This is a really bad and bizarre list. No Chinese writers (Du Fu, Li Bai, Wang Wei, Cao Xueqin, Lu Xun?). No Murasaki Shikibu (Murakami? Seriously?).
Maulana Jalaluddin Muhammad Balkhi is known as Rumi from ancient Balkh of Great Khorasan and the current country of Afghanistan. Please research first and then post.🙏
You've mentioned liosa twice
Nor Romi it’s Maulana jaladin balkhi he was Persian from Afghanistan not Iran
Where is Jack London i think he is magnificent author in America
Friedrich Nietzsche??? how could you forget him???
George Bernard Shaw is in 64th rank. 🙂
احب الفلاسفه
George R.R. Martin is not in the list. Why, exactly?😡
Because he is not good?
I'm joking. There are a lot of amazing writers that aren't on this list. Don't take it to heart.
This list is stupid. I mean… Who the hell put Exupery and Remark near each other? One is mostly famous because of one childish book(but I must admit very good one) and one of the most famous author of the lost decade? And yeah Hugo is greater than Shakespeare…. No comments.

Lololo sorry I couldn't resist
Veda Vyasa is the Greatest Author.
Where is sir Dr Muhammad iqbal.you are a college dropout for sure... don't have minimum idea of literature and history
Lovecraft is too low for me, and yes I know he was kinda racist
😂 Rabindranath Tagore??? Kaha hai??? They are drunk and made the list
Herman Melville should be number 1
You really think so?
Why do you think so? What justify his position as number one in your opinion?
Rabindranath thakur
Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi is not Iranian. He is Turkish. Was from Balkh. Balk situated in Xuroson. He moved to Anadolu. Turkey.

there are some patriots in the comments, defending writers from their countries or peoples.
I defend Brazilian writers, and you?
Mano, essa lista é estranha, esqueceram dos brasileiros, e a literatura brasileira tem muito conteúdo
Where is Taras Shevchenko?
Пішли вони на.уй з тим достоєвським!
@@БоженаГіль ты можешь не читать Достоевского. Никто же не заставляет.
Start with the Harvard Classics. I mean, come on, man. J.R.R. Tolkien? I read him when I was 13.
If you were to tell Dostoevsky he was better than Tolstoy, he would be the first person to disagree with you
Dostoievsky was better then Tolstoy.
weak
awful order of this list, very biased towards Europeans.
