  • I've really been enjoying summer. My husband loves to smoke different meats so when he's in the mood, we love to host friends to eat! Eating outdoors is our favorite, but the bugs that get into our food is not!
On a whim, I made the simple & reusable bowl cover that would be perfect to protect our watermelon.
This would also be perfect for:
    + bread mixing bowls
    + holiday gift
+ beautiful presentation for treats to be brought to a neighbor or friend
    Materials & Equipment I Used:
    sewing machine: amzn.to/3hAon5a
    fabric of choice: amzn.to/3qV61QM
    1/4 in. elastic: amzn.to/2UmsTwc
    fabric scissors: amzn.to/3jLaeoA
    iron
    sewing pins
    ruler
    thread

Hello RUclips friends! Today I'm walking you through how to make a reusable bowl cover. We had friends over the other weekend and I enjoyed an outdoor picnic, but needed something to cover up the food to protect from the bugs! It worked like a charm. I'm still pretty new to sewing but thought this was a really easy project to try if you're a beginner.

Cute covers! You could match your kitchen curtains, kitchen colors, etc. 😃 Do you ever "paint" beeswax on the inside to prevent liquid from soaking into the cover?

Thank you! I have wanted to make seasonal covers. That would be so cute I think. And yes, beeswax would be a great idea. I'd love to know if you try it.

Hey. I tried to do this today and the only thing I could think of that went wrong is I didn’t pull elastic hard enough? Mine didn’t bunch up like yours. Frustrated I tried twice

It quite possibly is. When I first started I noticed when I pulled it wasn't doing much. Try and go slow and pull harder to see if that helps. Could be the type of elastic?

I would love to know what marker you are using.

Nothing special. Just one of my daughters washable markers. 😂

I’m going to make these, but I’m going to use food safe PUL.
You’re going to stain the underside of your fabric

    No measurement for elastic!

The measurement will vary depending on what size bowl cover you use. I sewed the length I needed and then cut it. The video shows how I did it.
