It is sad that there are people that do not recognize the Pioneer plaque .
Welcome to 'old age' were you'll find you are out dated ..... relax and enjoy
Soooo true the dumbing down of Americans
Lost legends.
It's 50 years old, and a somewhat obscure find. People who aren't particularly interested in NASA history might not have ever seen it before. Cool find though.
That was my reaction as well.
The final item looks like a T-top chimney pot. The are used to prevent down-drafts filling the room with smoke and cold air. Also they can reduce the amount of rainwater that enters the chimney.
I think the last item is a chimney cap to keep the rain out.
That's what i was thinking. Some of them are really elaborate
My first thought was that it was an ancient fireplug, then I thought it might be a chimenea. Chimney cap seems much more reasonable. 😁
Definitely, they're still in use in Portugal and Spain mostly on outdoor grills and barbecues.
Better known as a chimney pot

I've watched several documentary series in which historians and archaeologists spend a year living in various eras, like the Victorian and Edwardian periods. As a result, I was able to deduce the purpose of the laundry tongs.
I recognized the Pioneer plaque right away. It's launch in the 1970s was a major event, as one can imagine, and the plaque's design was spread widely in the media.
My Nan had those tongs when i was little. She gave them to my Mom who was complaining that she struggled to get to the bottom of her new Hotpoint top loading washing machine. We live in the UK and most of us have the washing machine in the kitchen. We moved to a house with a kitchen that the machine wouldn't fit in in the early 80's. We sold the hotpoint and gave the buyer the tongs. She spent the next 20+ years complaining about how the toploader was so much better, and that her back hurt using the new frontloader lol
We had a pair of these tongs when we used a twin-tub (mid 1970s)
If YOU think the belt buckle is mysterious, what do you think aliens will think of it?
"WOW it looks just like the plaque on that probe that told us where the easy pickings were.... noble race but easy to take down with a bit of tech."
Hey, Gork, look at this map. It's shows where there's a bunch of naked people. No, seriously, an entire planet of naked people. We should totally go!!
I knew what that was but it's design has always been a mystery to me.
Seriously feel like a genius now, the only thing I didn't know was was the team tether device. Getting older and having grandparents born in 1905 has definitely paid off! I love your channel and YOU ARE my daily favourite outlook.... ❤
Fantastic!
I feel extremely old. Are you serious about someone NOT knowing what the Pioneer Plaque was/is?
I would bet a nickel that the last object is a cap pipe on a chimney
The unknown belt buckle displays a replica of the plaque on the 1st Voyager space explorer. It also carried a recording of greetings in various languages as well as the Brandenburg Concerto. The plaque was intended to communicate in pictures what the senders (humans) looked like, the location of earth in our solar system along the bottom. I don't recall the meanings of the other symbols are but it could easily be looked up.
Great video. Learned some history about the Japan bombings I didn't know.
Indeed! If you want to learn more about the end of the Jar with Japan, take a look at the book Emperor.
@randysmith9715 thank you. I will.
Always some very interesting items, many of which I have never seen and a few I recognize! I think this is a good learning tool for the youngers who have no clues about so many items😲
Thanks for watching!
The slicer made by Berkels are highly sought after the ones with a motor last forever
Laundry tongs: Love the accompanying Dolly peg and dolly tub..... memories from the 1950s
I don't know if it's the same Berkel but there is a company that still makes commercial kitchen products under that name. I used to work in a pizza place that had a giant multi purpose food processor make by them.
I don't know what the last one is, but I had to cringe when someone didn't recognize the furthest piece of art from the earth.
The Berkel logo at 6:27 caught my eye - I had a shop back in the '70s and still have the Berkel fan scales we used to weigh sweets; same logo
Last item is a chimney pot.
Just loving your site. Keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
I didn't know they warned about the upcoming attacks.
That's a hell of lot of warning then they gave us!
@@d.l.harrington4080 Japan did warn the US. It was ignored.
6:27 the voice is doubled here.
Right? That was a bit disconcerting!
My mother used a long hardwood stick to dip clothing and other garments from a washer/ wringer machine instead of those tongs ( I should know as I wad my bottom paddled by it numerous times when I was a small child, it ALSO was very smooth and shiny, and stung like CRAZY, I think most people used long sticks as those tongs were the first I have ever seen!!!
If you google deburring tool and choose images, you will understand why I first thought "damn fancy handle for s simplee machinist tool", on that parasol handle. The remains of the latch mechanism look in that picture quite like the blade on these tools. 😅
At 6:45 the picture is not taken in Rotterdam, it is in Forest suburb of Brussels (Belgium), and the tower in the background is Forest Town Hall.
Surely the washing tongs were so easy - everyone had them in the days of washing boilers or twin tubs.
The last thing is a chimney
Last item the Pioneer plaque,
This is a fun channel, but where does one go to post their own photos of odd unknown items?.
Check the "About" link up above
You can send it to us at: flenchcalvin0310@gmail.com.
Oh, I think it is resolved.
We have a few modern team tether devices. We call them “deck anchors” and use them for the ropes that support a flag pole we put up for special events.
How about your “uncle’s house “ you referenced in the thumb mail title for this video?!!!!!
Always a pleasure
Is your uncle also your grandfather? How could that be?
♥♥♥♥ one day I'll be first...
And that will get you what exactly? The "First" thing is SO out dated.
It's no fun being first here sometimes. A full comments section usually helps to guess the last item!
And then your life will be complete.
@@BBB-Schmuck I must congratulate you, this post is much more witty compared to your previous posts here.👍
@@user-wm3bf7pi3u I'm impressed! This is the first comment I've seen by Schmuck that isn't perversely sexual or scatological.
Horrendously ANNOYING voiceover.
