  • After a long first day on the Florida Adventure Trail and day 2 starting off with more deep sugar sand Doc was just too tired and fatigued to want to continue the trip. I'm not going to lie when Doc left it took a little wind out of my sails but when I first started planning this trip I was originally going solo so I just tried to readjust and get my mind back right. Just to be clear there are absolutely no hard feelings towards Doc I completely understand that stuff like this is not for everyone and I fully understand his decision. After I battled a few more deep sand sections and dropped my bike a couple of times I decided to take a mental break and I skipped the lower portion of the route and headed to the Gulf Coast. I found some nice gravel roads to ride in Devils Hammock wildlife management area and then made my way to Shell Mound campground to motocamp for the night. Anyone that has been following our channel for a while now knows I deal with stress, anxiety and mild depression issues and this day caused all of that to pop up but I fought through it the best I could and made the most of the day. Adventure motorcycle riding and adventure trips are full of adversity struggle and overcoming issues and at the end of the day I learned a lot about myself so it was a good day. Remember adventures aren't always smooth and without problems. As always thanks for watching and please consider subscribing.

It was a rollercoaster of a day for me on a personal level but I learned some things about myself which is always good. If it was always easy and nothing to overcome or fight through then it wouldn't be called adventure. Right on man, great video! I'm looking forward to the other vidoes.
I live in south FL, and these are my local trails within a 5 hour ride. Deep, DEEP sand is inevitable and will really test your endurance. Shit is TOUGH on my Africa Twin, picking a 560 pound bike up in the sand is very difficult. And, it's so easy to drop in this shit.
But some reason I keep going back. It's a hell hole, but I enjoy the challenge. I've gotten a lot better at it, but still that shit sucks. It's all I got for now until I move out west. A few times a year I'll get to ride out of state. This September I'm planning on riding one of the BDRs, maybe UT, NM, CO... not sure. But anyway, enough about that.
I want to say, it's nice to see someone else that's not a super human struggle like I do, and all my friends do in this stuff. It's interesting to get your perspective on it. There aren't many videos of adventure bikes in the florida sand, so this is absolutely AWESOME. It is very fucking difficult.

Hey I give you guys a lot of credit - especially with some of the craziness you encountered on this trip. Deep sand is challenging on bigger bikes, it takes a lot of focus and techniques to get through it (we have a lot up here in the Pine Barrens of NJ as well) - if you are riding through extensive sections of it, it will definitely wear you down and it just becomes tortuous to ride through after a while - so no shame there. I typically will ride small sections of it to challenge myself a bit and improve my skills, but I don't think I would enjoy riding through long stretches of it on a fully loaded bike.
    Keep fightin'!

Great video! You share some important lessons near the end. If you push your limits, that’s how you grow. But you don’t need to overdo it, and sometimes the better thing to learn is to listen to your own limits before you get hurt. Doc made the right call for him and you made the right call for you, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.

@@TheBeardedGrump Lot of places I haven’t been. I’ve not been to a McDonalds, BK, Subway, you name it, since 1999. I try to avoid garbage food, but nothing wrong with some simple ravioli and ready-made food like that when you’re camping. I try and grab a meal before I stop at camp, but most of the time there are more Dollar General’s than anything service non-fast food. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver just did a piece on them and made them look like a catastrophe, but I’m always impressed with the cooking you and your brother do so I figure I need to give them a try!

You should have gone through that at 100mph to stay on top of the sand.

@@TheBeardedGrump - even on a dr650 that is way loaded down with luggage, sand is not fun or easy. I don't have the balls to go 102 in it.

@@DeweyRides it's definitely not easy. It's the internet though and they'll always be the guy that is a pro that comments and tells you everything you did wrong and he could ride it no problem. Hell there's people that will try to tell you where you should ride or why did you do this or that. Like they are paying for it 😂
