Really IGN you put fan service as a negative in the review. For a DOA game! That makes no sense at all. Stop judging games based on what you want them to be and instead judge them based on what they are.
Joseph Villa You know there is too much fanservice right? As Ben said most of those costumes and Marie just take away from the experience. That is a bad thing.
contmike Except you are free to choose to buy those costumes. They are not pointing a gun to your head. Seriously, there is never to much fan service. To you, but not to many others.
I believe most of the players can see the fan service is going over the top bro, I love fan service in games but come on, this is just too much, it is destroying the game.
burgerkingJ Except I don't get to choose whether I want to see those costumes or not, when other players use them. I have to agree though that I was wrong with the amount of fan-service being a problem. The problem is the way it is implemented. They don't even try to balance the out-of-theme costumes with the in-theme ones. They just give out uniform costumes for every character, instead of making equal amounts of characterized costumes and uniforms. The balance is completely off with the content.
Mortal Kombat relies on gore as a selling point and no one complains, but God forbid you have Women fight in swimsuits or it becomes a moral no no, SJW's are a bunch of despicable hypocrites with no honor.
However, the thing is most people who hate on DoA reduce it to shit because they say its only about the fanservice and not the fighting. So really, if you got a hater to review this game, they would also reduce its points because of fan service...
Because the fan service takes away from the gameplay and experience. The characters that do have personalities have their uniqueness erased when you give them unrelated random costumes. And then there are filler characters, which wouldn't be so bad if the character design wasn't so corny and rudimental.
No extra story, no real extra modes. When your biggest new features in the game are smoother breast textures and a couple of characters which include a non-story schoolgirl with massive breasts then really they kinda have to mark the fan service side of things - and he didnt like what he saw in the likes of Marie Rose clearly. Still props to the guy for giving a shout to out to the robust training mode.
Marie Rose is an awesome character! She's really peppy which is fun, but more importantly, she can string together massive, damage dealing combos which is residual deceptive online.
"The fighting game experience is excellent, it's still fast and fluid and a blast to play" 7/10, cause of fan service? It seems really silly to have your personal values affect the score of the quality of a game. It's like saying, "This square cheeseburger is the most amazing thing I've ever tasted, but it's a square and I hate squares, so 7/10."
Sorry, I can't take this review seriously. Fan service is the main selling point of this fucking franchise, which is why its so popular in Japan. We have other fighters for other things, this one happens to be fan service and fast action gameplay, lol.
That is exactly the problem. I have been a fan of DOA since the DOA 3, it is a really good fighting game, and it is being ruined by this. They just throw together these cheap skimpy or random costumes, most of them are completely out of character. When you dress originally diverse characters uniformly, you just take away who they are, and for what? What is the point? They also re-add old characters most of which are basically clones of existing ones or they are not fun to play at all as it was stated in the video. If the costumes would be character specific and meaningful, and the new characters would be well thought out, I would have absolutely no problem with fan service. But the way it is implemented is ruining the game.
DoA is popoular in Japan??? THe name last round i though implies this is the last in the series becaues honestly its a dying fighting game compared to tekken and street fighter and newly MK
This game is a 9/10 I've never been in one glitch. Plus I'm not an online fighter type. I love the fan service just because I love anime which has or has not have fan services. It's how JAPANESE created it. Developers have different creativity and it's my *opinion* of that.
ekulerudamuru The gore in MK helps to solidify the style and feel of the games, while the santa and clown costumes in DOA is just random stuff. Not to mention the other completely out of character costumes like the mummy and cheerleader stuff. There is absolutely no basis for these costumes for some of the characters other than "fanservice". These are not the same.
such a terrible review. such a whiny guy complaining about character costumes and very much subjective points of criticism. DOA has always been about T&A in some form or fashion. they had their own volleyball games that basically focused on that concept for cryin out loud. this guy wants DOA to be something it is not.
he surely does want DoA to be something its kind of is and not. He wants it to be taken seriously, and if you see comments on DoA videos, its just fighter gamers hating on the fanservice, so its a justifiable deduction
No, DOA had redeemed themselves with the original release of 5. Now they have transgressed. We all know DOA is known for it's campyness, that's fine. But these additions were not applied in a coherent way.
Searching for dead or alive 5 reviews is a guarantee to get my blood boiling. Any people that actually dismiss the series because of the sex appeal or think it would be better without it are ridiculously stupid. The fan service DOES NOTHING to take away from the gameplay. DOA 5 with its Last Round iteration is the most SEXUALIZED to female characters have ever gotten and yet at the same time, it's also the most competitive and in depth the series has gotten. It's like saying Mortal Kombat is worse because it's so gory and violent. If you remove the violence, you remove part of what makes Mortal Kombat what it is.
+David Restrepo I don't think people have an issue with the gameplay. I think it's the fundamental part of interesting people into a fighting game that has gone astray. When you see a new fighting game, not everyone is drawn for the sake of fighting. Some people get drawn to a game by a single character that they think is cool. DoA characters are very different and the blatant sex appeal can cause players to reconsider why they're interested in the game in the first place. Learning to like a character sucks in a roster where you like no one.
No I totally agree. It's basically judging a book by its cover. Even in fighting games where people do have a favourite let's say, most of the roster is by and large ignored and players don't use everyone. Completely different method in trying games out and such. All I'm saying is there are people who won't look at the engine first because that's not what attracts them. Everyone should definitely try a game out for a while before passing judgement.
I love how uncomfortable Marie Rose makes that guy. Her outfits tend to be much more conservative than the other ladies.....you didn't talk about how she plays at all. She is a fun character and if you find her sexual that's your problem.
I found absolutely nothing sexual about her, lol she has like 2-3 outfits that show her stomach, that's it, nothing sexual about her.. She even has like 1 part bathing suit and not a bikini.
It's really sad to see people defending the fanservice in this game and bashing on the reviewers. First of all, there's nothing wrong with fanservice in a game. The problem is when that fanservice undermines the core gameplay of a game. DOA could easily be a well respected fighting game featured frequently in competitive scenes, but it isn't because everyone thinks of it as "the game with tits and ass". Like if fighting games were personified as women, Street Fighter would be the popular girl who's nice to everyone and knows everyone, while DOA would be the slut that's rumored to take away any guy's virginity that comes up to her. DOA fans is that really what we want? To have DOA be some slut? That said, I'm not saying to take away fanservice entirely, just not have it be the main attraction. Stop selling DOA through fanservice, but rather through exemplifying the gameplay that makes it unique from other fighting games.
Well fanservice sells more, remember when the og doa 5 came out Koei told TeamNinja to tone down the sexy stuff but "fans" went apesh*t and demanded more and so the game was relased as it is then they started releasing more sexy stuff thats when they found out that they have more income in doing so hence we get this dressed up game.. Iam a girl so i dont care about the fanservice stuff and though i agree with you and some the points that this reviewer said i think most people here was more annoyed thatabout his "commentary" about Mary Rose and to start with MR dont have the skimpy outfits that the other cast have they are more like the cutebut not sexy hot type
If you read my previous comment again you'll see that I mentioned that there's nothing wrong with fanservice. The problem comes when fanservice becomes the selling point rather than the bonus. Get it?
Exactly. When I bought DOA5 because I wanted to try something new I never expected it to have so much focus on fan-service. Sure other fighting games have some degree of fan-service but the gameplay is always more important and the reason to buy the game. Other games don't have an option to change the breast motion or the private paradise thing. It isn't really wrong or bad as you said but it shows that they focus too much on it when in reality it's just a bonus.
Tina gets fanservice? "That's okay, it's just Dead or Alive's thing!" Marie Rose fanservice? "Not my type of woman, and this sexualization doesn't belong in Dead or Alive" Deduct points
wow that's quite a bias view about how women should look and act. O_o Asian women tend to look smaller and younger [Fact], and therefore such fan service has become more acceptable in places like japan. But I guess its hard to understand that and give an objective review of a game these days. because in MY OPINION, Your ranting on cultural differences and your sexual preference HAD NO PLACE IN THIS REVIEW. Seriously great job on a jackass review, I'm sure alot of people enjoyed you downgrading Marie and "Those Types of Fans" as having no place in DOA
after a major price drop of $20, it's worth it. I love that it has DOA2 music to replace the newer music for the characters and the stages since I was a DOA fan since the Dreamcast days.
Fanservice is for DOA what violence is for Mortal Kombat. It's part of it's identity. And I don't understand why a game can't be a great fighter and have fanservice. Why would that be negative?
This game fighting mechanics are great, and I hate seeing this game not taken seriously, it must be the lack of character design it really needs some contrast and I think adding Genshin to the roster would make the game a bit more interesting.
I don't know why there are so many dislikes. I agree with the reviewer. The character designs are becoming nonsensical and random and it diminishes the personalities of already established characters. And for additional characters, they either fight like clones or don't have a sense of distinctness. Honoka is absolutely pathetic. The best they could come up with was a generic blazer and skirt and a glove?
He was saying at one point that he is disgusted with Marie rose because it represents a small girl but supposedly she is 18 and many girls in my school they look like her no big tits or even tall iam 17 and like a girl in my school same type as Marie rose is it wrong also she is 18
"Phase-4 isn't a fleshed out character" Well duh she was only introduced in the DOA5 story as a mysterious character so of course she isn't fleshed out yet.
"Ruins the mentality of a fighting game." What pisses you off more, a girl in a bunny outfit, or a girl in a bunny outfit continuously beating you? Chances are if you really are playing this game, you'll stop noticing the outfits and focus more on winning the fight. Thats just my personal thought.
So if i use Marie, does that mean underage girls appeal to me? I use her because she reminds me of lili from tekken. In terms of her fighting style, i think its great. But just because you feel she is awkward to look at doesn't mean she is a bad character. But then again, opinions will be opinions...
Makes no sense to me how it gets a lower review than doa5 vanilla got from IGN which was 8.8 so if it has even better online play and same gameplay how does it get a lower score?
Bleeding the game with DLC, moe/pseudo-loli creepiness, overabundance of fanservice to the point that you can adjust breast physics in the options menu and play with their boobs using motion control...
Good video, I have to agree with the DLC slap in the face on the main screen, I know its there, just vanish please! hah. But as for Marie Rose, i also agree, its a little odd, but i let it go because i compare her to the likes of Cammy from Street fighter, very similar outfit as in this video. Cammy became one of my all time favorites over there for a while, not saying Marie Rose will be, but i will still play her and see how it pans out.
So Marie Rose is to Dead or Alive what Miley Cyrus is / was to music industry. Every female adult can be over the top as a means to attract fans, but when younger do that, most of us just get uncomfortable.
I like this guy he makes sence also there are many 18 year old girls in my school who have small tit and short and look like Marie iam 17 so they are older than me
So guys i have the original DoA 5 on cd and was thinking about buying DOA Ultimate some time ago, but this shit came less than a year after and now i guess utimate is outdated right? so what to do? Is buying Last Round a better option?
Some advice, don't ever go to a beach if you hate this game having an 18 year old girl showing some skin. Your eyes would melt if you saw a 16 year old or younger girl in a bikini lol
i don't know about you but i'm coming back to the franchise because of Marie Rose. she's the only one without the excessive jug size, but that's just me. that said, that view on her, i couldn't disagree more on.
U actually make sense unlike others also Marie is 18 also there are girls in my school age 18 who are the same body type and height and look like Marie and me we'll iam 17 so no prob
I see how you the host reviewer feels about Marie Rose and understand his view point, especially on morality issue even though Marie Rose is officially 18. But at the same time, I don't think something should be deemed inappropriate or 'not serious' because Western culture sees and feels one way about a subject when other cultures may feel differently about it. I am not a Japanese, I do not have pedophilia, and I do not think Team Ninja is completely correct to come up with a character like Marie Rose, but also I do not think judging seriousness of a game or the maker's approach to a game upon Western viewpoint while the source of the problem is based on a culture originating from the East and have spread through out through the World (though that world is of minority groups than than majority in various countries). Using moral view point of the Western culture for the reason Marie Rose is inappropriate for DOA seems like a reason to dislike and criticize the character than a reason to criticize the game itself. Marie Rose is a character that people usually take either ends of the spectrum regarding whether they like or dislike the character. But as the guest reviewer states, she cannot be denied to have added new variety to character designs of DOA. If the reviewers were seriously talking about what may be Team Ninja's attempt to take DOA closer to Moe culture and away from so-called 'serious' direction, they really should have talked about a lot more about Honoka, than Marie Rose, whose facial design is almost a complete match with that of Marie Rose and techniques are copies of existing characters. Marie Rose cannot be denied from being the starting point of Moe code in DOA, but she is a carefully designed original character with her own techniques and skills. As a character itself, her flaw is only in the immature physique and even calling it a flaw would depend on individual perspective of whether that individual is fond of Marie Rose character or not. It also seems weird that the host reviewer mentions Honoka looks like school girl but doesn't explain how her facial design is virtually a copy of existing character(Marie Rose), which should be much more of a big deal if they are concerned about lame attempts to appeal to Moe culture. Seeing that the reviewer praises Nyotengu as fitting the existing DOA universe, I feel the host reviewer is against the recent Moe input into DOA as an old fan than as a reviewer who at least trying to be somewhat neutral. He praises Nyotengu for many things and one of it is unique. But Tengu itself is not unique in Japanese culture. It is one of the most well know mythical gods/monsters of Japan. There is no character like Marie Rose in physique and there is no school girl(Honoka) in DOA, so those two are arguably unique, especially Marie Rose when taking the fact that her techniques are original into account. To existing fans, what seems like Team Ninja's attempt to appeal to Moe culture may be something to frown than smile about. But from the producer's perspective, it is best to appeal to new consumers when the size of existing consumer population cannot honestly be said as anything but large. And it's not like Team Ninja excluded existing characters loved by fans to put in new characters that may not please those, but appeal to new consumers. (In case of my country, second hand stock of DOA5 Ultimate Arcade(DOA5U) became sold out few weeks prior to Marie Rose update and people who wanted to buy DOA5U had to buy the game at sales price unless stores provided discounts - Marie Rose update was conducted more than a year after the games release, meaning there was no reason for discounts of the game while the whole price itself would have gone down to some degree.) So appealing to Moe culture has so far done Team Ninja benefit and profit than harm and deficit. So talking about seriousness or fitting to existing universe of the game, and not accepting new characters that can work as the basis of expanding that universe to various directions seems more like an old fan's opinion that is more impractical than not for persuading the producers to turn away from Moe culture. In fact, the sequence of conversation in the review that starts with: talking about moral view point to talk about why Marie Rose is inappropriate for DOA -> Marie Rose was made to appeal to Moe culture -> Honoka also came up due to Moe culture -> Honoka is an unattractive character with copy cat moves of existing characters -> making characters that appeal to Moe culture is bad -> Team Ninja should make new characters that do not exactly fit into existing DOA universe like Nyotengu seems more of a fan's logic than a neutral review. If the reviewer was neutral he wouldn't have said so much negative comments about Marie Rose and Moe culture to the extent reviewer he himself and watchers of this commentary can clearly recognize, without mentioning the benefits Marie Rose of appeal to Moe culture contributed to the game and the producers's serious concerns (mostly economic issue-wise). Had not the guest reviewer mentioned how Marie Rose add variety to character physique design, I would not have questioned the host reviewer's words to search other sources of reviews about the character and Moe culture's impact.
How many games have been given 2 xbox 1 users ? I used 2 xbox1 since i swapped 2 ps4 keep gettting free games not 2 mention ps plus ,best descion ive made loving the order at the minute graphics and how smooth it is has my jaw on the floor
Stop letting a dude review a game who deeply cares about the clothes the characters are wearing -.-. This is one way DOA separates itself from a lot of other games in this way. And its just a GAME. It fills peoples fantasies, that's it. I don't even like fighting games, but I had to say this
This game sucks, they're just putting out the same game every year with new outfits and a few new dopey characters. The environments, character models and the lack of realistic movement look to be the same as the previous Iteration. Just look at it, after a brief combo the character pauses like a robot. If you go back and watch Soul Caliber on the original Sega Dreamcast, a 32-bit system no less, the characters looked more realistic because even when they weren't fighting they never stop fluid motion.
For Marie Rose its a Japanese culture thing their fanboys comes first not the US player base. Her as a character she is dangerous. The DLC are ok not buying any
I got bored with this review, it's just bad, most of the comments are right, fanservice on a DOA title, it's something you've come to expect in a DOA Title we are not talking of SF, Tekken, or even KOF, this is DOA, this is the game that had a trick to change the size of the chest of a girl from the the first title, it's something that its there from the beginning, it even had a fanservice full game, with DOAX, and even the games of SF are transitioning to something like this, the only one that is not doing this is KOF which is a tittle that hasn't release a new game since 2010
Oh sarcasm nice! 👌🏾 ...you can’t be serious 🤨 the characters look way better visually then the last 3 barbie doll entrees (2, 3, & 4); though DOA2:H is probably my top DOA game. Unless you’re into the Barbie doll thing (no judgement here)?
Ofcourse the new characters will be boring cause they dont have any story yet just some random background description that TeamNinja just put there for the sake of it..if anything you should be mad about that, not the fanservice or Marie Rose being awkward to you.. Im pretty sure DOA6 will flesh their stories this is more like tease for the characters.. You inly have 1 job IGN do it right!
I'm Asian and I feel the character design is normal in this game. I know Maria is a child and is like 14yo but it is legal right? Because it just only a game, or ACGN. At least I haven't saw any guys trigger crimes because of playing this game. Second I also know those girl characters' costumes has a bit skin exposed but they don't show up something that girls should not expose right ? To those of who are argue about girl's costumes, you guys didn't went to beach before ?? There are so many girls wearing bikini and only 10% of skin are covered by a cotton but when you saw the girls costumes in this game you be like "Oh man this is too over those girls are wearing too less and too short , I can't focus on the game because it makes me libido surge, oh no my that thing is erection now". And finally, if you're only talking about the fighting system in this game, please treat as I said nothing.
loved doa 2 for dreamcast. haven't played any of the other games in the series. watching them play as tina just throwing guys around makes me wanna pick this game up.
Did he really just call Rachel generic? Do your research on a character before talking crap! She has super human strength due to her fiend blood. I realise she has a few of Spartans moves, And she didnt use a sythe Vince it was the war hammer & Inferno hammer.
I see the general consensus from the comments disagrees with the 'fan service' section of the discussion, which I understand to a degree, though I was certainly put off by the Marie Rose character back when they revealed her some time last year or whenever for the same reasons discussed. I haven't bought the game yet and I believe the direction taken with that character put me off as I didn't want to represent the values of a game who had a character like that in. Quite a harsh reason not to buy but that's me being devils advocate here.
Feel the same about the damn DLC. Like the first fucking screen u see is "buy this new shit we got" Im like no i dont want to so fucking get of my screen!
Curious what this review would sound like given the game has turned into a massive T&A DLC platform. The original aesthetic has been thrown out the window...
These guys talked about the most random things. Trashed marie rose when she's a good character if you know how to use her. So I bet they'll also trash tekken 7's lucky Chloe for the same thing like a lot of people did. Then compared it to street fighter when there both similar to the fact that they've released more iterations of the same game and releasing that very same on ps4. And I say hell yea finally more fighting games on ps4. Then dlc yes they made a sign on the menu and yes it doesn't away but to me they're just asking to check it out simple as that. I mean complaining about characters when you get them for free once you get the full game is just weird. And I say free because if you didn't purchase these characters on ultimate and purchased last round you basically got them and other costumes for a free rather than buying them on core fighters. This review didn't talk about the tweaks they did from ultimate and there is a lot or the fact they added more customizable options like changing hairstyles adding glasses or the they added new music. There was much negative about the little things like how Marie Rose looks like and clone characters when street fighter has clone characters, tekken has clone characters in tekken tag 2. People still use them. Well all I know that if there is too much negative opinions on this game that they make hard to see who is really enjoying this game. Though some is reasonable like in Xbox's case like game crashing but anyway you get the gist
Boy, that tirade on Marie Rose sure went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.... seriously though... but the further I read on in the comments the funnier it gets LMAO
Sounds like a freshman in college who joined a cool new club with cool senpais that told him extremely, and intentionally bias ideas about their club. I really doubt this Vince kid (That's the whiny guy right?) doesn't even have any of his own thoughts about this game.
I am beginning to notice any game besides the AAA big budget COD style games almost never get above a 7.5 score, and for stupid reasons like RE Revelations 2 getting a 7.0 when Resident Evil Jarhead edition (5 and 6) gets above and beyond. Rate a game based on what it is, not what it is not.
Its a game from Japan they really can't win... I mean you want to do it like Tekken 7 going to do just give us the characters use Americans want or give us the whole package with the good and the bad cause if that's the case we wouldn't have characters like Marth and Roy you have to take the good and the bad (or what people consider so) from Japan
They chose the most pickest dude for this game. He thinks all the characters are generic looking or something. Not every fighter in the world can have guiles hair or crazy wacky looks to them and fighting styles. Look how real people fight, people look like normal people and fight with the same styles just different variations. I mean come on, putting down fanservice then don't be a perv and choose one of the costumes that covers your character up there are plenty of those, that's what they are there for duh. This game is a great fighter and hopefully this guy doesn't turn away people with his "too much water" review.
Ha! and what about the costume design contest team Ninja made?...many designs made it into the game and I am sure as hell even the person who designed the costume had to buy it LMAO, talk about slavery!!!
My only complaint about the fan service of this game is the boob physics at least when that move for no reason other than that DOA has always been a game when you can take it seriously.
i just want to point out that in the west we have a much higher age of consent than japan which is why you see characters like marie rose in skimpy outfits so from a western point of view it looks bad japan know this which is why they lie and say of no shes 18 as they dont want to risk getting there game banned over here.
I shouldn't even be surprised by the whole "fan service" complaint. IGN has always produced some of the most incompetent reviews I've ever seen. That said, I give these guys credit for at least elaborating on the finer points of this review. It shows some genuine effort on their part to make some actual fucking sense and actually analyze a game deeper for a change. I still haven't gotten over that bullshit Sonic Unleashed review, but after all the gaming press controversy, I'm willing to go back to IGN if they're genuinely interested in improving their content with videos like this.
Please no more review commentaries from you guys just commentary or just review. Let's talk about something we should have been addressed about the game. DOA5LR is a fun game that is destroyed worth too much expensive dlc content. I appreciate the free game worth four fighters but i don't appreciate the fact that for a solid game experience which is pretty much all the characters n story mode ( extra skins n modes not included) you will have to spend over $60 . Meaning this remake is worth more that a brand new game. N that's without bonus content. I understand skin bundles costing a little over $90 is more of a personal thing (by the way isn't the price for everything only a certain bundle of content in which is $90 bucks for the other) them the bundles n packages break up ranging from in the 50's n under all the way to the part where you pay $3.99 per character n stuff. It was a lot to bare for me cuz the fuckery was real. Anyway I'm losing track thinking about it. To me as outrageous as it is is not my problem cuz they're accessories n i don't need them to pay the game n have a good time its the part where i have to pay for all my characters n pau for my story mode n spend over 60$ on a remake just so i could get the doa experience that had not changed. ...ever. ... there's a problem with that
"Evolves store isn't shoved down my throat?" Can this guy not read the main menu screen? At the main menu there is a letter box at the top that says "check out the store". Does this guy not look at his screen when he plays games? How is he a reviewer? I will say tho, this is the most extensive research they've done on a game in a while, bcuz almost every other broken at launch game got good ratings(far cry 4, ac unity, HaloMCC).
His point was that he didn't want the game's DLC advertised to him at the main menu of all things and I kinda agree with him. The only thing more corporate than that was Mass Effect 3 ending with a "Buy more DLC!" prompt that completely zaps you outta the experience aside from just the terrible ending. Team Ninja seems to be more interested in creating more silly costumes to sell us for $2 a pop instead of creating a game that doesn't glitch out your fucking save data from the previous version. That's a priority issue if I've ever seen one.
Really IGN you put fan service as a negative in the review. For a DOA game! That makes no sense at all. Stop judging games based on what you want them to be and instead judge them based on what they are.
***** Marie is 18 thu
Reduced points for fanservice? Lol, get a straight dude to review this.
Not about him being straight or gay dude its just saying politically correct shit, because of the huge taboo over sex.
U should read my comment at the top want to hear opinion to see what people think of my thoughts
Marie Rose is an awesome character! She's really peppy which is fun, but more importantly, she can string together massive, damage dealing combos which is residual deceptive online.
(Spoilers)
It's 7/10
-Too much glitches
-Too much fan service
-It's not COD
LOL you sir made my night
+Rizky M Firdaus (The good hunter) I started laughing after "It's not COD"
"The fighting game experience is excellent, it's still fast and fluid and a blast to play" 7/10, cause of fan service? It seems really silly to have your personal values affect the score of the quality of a game.
It's like saying, "This square cheeseburger is the most amazing thing I've ever tasted, but it's a square and I hate squares, so 7/10."
I don't think there's enough fan service.
Itagaki is no longer around, that's why
Veggieburger Last round is the last in the DoA5 games
Veggieburger doa6 confirmed doax3 definite maybe
This game is a 9/10
I've never been in one glitch. Plus I'm not an online fighter type. I love the fan service just because I love anime which has or has not have fan services. It's how JAPANESE created it. Developers have different creativity and it's my *opinion* of that.
To those saying 'Fanservice is bad? it's DOA!', if your game relies on fanservice for sales or to be good, that is a BAD thing.
Hmmm you have a point but the thing is this series is what it is just like Mortal combat on gore
ekulerudamuru
Fair point
ekulerudamuru The gore in MK helps to solidify the style and feel of the games, while the santa and clown costumes in DOA is just random stuff. Not to mention the other completely out of character costumes like the mummy and cheerleader stuff. There is absolutely no basis for these costumes for some of the characters other than "fanservice". These are not the same.
Mortal Kombat relies on gore does that make it a bad game.
atlaspressed
at first it did, but after awhile it's gameplay and even it's Story started taking front and center.
such a terrible review. such a whiny guy complaining about character costumes and very much subjective points of criticism.
Why is nobody talking about the fact that this game does not work on Xbox one
Well said, people dont see to get it Luis
*underrated comment
Fan service overload.....really? this is DOA
I'm having a feeling the comment section would go nuts on that point when it's up in RUclips.
Isn't this the guy that gave Evolve a 9/10?
Omelette Du Fromage It's pretty much the MAIN point of this video
I cant seem tot get the review video working on the IGN site,,
Oh no, not fan service - said no one ever
Tina gets fanservice?
"That's okay, it's just Dead or Alive's thing!"
Marie Rose fanservice?
"Not my type of woman, and this sexualization doesn't belong in Dead or Alive"
Deduct points
Marie Rose being underage is a somewhat morally important distinction.
IGN should have more of these in depth reviews. I have a new appreciation for this game after this commentary.
WTF with the Marie Rose obsession!? Did his wife catch him in camera mode and this is his on record apology.
He tries to scrub the shame every night
+TheMrbadhatter Lol! Best comment on here
Umm... I actually agreed with him
wow that's quite a bias view about how women should look and act. O_o
Asian women tend to look smaller and younger [Fact], and therefore such fan service has become more acceptable in places like japan.
Rachelle looks the way she does because she's a Ninja Gaiden character. She's a demon hunter.
Fanservice is for DOA what violence is for Mortal Kombat. It's part of it's identity. And I don't understand why a game can't be a great fighter and have fanservice. Why would that be negative?
Never played DOA, but this review is a joke.
Anyways it would be cool if Tifa Lockhart appeared as a fighter.
+AveryChu Yes Yes, why hasn't this happened yet, yes!!!!
There is a Tifa Lockheart mod for Kasumi, The Original FFVII Costume.
You know damn well the pc players modded the sht out of this game just like Skyrim dragonporn lol
You don't even gotta look to know that.
ShadowWolfRising Its not out yet on pc
Jamar Ely
but you know people are gonna do it, again don't even have to look to know.
Yup
Jamar Ely pretty sure emulated versions came out on pc before any concoles
"Ruins the mentality of a fighting game." What pisses you off more, a girl in a bunny outfit, or a girl in a bunny outfit continuously beating you?
Chances are if you really are playing this game, you'll stop noticing the outfits and focus more on winning the fight.
Thats just my personal thought.
So if i use Marie, does that mean underage girls appeal to me? I use her because she reminds me of lili from tekken. In terms of her fighting style, i think its great. But just because you feel she is awkward to look at doesn't mean she is a bad character. But then again, opinions will be opinions...
Ha ha ha! Really
Dead or alive 2 on PS2 used to be one of my favorite games!
Marie Rose is 18 years old and her character depicts Gothic Lolita fashion which is a sub-culture in Japan. Dumb review imo.
So Marie Rose is to Dead or Alive what Miley Cyrus is / was to music industry. Every female adult can be over the top as a means to attract fans, but when younger do that, most of us just get uncomfortable.
I like this guy he makes sence also there are many 18 year old girls in my school who have small tit and short and look like Marie iam 17 so they are older than me
I wonder if people bitched about DOA2 having actual nudity?
In fact, the sequence of conversation in the review that starts with:
talking about moral view point to talk about why Marie Rose is inappropriate for DOA -> Marie Rose was made to appeal to Moe culture -> Honoka also came up due to Moe culture -> Honoka is an unattractive character with copy cat moves of existing characters -> making characters that appeal to Moe culture is bad -> Team Ninja should make new characters that do not exactly fit into existing DOA universe like Nyotengu seems more of a fan's logic than a neutral review.
Dude, it's like you're defending your post-grad thesis or something. Chill thyself.
since when is fan service a bad thing?
He turned off jiggle xD
Sorry for misspells auto correct :(
How many games have been given 2 xbox 1 users ?
Soul Calibur for the Sega Genesis.
do you even know what you are talking about?
For Marie Rose its a Japanese culture thing their fanboys comes first not the US player base. Her as a character she is dangerous. The DLC are ok not buying any
I got bored with this review, it's just bad, most of the comments are right, fanservice on a DOA title, it's something you've come to expect in a DOA Title we are not talking of SF, Tekken, or even KOF, this is DOA, this is the game that had a trick to change the size of the chest of a girl from the the first title, it's something that its there from the beginning, it even had a fanservice full game, with DOAX, and even the games of SF are transitioning to something like this, the only one that is not doing this is KOF which is a tittle that hasn't release a new game since 2010
Dead or Alive 5: Last Round "Why I hate loli Marie Rose" Commentary
I feel like the graphics haven't changed since DoA 3
Oh sarcasm nice! 👌🏾 ...you can’t be serious 🤨 the characters look way better visually then the last 3 barbie doll entrees (2, 3, & 4); though DOA2:H is probably my top DOA game.
Unless you’re into the Barbie doll thing (no judgement here)?
fan service cant be a reason
you wont want to play with 2 identical characters fighting each other everytime
This... This is why people laugh at you, IGN.
Review commentary? But where is the official review?
Yeah.... wondering if there will be a new Virtua Fighter for this new generation of consoles.
I give it 8.7/10
+Flesh N Bone 716 I hate decimals
Wuddup Stan Howse?!
Another "great" review by IGN
When I play this I would really love to play a version of Virtua Fighter for current gen also.
I WANNA MAKE MY OWN HENTAI DEAD OR ALIVE!!"
Like the first fucking screen u see is "buy this new shit we got"
Im like no i dont want to so fucking get of my screen!
'Leon feels like a pallette swap of Bayman' HAHHAHAHAH
Boy, that tirade on Marie Rose sure went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.... seriously though... but the further I read on in the comments the funnier it gets LMAO
"Too many costumes, 1/10" -IGN
Sounds like a freshman in college who joined a cool new club with cool senpais that told him extremely, and intentionally bias ideas about their club. I really doubt this Vince kid (That's the whiny guy right?) doesn't even have any of his own thoughts about this game.
I am beginning to notice any game besides the AAA big budget COD style games almost never get above a 7.5 score, and for stupid reasons like RE Revelations 2 getting a 7.0 when Resident Evil Jarhead edition (5 and 6) gets above and beyond. Rate a game based on what it is, not what it is not.
Lmao Resident Evil Jarhead Edition
MY GAME RIGHT HERE
marie rose is like a hard mode for doa
Its a game from Japan they really can't win... I mean you want to do it like Tekken 7 going to do just give us the characters use Americans want or give us the whole package with the good and the bad cause if that's the case we wouldn't have characters like Marth and Roy you have to take the good and the bad (or what people consider so) from Japan
Yeah, I'm really sure most ppl came here for Honaka.
I wonder how underage girls feel when we berate them and get so touchy about things pertaining to them
They chose the most pickest dude for this game.
If u spend some time this is the funnest fighting game out at rn
30+ costumes for female characters...males have about 15 at max.
I fuckin love DOA 5 LR
Ha! and what about the costume design contest team Ninja made?...many designs made it into the game and I am sure as hell even the person who designed the costume had to buy it LMAO, talk about slavery!!!
What is this guy for real this game is fucking awesome
My only complaint about the fan service of this game is the boob physics at least when that move for no reason other than that DOA has always been a game when you can take it seriously.
i just want to point out that in the west we have a much higher age of consent than japan which is why you see characters like marie rose in skimpy outfits so from a western point of view it looks bad japan know this which is why they lie and say of no shes 18 as they dont want to risk getting there game banned over here.
Xbox 1 triggers still doesn't work LOL
"Too much fighting, too few bikinis 5/10" - IGN
4.9*
too much fan service
7.0 / 10
I shouldn't even be surprised by the whole "fan service" complaint. IGN has always produced some of the most incompetent reviews I've ever seen. That said, I give these guys credit for at least elaborating on the finer points of this review. It shows some genuine effort on their part to make some actual fucking sense and actually analyze a game deeper for a change. I still haven't gotten over that bullshit Sonic Unleashed review, but after all the gaming press controversy, I'm willing to go back to IGN if they're genuinely interested in improving their content with videos like this.
Honoka is actually really good lmao.
7.8
-Too much fan service.
isn't Marie Rose like 34 or something? not like she's actually underage or anything
That kid ain't 34 years old. Come on.....
PadMasher she's 18
Mike Trigo
She sure doesn't look like it. :p
Best 3D Fighting Games = DOA, Tekken
Best 2D Fighting Games = Street Fighter, KOF and Guilty Gear
sorry MK and Smash fans
Too much fan service?????? this is DOA....the game is all about fan service, ign's review on games is starting to irritate me to the bone now.
Phase 4 is completly different from Katsumi and Alpha. More started using her. But review wise it was meh...
This review is almost as awful as omega ruby and alpha sapphire when they said there was to much water and gave it a 7.
Too much fan service........ GG IGN.
