I have so many fond memories of that place as a kid. Joe Brown’s is the only tenant that has been there since the very beginning. In the basement of the Newberry’s (Dollar Tree) there used to be a pet shop that was selling a live monkey they had in the window. So in its heyday you could literally buy a monkey at that mall.

I completely disagree with the phone point, but that aside I feel like the pandemic really was the nail in the coffin for a lot of shopping centers. I went to Lloyd very frequently in 2018/19 and it was always packed, lines out of the stores. That and Clackamas were probably the biggest malls in that area of the city. During the pandemic nobody felt safe at malls and everyone saw a huge increase in online shopping, sales went up by millions. After that everyone kind of chose Clackamas as ''the mall" and nobody I knew would've chosen Lloyd over it.

3:24 Kassab jewelers. 3:37 Sears 2 floors.( Penny's before that). 3:53 Marshalls. (There was a Ross near the DMV). 4:27 The Men's Wearhouse. Super Shots didn't last long it was Ben Bridge Jewelers. 5:22 DMV was gone a long time. And no, there were not wait times of hours at any Portland DMV. They were the most professional and fastest anywhere. Somewhere in your panning was a Forever 21 and a Sunglasses Hut. 6:02 was a pet store. 6:11 Spencer Gifts. 6:47 didn't last long. Never heard of it. 7:10 I think was a Starbucks, formerly a high end knife and cutlery joint. (Camelot?) 7:48 Orange Julius and Van Duyn chocolates. 8:12 a toy store with science toys, kits, models, etc. 8:23 Red Wing Shoes. 8:50 mall customer service. 9:03 Macy's 3 floors.9:17 don't know DEB but formerly a record and CD store. 9:24 optical to the left and Nordstrom on the back wall (3 floors) 9:54 theaters at the back, TILT arcade next to it. Food court had changes over the years. There was a great Indian place, Let's Talk Turkey, taco hell or taco slime, mcdees, a good Italian fast food place, teriyaki, Chinese, many others. 11:53 they cut the ice skating rink in half in the disastrous bankrupting remodel they did a few years ago, the death knell of Lloyd Center. 12:35 if you hang out there for a little while you will still see a few birds. 12:09 as-seen-on-tv store. 14:03 every vendor that wasn't a corporate whore store would vie for your attention with tasty samples. 14:48 if you didn't want to deal with the lines and pissy public restrooms in the food court you coukd go down that hall to the one near the professional offices.15:04 Orange Julius moved to the food court from the lower level. 15:58 that ice rink is 1/3 the size of the old one. There was a nice candy store behind it. 16:50 I think that was the luggage store. 17:48 one of those was RadioShack. 17:54 all those theft detectors wow. 18:15 Kay Jewelers, no way was Jamba Juice that big it was just the kiosk. 19:15 there were so many clothing and shoe stores. 20:04 Super Cuts. 21:18 Suncoast was cool. There was a Eddie Bauer to the left of that after the KB Toys. 21:58 the other side of Marshalls was Sears before that it was JCPenney's. 22:05 there was the upper entrance for Stanford's restaurant there. So that is gone too.

When I lived there the neighborhood was completely safe. There was a brand new modern movie theater that was nearby also. I wonder if thats even still open? The middle of the mall is still strong --- Barnes and Noble, Forever 21, Ross and the ice rink. Its the wings that are dying except for Ulta. The downfall of the Lloyd Center wasn't just online shopping and the pandemic, but also the expensive renovation they did about 5 years ago that made them have to raise the rents. It was a bad idea. I know the person who was hired to redesign it. Beautiful job, but made the rents too high for many of the stores to stay.

As a kid in the 60's, my Dad would load us up in the station wagon in Hillsboro and we'd drive into Portland to LC for some Christmas fun. We'd walk the entire mall and enjoy the music, decorations and the skaters and always got a box of caramel corn for the ride home. In 1981, I rented an apartment, 3 blocks away from there and used to go watch kids playing organized hockey at the rink(it was a full size rink back then.) At night, my roommate and I, would skateboard through the parking garage. Across Broadway there was an Engine House Pizza parlor where we ate a lot of pizza and played video games. Those were the days!
I think the main reason no one wants to hand out at LC anymore is because Portland is a mess. Crime and homeless all over that town and nobody wants to drive into town and have their car messed with. Also, Washington Square mall and Clackamas Town Center are still viable choices if you like shopping malls, although Sears is gone, which sucks.

On the top floor of the old Marshalls, I noticed that some people inside (including a child) with some clothes inside. And also, it is pretty interesting that there was a DMV there. Apparently, the office has been closed for nearly a decade. Lloyd center has been going down hill for a very long time. The begining of the end started when the started to lose all their anchor stores like JC penny then Meier and Frank sold out to some other company and Sears left and then Nordstrom. I was the manager of the Excalibur Cutlery store in Lloyd Center (for ten years) but when Washington Sq. forced us out by selling our spot to some one else and not letting us use a different spot we closed that store and then had to declare bankruptcy since the Washington Sq. store was our A store, but even before that Lloyd mall was going down hill. It's very sad I can remember when I was a kid Lloyd mall was great with all kinds of toy stores and department stores. That end of the mall you showed at first was mostly clothing stores and shoe stores (and a pet store and a couple of board game stores).
