    your videos are the best. the editing is fantastic. The seem-less transition from one tone to the next makes it great to get a real comparison of the tones. Plus you use quick 10 to 15 second riffs which really makes it better to hear tone differences. Thank you so much for this and all your videos!

    These are the holy grail of strings for me. I went from DR lowrider nickles -> GHS Pressurewounds -> these. They feel great, kill string noise and are still pretty bright. I am playing a "jazz" style 4 string bass so that probably had something to do with it, but I don't remember my E string being this tight and punchy before with the other brands.

    Hands down, my favorite bass strings. The 50-105 (2812) set is my go-to. That set has the perfect amount of tension to allow me to tune down to D standard with my current band without being overly stiff. I use them on my P's, J's, and even my Rickenbacker 4003.

    Damn, you make these sound great! I heard EB's own demo videos and thought they sounded like crap. I think I'm going to have to try them for myself after hearing them here.
    I prefer flats a lot of the time, but I want a bit more bite on one bass. I don't like the feel of rounds and they're a bit too "metallic" for me a lot of the time so it seems like these might get me a nice compromise. I tried groundwounds hoping for a compromise like this but found them to be the "worst of both worlds" rather than the best of both.

      I was also a bit disappointed after watching EB’s own video, but after reading so many positive reviews about these strings I decided to give them a try myself 😄 Thanks for watching!

    These have just usurped Roto flats as my favourite flatwounds, they’re not quite as bright as fresh out the pack Roto’s, but they also don’t seem to lose the zing after literally like 4 hours playing like the Roto’s always do, and there’s no harmonic or intonation weirdness like the the Roto’s
    These are the only flats I’ve ever played where setting the intonation up doesn’t seem to be a compromise between being correct at the bottom of the neck, or correct up the top end.

    How are things half a year later? Are you still using them? I've read that when they die, they die very quickly but up to that point people seem to be satisfied with them. My current favorite flats are GHS Precision Flats, but they are a bit more old school than these. Looking for Flats for my Stingray to get in the Chic territory but not too thumpy.

      @IvanBassist  3 года назад +2

      Mine have some rust on them at the moment, but I don’t remember how long It took for that. A couple months, I think. These definitions have a more “roundwound-tone” compares to the GHS ones.

    Hi Ivan! Great review! Thanks :)
    I was wondering if your cobalt flats are causing any aggressive fret wear on your bass?
    I've read that cobalts, just like stainless steel strings may be quite abrasive for nickel frets. What's your experience with them? You've had them on for about 6 months right?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Ivan, I was wondering if you had any trouble setting these up on your short scale, or noticed any issues come up after having them on for a while? I have a string through short scale bass that i’d live to try these on. EB have recently announced a short scale version of these strings, unfortunately they don’t make them in my preferred gauge, 45-100. Could I give the long scale 45-100 set a try, or would I be better of settling for the short scale 45-105? If anyone else has advice or an opinion, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

    I tried them on my Stingray 5 HH a couple years ago. Overall I really liked them, but they did considerably neuter the low end growl of my Stingray, especially on the B string. Where I really liked the Cobalt flats was when playing with acoustic guitar in a coffee house setting, the smoother yet still bitey sound really worked well, but on a big stage I just missed that low end growl way too much. I mean that was the whole reason I bought a Stingray to begin with! So I switched back to the Cobalt round wounds.

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  4 года назад

      Interesting! If anything, i’ve noticed a fuller low end on this bass with these strings, but every bass is different. Happy that the roundwound cobalts are working for you! :)!

    • @michaelkeefer4293
      @michaelkeefer4293 4 года назад

      IvanBassist I agree, the low end is fuller, that wasn’t the issue, the Cobalt flats just seemed to suppress the harmonics on the Stingray that gives it that signature growl. Which to me, defeated the purpose of owning a Stingray. I did put them on my mid 80s Japanese Fender P bass and they’re great on that bass.

    Great video Ivan. I just recently discovered these strings. Been a roundwound user for years and years and although I've dabbled in the flat wound arena a few times nothing really stuck for me. The strings however seem to be the perfect mix of the round wound tone but with the punch and smoothness of a flat. Love the bounce and flexibility. I'm really blown away every time I play up on the G or D strings at how full and fat they sound. And all this is on my Jazz bass, can't wait to put them on my P.
