I have a very strong nostalgia for the opening ads that played at the beginning of the Jurassic Park and The Mummy VHS tapes. Land Before Time 2 as well. Kinda makes me want to buy some copies.
I lived during the great streaming transition, I am the one who rode his bike to the video store to rent sometimes they come back. VHS will never die .
I also still buy VHS tapes. I was born in 78, so VHS was very big part of my childhood. I have original tapes around 250 pcs. The first Halloween I bought in the mid 90's, and I still have it. Elm Street movies I have parts 1-5 and few Freddy's Nightmares (original VHS tapes). Friday the 13th parts 1-6 and 9 (original VHS tapes). I do have Elm Street movies on dvd and blu-ray and Friday the 13th movies on dvd. Also Halloween movies I have on dvd. It's nice to see them on widescreen and HD (Elm Street) using my projector, but there's something "warm" and nostalgic watching them on VHS. Happy new year. Greetings from Finland.
I collect them to watch them. It just a great way to spend time by setting up a large CRT tube, video recorder and a selection of tapes to watch with friends during the weekend. Standard definition on the correct screen is still awesome and when you use an early 80’s tube the colors are so vivid.
Not only do I enjoy watching VHS movies I purchased in my high school or college years, I still scoop up VHS movies from local thrift stores (Goodwill, Value Village, and Salvation Army Thrift Stores) for roughly a dollar each and play them in thrift store-purchased JVC Super VHS ET VCRs that I got for as little a $5 each to a maximum of $14.99 each (compared to their original retail prices of over $500 or more per unit back in the day) and I also play movies in my eBay-purchased VHS camcorders for some extra nostalgic fun. In fact, I watched Universal Pictures' 'Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein' on VHS several months ago using one of my Panasonic VHS camcorders hooked up to a free Panasonic LCD TV (that a neighbour had thrown out one garbage night) and had an absolute blast. :)
Another reason, is VHS is technically not obsolete. Meaning, that there are some movies that are only on VHS and have not been remastered to a more modern format like blu ray. Cinemassacre pointed this out in a video and I belive Red Letter Media has some things in their collection that are only on VHS
There is also the reverse due to bootlegging, modern titles converted from a more modern format to VHS, resulting in a unofficial bootleg release that was never officially released for VHS (which still goes on to this day somewhere in the world)
I've enjoyed watching plenty of VHS movies projected onto my 120 inch projection screen while listening to them using a 5.1 surround sound system and not once did I wish the resolution had been sharper or the sound more engaging. For example, I watched Disney's 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' (1937) and was blown away by how beautiful that VHS tape looked, by how sharp the images were, by how vibrant the colours were, and by how terrific the voices and music sounded. So, VHS tapes are not garbage at all if movies are released by reputable companies (versus public domain transfers which are mostly awful, washed out, etc.). :)
Why do i collect vhs tapes? Because i love ❤️ the vhs format.I always will.I even collect vhs players.Nothing like putting a vhs tape in my vcr and eating popcorn 🍿 🙂✌🏻❤️🍿
I use to collect old Vhs kung fu movies up to the mid-2000s, but got rid of them. I liked the box art because back in the day the presentation, graphics, and cover mattered. Now they are just lazy with modern releases unless it's an indie label or special edition.
From New York USA here. Here the VHS collecting is niche but it's alive and well. The most collectible is horror which usually commands the higher prices. I have like 2,000 VHS my Holy Grail are 250 VHS imported from Venezuela. Long live VHS!🫡
VHS was the format that started it all for me as a film fan and collector and admittedly even today I watch a film on VHS quality every now and then where you can clearly see the difference but that's just nostalgia if you didn't grow up with it it's hard to do anything with it or generally with the physical media 😜📼 I personally wouldn't want to go back that far, but as I said, it's fine as a little journey back in time.
It is true! Fire stick TV connects to HDMI TO S-video converter and installing Kodi on Fire stick allows to "cast" videos from your phone while preserving aspect ratios. Hope you have a nice day, enjoyed the video!
@@patg108 component is an option so is S-video. I tried both and S-video looks better than component on my TV because the colors on component look dull even though it's sharper
I don't find VHS to be awful in terms of video or sound quality. Granted, the video quality is not as sharp as DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K, but it's reaching a point with 4K specifically where too much detail detracts from movies of the 70s and 80s, especially for horror or sci-fi movies where any flaws in makeup effects or matte paintings or blue screen or green screen compositing, etc. become far more apparent. VHS resolution hid a multitude of sins visually-speaking. :)
I collect Monterrey Midnight Madness vhs tapes. The Brain 1962 by Freddie Francis is one such title on this label. It is NTSC from the USA and big box. It goes for about AUD$180. This title is collectable, plus my LG Dvd/vcr combo broke down a few years ago. Cheers.

VHS actually has a resolution of 240 horizontal lines. Those of which should probably be seen on a CRT as that's the technology they were made to be seen on. Then they actually look pretty good, they don't shine on a CRT TV like DVD and LaserDisc does, but they are okay. In addition, hifi stereo tapes are remarkably good in terms of audio quality but prone to dropouts more than the linear tracks (those of which are admittedly crap quality).
I still buying vhs tapes off eBay 7 days off the week more healthy on my VHS tapes than Disney plus vhs tapes keeps me moving more greater than Disney plus does

I collect wacky and weird VHS. Not your regular normie fare. Not blockbusters, not horror, not even movies. But obscure things like instructional lawnmower tapes, or dog grooming tapes. The more obscure and esoteric, the better.
fun fact, VHS isn't always even 480p, and later versions of it S-VHS can do up to 1080p. And you could get around the sound quality by using external speakers with RCA connections (or conversion to them), which is physically the same as composite and component. And there is upscaling players (often as combo players for DVD/VHS) that help it look much better on a LCD tv, though of course VHS is best viewed on a CRT with its best input option it can use. The point of collecting is for those who want to use that setup, to have the boxart, to preserve a bit of history and versions. There is also always the potential to save oddball recordings from recorded vhs (show, movie or commercials) Not everything is available via other popular formats or even on the internet as there is more or less a war against old content of sorts. But for the everyday practical person who wants to watch normal movies that aren't obscure exclusive oddballs then DVD or Blu ray and streaming services are far more practical. VHS has tons of exclusives (though it'd be very hard to compile a list of what only available on VHS and not other formats or services as those change up their offerings all the time, not to mention uploads to youtube and its clones among other sites) Though even with all the oddball websites that offer tons of content not everything would be available even through those. Sounds like the channel owner needs to do some research on what VHS actually was like and what it was truely capable of.
also there's a difference in how VHS is stored in terms of collecting to collect and to show off. showing off the front covers is not the most space efficient and thus isn't collecting to collect every vhs tape you can find that you want. Thus its collecting to show off. But placing them so only the end label is visible and using every bit of space they can fit into is collecting to collect (even if not necessarily to own everything but just the ones that have a a interest in being watched) And all the flashing lights is unnecessary and may well technically degrade their covers faster over time
"Inferior versions of films" 😂 I won't even bother watching this video. Just like with audio formats, better and worse are 100% subjective. You're confusing higher fidelity/higher resolution with "superior."
