As an owner of 1997 coupe I must disagree with your daily driver comments and your assessment of the LS1 reliability. I currently have 321,000 miles. Routine maintenance with Mobile1 ,AC Delco filters and plugs. 30 miles per gallon on the highway. Every day driver. No complaints here. The usual normal wear and tear.
Wow that is an amazing testament to the LS1. The thing with this video is, the guy doesn't actually own this car. I prefer content from actual car owners and their opinions, not from some guy that's just read a few comments or reviews on the internet. From my research ( I am in the market to buy for last few months), the C5 is amazing value for an American true muscle car.
Unfortunately / fortunately for you, you will never be able to sell it due to the mileage. Or if you did sell it, probably never get what it should be worth.
I will say as an owner of a C5, this video was rather entertaining to say the least. Only thing I strongly disagree with was the very first "bad" point you stated...not a good daily driver. I live in the middle of nowhere TN and the roads aren't the greatest BUT blind spots as long as you physically turn your head around are nonexistent almost. and as for not being able to haul stuff. I've fit a 7ft tall ladder in mine so I could hang some Christmas decorations. Lmao As for MPG, driving daily I'm getting around 24-25 City/Highway combined. Of course though I'm driving a lot of Highway miles as an automatic transmission. Other than those points I do love the video! :)
Thanks so much for your support man! I know it’s definitely possible to daily drive something like a corvette but just compared to your average daily it’s a bit more difficult haha.
I will go ahead and pile on like the rest of the comments. I like the video. The gas mileage comment was just incorrect. On the last long trip that I took in the Corvette I got 31 miles to the gallon in sixth gear. I was doing 75 all the way.
As someone who daily drives a C5 corvette since I’ve been 18 and on lowering bolts…with a splitter you just gotta learn to take your angles on speed bumps and you’ll be fine. I’ve had some terrible scrapes though, I’ve just come to terms with it if I want it 2 inches off the ground. And for a 3rd seat I’d just shove someone in the trunk lmfao
It was hard to hear the front plastic airdam scraping every time I backed out of my sloped driveway. But the engineers designed that plastic airdam to take lots of abuse and owners manual says to except it to scrape. I still always try to find the perfect angle but it always scrapes,
Nice car, very comfortable even for a long trips, reliable and good looking. Fuel economy 20/30mpg. If you buy one remove steering wheel lock pin, replace harmonic balancer with the racing one and upgrade schocks with the ones from c6. BT radio is a good idea too. And don't forget about HD light bulbs.
Good video, a couple things I've observed from the c5: gas mileage is actually really good considering the kind of car it is. Take a look at the forums, guys pull high 20s or low 30s on the highway. It's rated from the factory at 28 mpg. Also as far as engine reliability, the newest c5 is almost 20 years old it stands to reason that things would break down. The fact that so many are still on the road says more about how well they are built. The rest I pretty much agree with. Solid video man. C5 vettes are awesome. Get them before their market blows up.
This channel is slept on heavily. Super genuine guy with fantastic car knowledge, all while being entertaining. Can't wait to see the channel blow up in popularity.
Pretty good summary. I'm 5 years in with mine and still loving it. Its my daily right now and I get about 22mpg, can still make home depot runs with the large trunk, and my kid gets to be the cool kid at school getting dropped off in a corvette
Just bought a FIxed roof coupe, with a upgraded clutch and short throw, the car is pretty difficult to daily drive if you do a lot of in town driving. My other car is a built 97 Z28, makes 430whp with just about every mod you can list, and it’s significantly easier to drive. With that being said, when I went for the test drive and came back, he asked me how I liked it, I said, Hard to drive, hard to see outta, scrapes everywhere, hard to live with everyday, I’ll take it 😂👌. That’s how I like my vehicles haha. The HUD and the pop ups made me fall in love, it’s like a spaceship compared to my Z. Awesome machine 🇺🇸.
Agree with the positives. Disagree with the majority of your negatives. The steering column issue is addressed in the large majority of these cars 20 to 25 years after production. The LMC5 for $40 will fix the locking issue. Most owners have done this. Garage queen cars are the ones you have to worry about. Daily driving is just fine depending on the climate in the state you live in. I drove one as a daily for 7 years in SoCal. As did two of my close friends. Gas mileage is fantastic for a 350+ HP V8. In stock form 24 to 32 mpg when driven conservatively. If your serpentine belt is squeaking you have an issue with a pully. 95% of the time it's the harmonic balancer which is walking on you due to wear on a poorly designed OEM balancer. Luggage room is great for a two seater sports car. I brought a 9 ft Christmas tree (out the hatch- in coupe) home in one 3 years in a row. My FRC was a different story. No getting a tree through the trunk. I've owned 3 C5s, still have the one I bought in SoCal brand new when I was 25 (140k miles now) and never had a brake failure on any of them (over 250k miles of driving between the three). My brothers both owned C5s in their 20's through their 30s (100k miles +) and never had a brake failure. LS motors are known for having a weak #7 cylinder. Primary cause for failure is over revving. Which I've done...twice. Fully forged internals fixed that issue. A "driver mod" would have prevented this. ;)
I appreciate the advice man, I usually just take common problems I see in forums and RUclips videos and put it in here, obviously it’s not always 100% correct so I apologize

Yes, the one with the factory carbon fiber hood and stripes. As an owner of one of these we rarely see videos of them. This made the video for me but in general, the whole video was great!
Don't take advice or input from non-owners. I daily drove a c5 z06 in West Virginia. There's a huge difference between the base and the z06, get the z06. They had some faulty valve springs, you can pull the oil fill cap and check the paint marker color to see if they need changed. And you'll want to do a column lock delete bc sometimes the solenoid will automatically lock and along with not being able to steer it kills the fuel pump. Go have fun!
LS have always been reliable. I drove a 1998 SS Camaro LS1 for 100K plus miles as a daily driver for 10 years. And now I drive a LS2 in a C5 Z06 for the last year and it’s also very reliable.

The C5 gets 30mpg. I dailyed mine all of the time until my slave cylinder went out. The factory shocks do suck, especially for their age now. Once I installed Bilstein shocks, it drove a lot better and definitely handles better. Also, it's not the belt that's the problem, it's the harmonic balancer that's the issue. Just upgrade it to an aftermarket one and it will never go bad again. There is a Corvette at the Corvette Museum that has over 750,000 miles on the original engine. Enjoyed the video. Would have to disagree with the LS reliability. If you drive it like a camry it will be 100% reliable and never blow up. The only real difference between an LS1 and a Silverado motor is that it is an aluminum block. Now if you are trying to build it and think you don't need to upgrade the internals going for crazy power, then it might be a problem.
I have an '04 Z06 Commemorative Edition. The only thing I dislike about the car is that I can't drive it during its six-month hibernation in my garage.
I want to know more about the black and gold corvette. Who owns it and is there more on the RUclips about it. I love the look and. wonder about the text in the rear window. Västerås, that is a town in Sweden wereI live.
My mom used to have a 2004 with the 6 speed manual makes me sad everytime I see one she sold it a long time ago but I see a shit ton of them where I live
Lol you don't know much do you ? It's a perfect daily driver because it can get up to like 25-30mpgs... You can drive it in winter too just get good snow tires. Trunk space is very generous at 25 ft³ ,new Honda Accord has only 16.7 ft³.
The LS1 is known for having rear mail seal leakages ($3000) along with leaky differentials (~$1500), which is what I experienced. I also had to replace a torque tube ($1000). Other than that, I loved the car & working on getting another one to customize.
A Corvette for under 10,000 ??? Where! All the ones around me are 15 or 12 grand and the really cheap ones that are 6 grand are completely beat up. I'd say 18 grand is a good starting point for a good one low miles
There is a whole club in Florida that all own c7s and now c8s that are all I'm going to say mostly black bc idk about all their members, but the video I seen last year didnt show anyone other then black men and women. And I know were I live here in the south a few tia people own c5s and c6s.
Great entertaining video but I have to disagree with a lot of what you said. The first being you can pick one up for under $10,000, that's very rare. Any one selling a c5 for under $10,000 is probably sell a car with a lot of problems or they don't know what they have. Next you stated that the c5 is a bad daily driver, I've been daily drivering mine since 2008 with no problems! You also stated that you can't fit a tv in the trunk of a C5, I did exactly that. A 52" LCD TV can fit in a C5 Coupe! I could go on but I'll just leave it at that. One thing I do agree with you on is the popularity is growing quickly.
No engine is 100% indestructible (minus a Toyota). The LS is one of the most reliable engine platforms around. U can put hundreds of thousands of miles on them. All motors require maintenance
No I agree with your dad. If your have to convince your dad Your clearly not ready especially for a manual. If you don't know how to properly drive it's a no no

What? Bad gas mileage? These get almost 30 mpg on the hwy...what the frick do mean? It's hands down the junkiest car to come out of GM, but the grin factor never ceases.
Bad gas mileage?? Are you serious? I own the 2004 Z06, the one that is the worst on mileage, and have many times done a touch over 500 mile trips at 75 mph cruising speeds on a single tank with a little distance to spare. A Mazda Miata, for comparison, does a meagre 1mpg better and is (at 180hp), less than half of the 405hp that my car has. Will it go through more fuel at full throttle? Sure, but at 4.2 0-60, 12.3 in the 1/4 mile and a 173mph top end, it also leaves many cars behind that think they are fast, and that is bone stock. Mods for this car are super easy and plentiful. The video is entertaining, but obviously from the point of view of being all 2nd hand info and hear-say, not personal experience.
Under 10k?!? HA. These cars are exploding in popularity because we are looking at 20k to comfortably find even a base model. I'm 12 months away from owning one but I've been religiously searching lol. Now and then some deals come up under 20k. I worry 30k will be the normal in a year.
I agree, I have 160k on mine.
I have an '04 Z06 Commemorative Edition. The only thing I dislike about the car is that I can't drive it during its six-month hibernation in my garage.
4:03 i love this car. it’s the targa top but with the zo6 brake vents! this is what i want to do to mine 👍
More content pls love ur car we have a base c5 love it
The LS1 is known for having rear mail seal leakages ($3000) along with leaky differentials (~$1500), which is what I experienced. I also had to replace a torque tube ($1000). Other than that, I loved the car & working on getting another one to customize.
At 312,000 miles I started to get a drop occasionally from the rear seal
@@geneknight5194 Wow, you got a good one!
Sadly, the "under 10 Grand" is only working for USA. In Europe the cheapest of the cheapest is over 25 thousand euros
I daily drive mine and it’s perfect for my needs. gas isn’t that bad on the highway you can get over 20 miles per gallon
Just picked up a c5zo6 with 49k miles 🤙
Yes sir, a c5 corvette
Yessirrr
LESS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks man been waiting for this one :D
Haha yessirrr glad to help
It doesn’t have bad gas mileage it gets like twenty some miles a gallon 👉👍
A Corvette for under 10,000 ??? Where! All the ones around me are 15 or 12 grand and the really cheap ones that are 6 grand are completely beat up. I'd say 18 grand is a good starting point for a good one low miles
Yes siiir c5 babbbbbby
Yessirrrr
Bad gas mileage lol. I get 27 to 30 mpg. I drive it daily and I don’t race it
Nice uneven exhaust tips on that black vette
I have an important question for you I need wiper switch for my 2000 to see five Chevy Corvette could you please help me locate this
Old white guy???? I'm a black woman 😊
There is a whole club in Florida that all own c7s and now c8s that are all I'm going to say mostly black bc idk about all their members, but the video I seen last year didnt show anyone other then black men and women.
And I know were I live here in the south a few tia people own c5s and c6s.
@@lockonstratos7787 I live in Georgia, and I do see a lot of both races. However that doesn't matter. Your videos ate good👍🏼
i dailyd mine for a year cammed frc goat street car and decent on gas even with a cam 19mpg
I have recorded my c5 averaging 32.4mpg on a trip. You sure you were driving a c5? 😂
Yeah a 10k C5 isn't a thing lol, lowest priced okay ones I've seen are at least 15
Exactly I saw one that's 6 grand but was badly taken care of. See many starting at 18 grand now
No engine is 100% indestructible (minus a Toyota). The LS is one of the most reliable engine platforms around. U can put hundreds of thousands of miles on them. All motors require maintenance
Great vid love the grind but u already know what I’m going to say, u got to do the 7th gen Honda Accord mainly the v6 I’m begging you
YESsssssss!!!! that would be great!!!
@@midnite1235 haha alright alright
@@markroden c6 next my uncle has a c5 zo6 he has daily driven it for 6 years 700 hp
Nah nah the 2.0T accord
@@doublelifehernandez8120
That is a good one.also!!!
So is it worst than daily driving a 5.7 challenger?
ahh, damn, i want one as a first car to daily drive in a snowy area 😭
Still workin on convincing my dad to let me get one of these beauties! lol
Lmao just keep pushing
No I agree with your dad.
If your have to convince your dad
Your clearly not ready especially for a manual.
If you don't know how to properly drive it's a no no
@@rollinthunder8671 Bro I drive a 2000 tacoma. Manual. I can drive. bug off :D
@@mpmd6.9 a yacht and speed boat are similar but not the same
@@rollinthunder8671 haha well why don't you leave your gatekeeping at the door - this is a mark roden comments section :D
Buddy I understand why I shouldn't get this car and I'm honestly not seriously considering getting it. Also - what do you expect me to get 4 different levels of powerful cars to prepare me for a c5? lol I don't have the money to buy a bunch of stuff - I'd rather buy one thing, take great care of it, and let it last forever.
I’ve owned 8 Corvettes the C5 Z06 is probably the best performance for the money out there right now closely followed by a C6 Z06. And I been daily driving my C5 Z06 with no problems. Buddy you have no idea what your talking about. Go back to bussing tables.
Makes me feel all tingly inside
When did TypicalGamer start making car videos?
Word
Word
gas millage is amazing?
The C5 gets pretty decent gas mileage tbh. 18-19 mpg isn't that bad for a 350 hp 5.7 L V8
the curb weight of 3100lbs on the z06s
DO NOT get bad gas mileage! high 20s is good 30 with 6 speed
1000% ignoring you I’m buying 1 to daily
Driving a Z or an 86 is easy in the winter as long as you have winter tires
If you dont hane winters your silly
I disagree with you about the engine not being reliable.
"Do not do that".
"Just don't do it".
So um
maybe I don't buy one? Ughhh marky stop making senseeeee
Haha as a first car it might be tuff man
@@markroden Yeah man.. my tacoma's not really much to prepare me for a vette and I mean you're right about it not being a good daily. also don't have room (or the money) to keep the tacoma as well so maybe I'll look elsewhere. would love a 370z... I'll keep dreaming :D
Buy one hes wrong on every count except the part were he said buy one, that he got right.
Can you do the CRX?
Earlyyyyy boissssss
What? Bad gas mileage? These get almost 30 mpg on the hwy...what the frick do mean? It's hands down the junkiest car to come out of GM, but the grin factor never ceases.
🔥🔥🔥
Much love
Gimme one of these on a c6 boy
Oh damn ok
the pros and cons of a c6 are the same except it makes a little more power and doesn't have pop up headlights lol
Do 1gen porsche boxter
Good choice
bro under 10K lolllll
if u want 200K miles maybe
They are just hard to find like you said
@@markroden yeah. Just saw a 130K one for 9500 today too lol so i'm really eatin my words now lol
I totally disagree I think that convertible is beautiful
Just got home
Still counts
can you do the 5th Gen Honda prelude please?
Good idea
Under 10k?!? HA. These cars are exploding in popularity because we are looking at 20k to comfortably find even a base model.
I'm 12 months away from owning one but I've been religiously searching lol. Now and then some deals come up under 20k.
I worry 30k will be the normal in a year. I sure hope not, but If you jump online and watch them for awhile...yeah it's heading that way.
Where are we finding these under 10k
The junk yard. 10k won’t buy a decent condition base c5. Low mileage 20-30 thousand miles are around 22k here in the northeast metro area
Can you do one on the 7th gen toyota celica?
Not a bad choice
or the 6th gen, personably I favor it over the 7th
DO NISSAN 240sx
I know I need to do those lol
Oil pressure issues
Z28 camero ls1
You should do one on the new bronco
Ouu good choice
Do the g37 next
Already did the g37!
He’s an idiot. Never even been in one. I’m done. I love mine
Lol my uncle has one that he lets me drive, most people that own them agree with me, so I do not care about your opinion billy
