  • We use slow motion onboard footage to talk through the tack. We cover ideal equipment and then look at three tack examples in detail, I also use two different types of wing and talk about some differences in how they tack.
    Equipment used:
    Swift Foiling 80L NG board
Axis HPS 1050 and HPS 930 front foils
    Axis 350 progressive stabiliser

    Strike V3 5m Wing

As a beginner, I've been watching and enjoying all kind of instructional videos. This slow-mo high quality video with second by second description is extremely helpful for visualization. Please make more video!

thanks for the positive feedback, we will be doing more, I just wanted to see how this type of format went down before committing to doing more of it

Really good, I will definitely come back here when I have managed to get some consistent flight time. Right now this manoeuvre feels like a million miles away!

Very high quality content. How about making a video for the jibe? Thanks

jibe tutorial will be coming, odd as it may seem but it's actually harder to do the jibe tutorial than the tack because for the tack the target audience already have toe side, foiling and wing manipulation pretty sorted where as for the jibe you have to cover a fair bit more of the basics.

Been practicing this one for a few days now and making progress. But only managed to ride out on foil once. I'm now at the stage where I make the full turn and reposition the wing but don't manage to keep flying - touch down just as I position the nose of the board in the downwind direction again... Not quite sure what I'm doing wrong - on a 1280 phantom so maybe need something with a bit more glide/speed to make it through all the way?

this is normal when learning - your first tacks will drop off foil and it's usually because as you go through the tack you are climbing and this is killing speed. It could also be that it's taking too long as when you first learn these you tend to be a bit slow getting it all done and getting the power back on. I would concentrate on the front foot and making sure you are keeping pressure on through the tack, especially if when you drop down it's like you drop from really high rather than you are coming round and you are just touching down gently because you ran out of speed. Tacks are driven off the front foot, so if you are getting too much back foot pressure in there or your wing front hand is right above your head rather than out in front of you then your weight will be too far back and it will cause a foil climb and stall.

Amazing editing and i think you're local to the solent?! I want to get into wingfoiling next year when money allows. Know any good sources of second hand equipment in the UK? 😅

yes I sail in the Solent - usually from Meon Shore near HillHead. I usually use facebook groups for second hand gear, just have to be careful of scammers as per usual.
