I didn't know that that seaweed is edible. I hope the government helps local people to educate, study and cultivate them. Like d2 south korea small country but never stops to recreate and develop. Philippines has lot's of potential to export products from fruits to rice. Kulang talaga ng support galing sa government umpisa sa edukasyon. Salamat sa FEATER for making this video. Ang galing po ng production nyo. Keep it up.

The problem is that this type of seeweed can only grow on those conditions, and cultivating it like other types of seaweeds isn't possible. Anyway Burgos is known for this type of seaweed and believe it or not, the local government had already done its job in educating all gamet gatherers and all tourists wanting to taste this seaweed. As a matter of fact we even have Gamet festival in Burgos commemorating this black gold and was featured before in lots of articles even abroad.

FEATR needs to be a mainstay youtube channel for all FILIPINO diaspora. Just watching FEATR is enough to make the Filipino Diaspora feel connected to their Filipino Heritage. Thank you for this, my Lola always talks about her life in Ilocos before she was wisked away by my grandfather, this might be something I can buy for her to remember her youth in Ilocos.

This reminds of the "percebe" or gooseneck barnacles from Spain, one of the most expensive seafood in the world. They both are prized ingredients and people are risking lives to harvest it from the heavy crashing waves! Amazing to think that we also have our own version here. Thank you so much for this FEATR! ♥

As someone who grew up in Ilocos Norte, we love eating this when I was younger. But it’s seasonal, not always available and expensive. That’s why when Nori weeds became popular, and that time I was studying in Manila, I always buy them because it reminds me of gamet.

This was always a staple, especially when we had relatives coming from Ilocos Norte to bring in these fresh seaweeds. And yes, this is exactly how we eat our gamet; with fresh tomatoes, onions and sukang iloko or calamansi juice. Other seaweed salads we Ilocanos eat are pukpuklo and ararosep. The last time I ate this was when I last visited the Philippines... at a picnic in Saud Beach in Pagudpud.. I miss Ilocano food so much 'coz we always eat our seaweeds and veggies fresh.

I wonder if it could be farmed. It's closely related to the Japanese nori, which _is_ farmed. DOST should look into this, especially since the Philippines is already the birthplace of tropical seaweed farming (for lato, guso, and carrageenan/gulaman seaweeds). It would drop the prices of course, but at least people won't be dying for it.
